Neither of these were surprises by any means but both had Michigan offers and both would have probably considered the Wolverines if RR's record was better the last two years.
Michigan running back Justice Hayes picked Notre Dame today. If Michigan puts together a winning record in 2010 look for Mr. Hayes to re-consider the Wolverines.
One of the top linebackers in the country from Ohio, Trey DePreist picked Alabama over Ohio State today. Trey grew up a Michigan fan in Ohio but never visited Ann Arbor during his recruitment and will head South and play for Nick Sabin. This is another example of a highly ranked player from Ohio that passed on the Buckeyes for another program. (the other two are from the 2010 class - 5 star LB Jordan Hicks and the late 4 star OL Matt James who passed away tragically during Spring Break after falling from a balcony, he signed with ND).
On the good news front: Brandon Graham signed his rookie contract with the Eagles!

Non-Wolverine Commitment News and BG's Press Conference!
Michigan Friday: Welcomes Kellen Jones to the Wolverines
Michigan got it's 9th verbal to the 2011 class yesterday with the commitment of Texas linebacker Kellen Jones. Kellen made his first visit to Ann Arbor yesterday and that's all it took for a lifetime fan of the Wolverines to make a commitment.
Kellen is a four star LB on Scouts and 3 Stars on ESPN and Rivals. He is 6'1 and 210 pounds and a middle or inside LB in high school. With some Barwis time, Michigan would love for him to stay in the middle or show his speed on the edge. His offer list is pretty impressive which includes: Arizona, Boise State, Colorado, Illinois, Houston, Kansas and KState, Stanford, Texas AM, and many more.
As you know, I am very serious about concussions and Kellen did receive a concussion during his sophomore year but played his junior year with out any problems. Let's hope those issues are behind him.
Mgoblog does a great write up on Mr. Jones and his recruitment. Here are some quotes from Kellen after he committed:
"Michigan is a family, and just seeing that really reinforced everything for me. It was really everything I was looking for. I prayed about my decision, and God told me Michigan was where I was supposed to be. I wanted to take this visit to clarify that, and it did."
"We were in Coach Rodriguez' office, and my family was in there with me. I told Coach that I was committing, and my whole family broke into the Michigan fight song. My Dad, Uncle, me, everybody was singing the fight song. Coach Rodriguez laughed and said he had never seen that before. He was shocked."

Michigan Thursday: Shawn Conway Troubles
As many of you know, Shawn Conway was an early WR commit to Michigan for the 2011 class. The book on Shawn is that he is a raw athlete but needs to work on fine tuning his wide receiver skills like route running. Shawn is listed as a 3 star prospect on both recruiting services.
Last night, Mgoblog reported that Shawn got into a bit of trouble during his junior year of high school. It seems he was caught taking $50 from a locker of another student. Nothing official has come out from the school due to privacy rules and discipline was taken care of by the Principal.
This is not the only potential bad news for Shawn. It seems Shawn's high school coach is now his official guardian and that coach doesn't live within the school districts borders. Which means Shawn could miss his entire senior year on the field. Shawn has had a difficult life with his parents divorcing when he was very young and his mother going to prison when he was 10. His coach was recently awarded guardianship after he spent the last two years living with his Aunt. You would hope that Shawn would be given a waiver to play football while living out of the district but the above "trouble" could affect that decision.
So take this news with a grain of salt and know that we all make mistakes when were 17. We also need to take into account his lack of role models or a consistent presence of a parent. I personally hope Shawn makes the right decisions, comes to Michigan, gets his degree and plays well on the football field. Good Luck Shawn! Put the past behind you and make the right decisions to get you to Ann Arbor in the fall.
- Sam Webb and others agree that Justice Hayes is heading to ND to play next year.
- Shawn Crable got released by the Patriots yesterday. He just couldn't stay healthy.
- Monday is the Big Ten Media Day in Chicago and RR will do his press conference at 11:45 EST.
- Texas and Minnesota home and home series in the future has been cancelled due to a disagreement over video rights.

ESPNU Recruiting = Fail
Tonight's GridIron Kings was a great showcase for kids from Texas and Florida. Dee Hart played well, showing great speed and athleticism. Dee impressed me with his hands by catching the ball down field and showing his speed to separate himself from defenders. He even entertained the crowd by doing a back flip after a touchdown catch. I can see why Michigan is all over this young man. He looks like a great fit in RR's spread in the backfield or in the slot for the Maize and Blue. Dee was also named to the all performance team.
The problem with the show tonight is the clear mistake ESPNU made is showing Dee's list of schools that he is considering. They listed Alabama, Colorado State, Notre Dame, Florida State, and Miami as schools he is considering. I'm sure ESPN's Recruiting guy Tom Luginbill knows that Dee recently mentioned Michigan as his leader, so that list doesn't make any sense. Alabama is really only the accurate school on the list.
The only reason I can imagine that they didn't list Michigan was due to Desmond Howard being in the booth and doing color for the showcase on ESPNU. Of course, Desmond wouldn't be able to recruit Dee or any other player at the GridIron Kings Showcase to Michigan.
Wolverine Wednesday: Recruiting Blitz Hits TV
This should be an interesting showcase of Dee's talent but I also want you to keep an eye on two prospects that continue to be on Michigan's radar even after they have verballed to Florida State and Alabama. The two kids to keep an eye on are Hasean Clinton-Dix and Karlos Williams. Many of you that have followed Hart's recruitment knows that Clinton-Dix is Dee's teammate at Orlando's Dr. Phillips and Karlos Williams plays for Davenport, Florida. These two are maybe the best two Safeties in the country. Both happen to be friends with Dee of course and current Wolverine Ricardo Miller. Both are contemplating a visit up to Ann Arbor during the season to catch a game at the Big House. So you can look at Michigan chances two ways: 1) these guys are already committed but still want to take visits for a free trip and to catch a game at a historic stadium or 2) they really want to play together and Michigan gives them the best opportunity. Getting kids on campus is the #1 key in recruiting, if they "drink the kool-aide" you never know what could happen.
Tonight is a rare opportunity to catch these three high school super stars in action! The game is a blow out so just focus on the talent on the field.
- How many offensive lineman can the 2011 boat hold? Michigan has two committed already Jake Fisher and Jack Miller. They have an interested group that includes: Anthony Zettel, Nick Martin, Ray Ball, Jordan Walsh, Cyrus Hobbi, Chris Bryant, and Tony Posada (who is expected to announce next week). I expect Michigan to take 5-6 O-lineman this year. So the race to commit is on. We also expect good news from Posada next week. Which would leave 3 more spots max.
- Detroit Linebacker Ed Davis has moved up his announcement date to August 4th. Best guess: Iowa
- WR Valdez Showers might also join Davis announcing on 8/4 which is the Sound Mind and Sound Body media day and the official kick off to Michigan's high school's 2010 season. Showers offer list looks like: Michigan, MSU, Florida, Auburn, Wisconsin and Iowa. This is a tough call at this point. Best guess is Michigan or Florida. (freep warning)
- Running back Justice Hayes is planning to announce this Friday. Best guess: ND
- Trey DePriest, one of the top LB's in the country, who grew up a Michigan fan, will announce his decision this Friday as well. He is down to his home state Ohio State Buckeyes or Alabama Crimson Tide. He never made it up to Ann Arbor for a visit. So he is picking Michigan's #1 rival or a guy that coached Michigan's #2 rival and a school Rich Rod turned down a number of years ago. Recruiting is a strange game sometimes. Best guess: Roll Tide

Concussions are No Longer Footballs Dirty Little Secret
If you follow this blog regularly, you know that I'm very serious about concussions in football. My interest in this topic goes back to players like Troy Aikman and even the former Michigan running back Sam McGuffie. Then last season, my nephew got one playing high school football. This is not only becoming a serious issue in football it's now personal for me.
The recognition behind concussions has come a long way. A few years ago the NFL didn't even acknowledge the short or long term effects of concussions, we all remember players getting one on Sunday and being right back playing the next week. Or having your "bell rung" and being told by a coach to get back in there!
Now the NFL under Roger Goodell is starting to take concussions head on (sorry that is a bad pun). The NFL will not start providing posters in each NFL locker rooms talking about the serious nature of concussions. This from the NYT: The National Football League is producing a poster that bluntly alerts its players to the long-term effects of concussions, using words like “depression” and “early onset of dementia” that those close to the issue described as both staggering and overdue.
The poster, soon to be hung in locker rooms leaguewide, becomes by far the N.F.L.’s most definitive statement on the cognitive risks of football, which it had discredited for most of the past several years as academic studies and reports of deceased players’ brain damage mounted.
“That poster is shocking,” said Domonique Foxworth, a cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens. “It gives people facts before they take risks. But it’s not exactly a new revelation.”
I applaud The NFL taking a pro-active stance against the serious nature of concussions and the potential long term effects. But the job isn't done, what current research is starting to show is that the number of collisions players have on a daily basis (in practice and during games) could have the same long term negative effects. The most recent example of that is the late Cincinnati Bengals WR Chris Henry who was found to be suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) which is an early onset of dementia or also know as "punch drunk syndrome" which is found in many boxers. Chris was never diagnosed or missed any games due to a concussion. So Chris situation could mean two things: 1) Chris did have a number of concussions and was never properly diagnosed or 2) the regular hits he took in high school, college and in the NFL caused him to have CTE.
In my opinion, #2 above is the biggest risk to the NFL. If you tell parents that if your child continues playing football could have the brain of 90 year old when he is 40, how many kids do you think will be playing youth football? Not many.
Scary isn't it?
What are some of the solutions? Folks talk about safer helmets, which could work but could also have a negative effect. If players believe their helmets are safer they might continue tackling by leading with their helmets. I think the best way to reduce concussions is go back to the fundamentals of tackling and not leading with your helmet. I realize we live in Sports Center world and highlights are what players are after but if this trend continues it might seriously effect the game or more importantly a players long term health. Throwing a player out for leading with the helmet and even a suspension might help reduce this form of tackling.
Either way, recognition is the first step and I see the NFL doing that. So today is a positive step in the right direction. NYT: Chris Nowinski, (who you might remember from the WWF & his college career at Harvard) a co-director of the Sports Legacy Institute and an advocate for youth concussion awareness, said he was relieved to learn about the new language. “The old pamphlet that said ‘no evidence of any long-term effects,’ it slowed down progress — it helped create a latency environment when the evidence showed great urgency for change,” he said. “There’s a greater need for culture change on the lower levels. When coaches and people around the games don’t have all the information, simple documents and simple messages are the most important.”

Michigan Monday: Dee Hart Lights Up the Grid Iron Kings 7 on 7
As we know, one of Michigan's top targets in the 2011 class is Orlando's Dee Hart. Dee was up in Ann Arbor a couple of weekends ago and has now given the "Maize and Blue" his leader status. Michigan has pulled ahead by "I would say Michigan is 75 percent," Hart said. Leaving the possibility that he might commit to Alabama at 25 percent. "I like the area at Michigan," Hart said. "You know I'm from Florida, so I've never really had all four seasons and I like that. I like the fans. They have a great fan base up there. They also have great programs up there, like their business program and that's what I want to go into is business management."
This weekend he played in Orlando's 7 on 7 tournament that will air on ESPNU on Wednesday at 7:00 PM EST and his team won the Championship game in a dominating performance. Hart, a small and compact running back who is ultraquick and explosive, was impressive in each game for the Southeast. He made a ton of big plays and some great catches.coo "It was a couple of great days," Hart said. "I think the key was that we, as a team, bonded early. I was just happy I got to contribute the way I did."
- CBS Sports podcast Q&A with Craig Roh.
- Local Oakland Press article on Michigan commit Shawn Conway.
- TomVH from Mgoblog gives us an update on the weekend visit of Chris Bryant. I didn't commit, I need to talk things over with my parents. I like it a lot, though. They really liked (it) too. It sounds like Chris might be on commitment watch after this weekends visit. Chris is another offensive lineman on Michigan's radar for 2011.
- Tony Posada and teammates are close to making a decision. Most likely in a week or two.

Michigan Friday: Stevie Brown in the NFL
Steve Brown took a lot of heat during his Michigan career at the Safety position. Last year, Steve played very well at Greg Robinson's Strong Side Linebacker. Steve basically, was able to play a LB role that allowed him to rush the QB and cover tight ends and running backs out of the backfield. If you get to re-watch some Michigan games on the Big Ten Network, you will see Stevie all over the field.
Steve worked that good year into getting drafted in the 7th round to the Oakland Raiders and now has signed an NFL contract. Congratulations Stevie! We hope you make the team.
- Former Wolverine Toney Clemons was named the pre-season Big 12 "Newcomer of the year". I wonder if wishes his friend David Cone was throwing to him at Colorado.
- There is another Boren in the 2012 recruiting class. I'm guessing Michigan will take a pass on this young man. On a side note, The State of Ohio is expected to have a a number of highly rated players in the class of 2012. Folks are talking about a number of players in the top 150 in 2012 and OSU will have a small class and might only have 12-15 scholarships to hand out, meaning Michigan and others could really "clean up" in Ohio in 2012.
- Sammy Watkins and Dallas Crawford are still options for Michigan's 2011 class. Sammy has been spending a lot of time at Clemson lately. It seems Sammy is down to Miami, Clemson, and Michigan. Getting both Sammy and Dallas on campus again for an official visit to Ann Arbor will be key in landing these two highly rated Florida athletes.
- DeAnthony Arnett is playing in the Orlando 7 on 7 this weekend. "I'm the cover boy," Arnett said. "We're doing a photo shoot, so I'm going to do both." .
- Jeremiah Bryson a 3 star RB from TN is starting to get some attention from the Michigan coaches: Bryson has eight offers and talked with an assistant from the University of Michigan this past week. Bryson, a 5-foot-8, 180-pound athlete. "It's fun to show up having mail for you."

Michigan Thursday: Is there Justice in Ann Arbor?
There was last weekend when highly rated Michigan running back Justice Hayes spent some time with Coach Fred Jackson on the campus of The University of Michigan. Justice has been rumored to be leaning towards Notre Dame due to the recruitment of Dee Hart and Michigan's losing record the last two years. Some insiders have even suspect that if Michigan had won more games the last two years that Justice would have already committed to the Maize and Blue.
So why the ND lean? I'm not sure, Brian Kelly likes to throw the ball way more then run the ball and Rich Rod's spread is more about running then passing. Either way, it seems we will know soon as Justice said he is expecting to announce his decision on July 30th.
Right now we have more questions then answers regarding his recruitment. Did Fred do enough selling to keep Justice in Ann Arbor? Is Mr. Hayes put off by the way Michigan is recruiting Dee Hart? Does Michigan want two running backs in this class? Did BK sell Justice on the ND running attack? Either way we will know a week from Friday.
- Take a behind the scenes tour of the Big House this fall.
- The Daily previews Michigan Special Teams.
- Did you ever wonder what former Michigan State and Detroit Lions head coach is up to? No, me either.
- LaMar Woodley is still giving back to his home town of Saginaw.
- This guy doesn't think much of Michigan's current QB or former Michigan verbal commit. Not sure I agree with his grades.

Wolverine Wednesday: NCAA is Shooting For Everyone
Right now, there isn't a major program in place that is safe from the NCAA. They are targeting anyone and everyone that might have made some mistakes. The dirty little secret in college football is agent activity and what did and didn't coaches and Universities know. The Reggie Bush case set the precedent and now the NCAA is looking at just about everyone. Florida, South and North Carolina, Alabama are just a few schools that the NCAA has on their radar. We don't know a lot of details yet, but in the Florida case one player could have taken $100K between the SEC Championship game and The Sugar Bowl last year. If this turns out to be accurate: Congratulations to the University of Cincinnati on not getting blown out by Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators last January.
Even Jim Harbaugh could be next for his Twitter activity regarding recruits. As you know, head coaches can't talk about recruits until they sign an LOI. Jim could be using some type of twitter "code" to break that rule.
If your not keeping score at home. Here is the following NCAA activity in the last couple of weeks:
- USC AD Out, replaced by Rhodes Scholar and NBC Notre Dame analyst Pat Haden. (On a side note, I'm not sure I have ever seen a person needed to get fired more then Mike Garrett who took a blind eye to just about everything). USC is also sending Reggie's Heisman Trophy back. These are clear signs that USC is trying to "clean up" for the appeal process. I wonder if Pat Haden is a Lane Kiffin supporter? Of course we know that Lane was at USC when all the trouble was happening.
- North and South Carolina investigations
- Florida and it's $100K case
- Alabama player at an agents party.
How does that miss filing of paperwork/forms and few minutes of stretching look now? Not very serious if you ask me. Yes, Michigan made some mistakes but the above crimes seem to be much more serious. I'm guessing next month Michigan - NCAA meeting will go as follows.
NCAA: I have seen all the paperwork on your internal investigation and your self imposed penalties. You have done some nice work here.
David Brandon: Thank You.
NCAA: We agree with your self imposed sanctions and even feel they are a little over the top. But if you think that's what you deserve. Let's go with that.
David Brandon: OK.
NCAA: Were really busy with the SEC and Agent stuff right now, so can we wrap this up?
David Brandon: Sure.
NCAA: Done, we officially accept your self imposed sanctions. Want to get a Starbucks?
David Brandon: Sure, how about a pizza too?
-------
Now on to some News and Notes:
- On a sad note it looks like Darryl Stonum hasn't been living up to his DUI probation and spent a couple of days in jail last month. I'm guessing he will be spending a bunch of time running during fall practice and even miss the UConn game. (caution Freep link)
- Want some PC Wallpaper of Michigan's Schedule? Here is some great work. Enjoy them.
- I think we are all worried on how Michigan will start the season against a good UConn team. This mogblog contributor, did some research on how the Huskies did last year against spread teams. The big thing that "popped" out to me was that UConn gave up 711 total yards to Cincinnati last year. I am now a "little less" worried if our defense can make some stops.
- It seems Michigan is making sure guys are qualified before they get offered. One example is 3 star Muskegon DE Damon Knox. He has been told by the Michigan coaches that if he gets his work done in the classroom there will be a spot for him at Michigan. Currently, Damon has one written offer from Ball State. Damon spent some time at Michigan's camp this summer and impressed the Wolverine coaches. He is 6'5 265 and known for his Bull Rush.

Michigan Tuesday: Recruiting Quick Bites
Michigan currently has 8 spots filled for the 2011 recruiting class and most expect just 10 more spots to be open in this class max. So who is left and what are their time tables to decide?
- Dee Hart is expected back to Ann Arbor for his official visit for the UConn game. Some expect that a decision may come right after this game.
- Anthony Zettel is still taking visits and it looks like will make a decision during the football season. Many insiders believe Michigan is still in the leader position for AZ.
- Detroit Linebacker Ed Davis said he will announce his decision the day before his first football game this year. The date is August 27th and it seems its between Michigan, Iowa, and MSU.
- Michigan running back Justice Hayes had somewhat of a surprise visit this past weekend to Ann Arbor. He spent a lot of time with running backs coach Fred Jackson. The rumor mill has Justice top two as Notre Dame and Michigan. Did the visit to Ann Arbor this weekend put Michigan in the #1 spot? I guess we will see.
- Michigan WR DeAnthony Arnett is now favoring the USC Trojans.
- Tony Posada an offensive lineman from Tampa is most likely announcing soon. Florida hasn't offered yet but if they do he might be a Gator. If he doesn't get that offer most believe he will be a Wolverine.
- Kellen Jones a MLB from Texas will be visiting the Wolverines a week from Thursday (7/29). Kellen is a Michigan fan and could commit if he has a good visit.
- Chris Bryant (OL from Chicago), Darian Cooper (DT from Maryland), and Johnathan Aiken (CB from Florida) are all planning Michigan visits in the next couple of months.
- The Big Ten Kickoff Meeting will be held in Chicago on August 3rd and Stephen Schilling, Mark Moundros and Troy Woolfolk will be representing the Wolverines.
- Michigan currently has 50/1 odds to win the National Championship this year. 12/1 for a Big Ten Championship. I have also heard that Michigan will be favored by 3 points for the UConn game.

Jake MICHIGAN!
Many who follow Michigan recruiting wondered when the offensive line recruiting was going to start to heat up. Last night Michigan started to burn a few logs with the commitment of 6'7 270 pound Jake Fisher from Traverse City, Michigan.
Jake has been a shooting up the ranking on Scouts this summer due to his performances at camps in the Great Lakes State and now comes in as a 4 star prospect and one of the top players in the State. Scout rates him #6 in the State (and still climbing) and Rivals has him #18 in the State (will be higher when they re-rank). The reason for his lack of big offers and why Rivals still has him at 3 stars is because he plays tight end in high school and grew 3 inches this past year. He is projected to play offensive tackle at Michigan with that big frame. So being a tight end in high school and projecting to play tackle in college, gives recruiting services "fits" since they can't really project him in a position that he is not currently playing.
Michigan just offered recently and Jake jumped at it. His offer list had mostly MAC schools before Cincinnati, Michigan and MSU jumped on the band wagon.
Jake is full of upside as he learns his position in college. He is guaranteed a redshirt, since he will continue to play tight end this fall in high school. We know he is an athlete if he is playing tight end right now, which fits Michigan's spread attack and should find a home behind "soon to be a star" Taylor Lewan.
Jake is Michigan's 8th commitment to the 2011 class and second offensive lineman along with center prospect Jack Miller. With two offensive lineman in the fold now, Michigan will still look to add 3-4 more. This is a really good pick up for Michigan with a kid that many has said to have a "mean streak". He is obviously a hard worker and when Barwis gets his hands on him, look out!
Here is Jake' video as a TE and DE:

Michigan Friday: Wolverines Tough Non-Conference Schedule
The Sporting News ranked Michigan's 2011 non-conference schedule the hardest in the Big Ten. The reason? They play two BCS Schools UConn and Notre Dame. Sure there is a sighting of USC, Alabama, Miami, and the Arizona schools, but there are also Austin Peay, Towson, Arkansas State, South Dakota, every directional school in Illinois, and Northern Colorado. I know Michigan has had it's share of mail in games, but this is somewhat embarrassing for the Big Ten in my opinion. I didn't even know some of these schools played football.
On a side note, I wasn't aware that Sam McGuffie was going to play against Big Ten school this year. Northwestern plays at Rice.
1. Michigan: Connecticut, at Notre Dame, Massachusetts, Bowling Green
2. Iowa: Eastern Illinois, Iowa State, at Arizona, Ball State
3. Ohio State: Marshall, Miami (Fla.), Ohio, Eastern Michigan
4. Wisconsin: at UNLV, San Jose State, Arizona State, Austin Peay
5. Minnesota: at Middle Tennessee, South Dakota, USC, Northern Illinois
6. Penn State: Youngstown State, at Alabama, Kent State, Temple
7. Purdue: at Notre Dame, Western Illinois, Ball State, Toledo
8. Michigan State: Western Michigan, vs. Florida Atlantic, Notre Dame, Northern Colorado
9. Illinois: vs. Missouri, Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois, at Fresno State
10. Northwestern: at Vanderbilt, Illinois State, at Rice, Central Michigan
11. Indiana: Towson, at Western Kentucky, Akron, Arkansas State
- Lambeau Field says don't forget about us for the Big Ten championship game. I'm guessing fans paying high dollar for thier tickets aren't going to want to sit outside in early December.
- The Michigan Daily previews the 2011 Michigan Linebackers. IMO, this unit has the biggest upside on defensive and really needs to step up if Michigan is going to win some ball games. The DB's and defensive line are going to be young and going to make mistakes. The linebackers core needs to play like seniors. If Jonas Mouton and Obi Ezeh don't make 1st or 2nd team All Big Ten then I think they have had a poor year and Michigan has given up a ton of points.
- As we know, one of Michigan's top prospects for the 2011 class is currently on campus: Dee Hart. I consider Dee, Kris Frost and Anthony Zettel, the top 3 prospects on Michigan's board for 2011.

Michigan Thursday Late Night Update
New Big House Video (HT: Mgoblog)
Side Note: Dee Hart is in Ann Arbor.
Michigan Thursday: Wolverine Recruiting Blitz
As you know, Michigan hosted 3 four star prospects on the offensive line this week. Here is a quick update on their visit and whats next for these young man.
Jordan Walsh: On his trip to Ann Arbor this week: "It went well," said Walsh of his one-on-one time with Michigan's head coach. "We talked a lot about (different) stuff, and not always about football. He told me about the new additions to the Big House, the town, and everything. I like him. I guess you could say he's different from how he is portrayed. He's a really cool, laid-back person. He's always smiling, and the way he talks about things, you kind of just feel good talking to him."
"I like Coach (Greg) Frey," Walsh said of Michigan's offensive line coach. "He's a funny guy. He's real cool, but he'll get on you if you mess up and he'll also teach you how to get better. We both think alike."
Don't forget about Jordan's mom who loves Michigan and cried when Jordan got the Michigan offer: "To be totally honest, I love Michigan," said the youngster's mother, Natalie. "I think their academic services and everything that they have to offer there academically has been the best we've seen yet."
"My husband and I are both kind of sports fanatics, and I think we kind of fell in love with Michigan when the Fab Five started," Mrs. Walsh admitted. "He'll probably kill me for telling you this, but ever since he could talk, I'd always say, 'Jordan where are you going to school?' And he would say, 'I'm going to the University of Michigan.' I always knew that Michigan was known for their academics, and their sports teams were always fantastic when I was growing up. That is how I became a fan of Michigan."
I like Michigan's chances with Jordan. He currently doesn't have a timeline for a decision or even a top 5 but having Mom on your side is a big plus for the Wolverines!
Jake Fisher: As we know visited Ann Arbor and East Lansing this week. He is now prepared to announce his decision in the next few days. Many insiders expect this to be good news for the Wolverines.
Cyrus Hobbi: We know Cyrus had a nice visit to Ann Arbor this week but his timeline is much longer and I expect he wants to take some official visits and make a decision later this Fall or Winter.
Two side notes for this class. Some people that follow Big Ten recruiting might wonder why Michigan has 7 verbals so far and someone like Indiana has 20? Michigan has less then 20 scholarships available this year (probably around 18) and needs to be pretty selective on who they offer. Ohio State for example will have a big class this year (already 17 commits) and a very small one next year (less then 15 we are hearing). If your wondering Penn State only has 3 commits so far for 2011.
- Mickey Johnson one of the best defensive tackles in the country has Michigan in his top 5 with UCLA, Nebraska, LSU, and Tennessee. Right now he has UCLA as his leader. Mickey plans to take 4 official visits which hopefully means he will visit Ann Arbor sometime this late summer or for a game this fall.
- DB Wayne Lyons (6-1, 195) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Has a shorten list of 14 schools that include Michigan, USC Gamecocks, Auburn, Florida, FSU, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Mississippi, Stanford, Vanderbilt, UCLA and USF.
- Sammy Watkins, WR out of Florida now has Miami and Clemson as his top two schools. It's been awhile since he visited for the Spring Game and the Michigan coaches need to get him back on campus for an official visit this fall.
- DL Deion Barnes (6-4, 230) of Philadelphia has a Michigan offer but right now does not have a list of favorites.

Wolverine Wednesday: Opens the Big House to All Comers
Today is the day the public can take a tour of the new Big House. I hope they draw my name for the free luxury box for the year (just kidding they are not holding that contest). Take the tour today and see if you agree with the way Bill Martin spent the 226 Million. From last years games and the photos I have seen, I think they did a very nice job. The folks that decide to take the tour today will get the first look at Michigan's new Field Turf. "For FieldTurf to be on the hallowed ground of Michigan Stadium is an honor for our company, and it is a responsibility that we take very seriously. We pledge to continue to provide the very finest and safest turf available in the world today."
The Big House is the biggest once again. The offical capcity is up to 109,901 and the largest college or pro football stadium.
- Fall out from the NCAA investigation? Brad Labadie, director of Michigan football operations, who was involved in the Countable Athletically-Related Activity (CARA) forms that were mishandled and a focus of the NCAA investigation, has resigned. Brad has taken a job a Blue Cross and Blue Shield. David Brandon: "I absolutely don't think people should" think his departure has anything to do with the NCAA investigation. Speaking for myself; If I was in Brad's situation, I might find a new job as well.
- Drew Henson remembers his former Boss and the late George Steinbrenner. (Freep Link) As a baseball fan, I always thought it was interesting on how George always put winning first and built his Yankee empire. As a Michigan fan, I wasn't real happy that he took maybe the most talented (skill wise) QB Michigan has ever seen a year to early.

Lloyd Carr Retires from U of M
Some of you maybe confused with this but Lloyd has held an assistant AD job for the past two years and now if officially retiring from U of M. The job was basically just a title and a way for Michigan to pay him the final two years of his contract. Now on to the press release:
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- After 30 years of distinguished service to the University of Michigan, associate athletic director and former U-M head football head coach Lloyd Carr will officially retire from the athletic department on Sept. 1.
"I am thankful for the wonderful opportunity to assist two great coaches here in Bo Schembechler and Gary Moeller and I will always appreciate Joe Roberson's decision to name me the head coach in 1995," said Carr. "I am also appreciative for those I worked with and for all the great friendships I have developed.
"Most of all, I am thankful for the young men I coached and for all the memories I have from my time at Michigan."
Carr's accomplishments off the field can be measured by his success as a fundraiser for many charitable causes, including his role as co-chair for the campaign to build a new C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital, which will open in the fall of 2011. He will remain active in fundraising and keep his position as co-chair for the fundraising effort for the hospitals. He has also aided both the athletic department and the university as a highly sought-after speaker, serving on special committees, and providing helpful advice and mentoring to coaches and staff.
"Lloyd Carr's legacy is an impressive and important part of Michigan's rich history and tradition of excellence in football," said U-M President Mary Sue Coleman. "He has served the university as well through his advocacy and passion for a number of philanthropic causes. We are grateful for his long and successful service and wish him well in retirement."
"I have known Lloyd since he came to Michigan as an assistant coach," said Dave Brandon, U-M Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "Coach Carr is a man of integrity. I admire and appreciate his love for all of our student-athletes and his many contributions to not only our university, but his work on behalf of numerous charitable causes throughout the state of Michigan."
Carr is retiring after two-and-one-half years as an associate athletic director, but his accomplishments as U-M's 17th head football coach will be an enduring memory.
Following the 2008 Capital One Bowl, Carr retired as U-M football coach with an overall record of 122-40 (81-23 Big Ten), a national championship and five Big Ten Conference titles. He is one of only three U-M coaches to win more than 100 games on the gridiron, an achievement only surpassed by Bo Schembechler and Fielding H. Yost. He is the only coach to have taken Michigan teams to a bowl game in each year he served as head coach, and he is only the fifth head football coach to lead Michigan to a national title (1997).
Carr became just the second Big Ten coach to post an undefeated regular-season record in only his third year of head coaching. He also wrote himself into the NCAA record books, becoming the seventh coach in NCAA history to have reached 29 wins in only three seasons of coaching.
Carr has also been involved in the university, community and coaching fraternity. He has been active in support of women's athletics, endowing a women's athletics scholarship that is presented annually to a U-M female student-athlete. He initiated the Women's Football Academy and U-M Men's Fantasy Football Experience, which donate all proceeds to the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center through the establishment of the Coach Carr Cancer Fund in 1998 in memory of his mother, Pauline, who died of breast cancer. The "Carr Wash for Kids" was an annual event benefiting Mott Children's Hospital, a cause he continues to support today. He also serves as spokesperson for Mentor Michigan to help recruit men and women to help children in need. He has been involved with local charities such as the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, Washtenaw Literacy and the United Way.
In the past, he also worked with Special Olympics, served on the NCAA Rules Committee and was a member of the American Football Coaches Association Board of Trustees. He annually hosts the Hall of Fame football camp in his hometown of Riverview, Mich.
Throughout his tenure, he was given the Philip Hart Public Service Award from the Michigan Women's Studies Association and the Dodge National Athletic Lifetime Achievement Award.
Carr is married to the former Laurie McCartney. They have six children: Melissa, Brett, Jason, Ryan, Emily and Jarrett. Jason was a quarterback at U-M and Emily lettered in volleyball. Carr also has 11 grandchildren: Tyler John McCartney, Brendan Massey McCartney, Drew Elizabeth Vigo, Austin Patrick McCartney, Colin Lloyd McCartney, Sydney Ann Vigo, Ethan Michael McCartney, Casey Carr Vigo, Noah Thomas McCartney, Curtis Jason (C.J.) Carr and Thomas Lloyd Carr, with another grandson expected in October.

Michigan Tuesday: Big Man Visit Day
Michigan is expecting 3 big offensive lineman to Ann Arbor today from the class of 2011.
#1: Jake Fisher from Traverse City. Jake has been lighting up camps and seen his stock raise to a 4 star player on Scouts. He is 6'7 and 250 pounds. It seems to be a battle between MSU and Michigan and he will be stopping in East Lansing on the drive down from TC. Jake is on "commit watch" and it would be great if he did it today while in Ann Arbor.
#2: Jordan Walsh is another 4 star prospect from Glen Ellyn, Illinois who comes in at 6'3 275 pounds. This is the prospect whose mother is a huge Michigan fan and cried when he got the U of M offer. I don't believe Jordan would commit today but if he loves the campus, coaches, and facilities...............you never know what could happen. Jordan is planning a decision after the football season.
#3: Cyrus Hobbi is one of the top offensive guards in the nation and will be driving through Ann Arbor on his way to NYC. Cyrus is from Scottsdale, AZ but doesn't really know Roh or Lewan. Having him on campus today hopefully will give Michigan a leg up in his recruitment. Cyrus is also planning a decision after the season.
I guess Rich Rod is back from vacation and working on the class of 2011. Dee Hart is still trying to make it to Ann Arbor this week after his strong performance at the Nike 7 on 7 last week. Thomas Rawls a 3 star RB from Flint Northern may also visit Ann Arbor this week. Thomas is another guy that is starting to rise in the rankings and currently does not have a Michigan offer.

Michigan Monday: Hart Speaks With His Actions Not His Words
I didn't mean for this blog to become Dee Hart Recruiting Central but the last few days it has. As we know, Demetrius Hart along with his teammates participated in Nike's 7 on 7 tournament this past week. ESPN had this to say: Four-star running back Demetrius Hart (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) did a lot of talking with his performance at the tournament making a number of highlight-reel catches. But when it came to talking about his recruitment, Hart had nothing to say.
Although he appears to be down to Auburn and Michigan, he didn't want to commit to those two schools.
"I wouldn't say those are the final two," Hart said. "Because I'm still open, I haven't committed yet."
So there are more schools out there in which Hart is interested?
"Not exactly," Hart said.
As we also know Dee Hart is expected to visit Ann Arbor again this week. Let's hope those plans don't fall through.
More on Hart from Rivals: There was a gasp on the Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips sidelines when after Demetrius Hart caught a pass and the announcer inadvertently said Hart, a 5-foot-8, 190-pound all-purpose back, was an Alabama commit.
Hart has the Crimson Tide in his top three along with Michigan and Auburn but he has not yet made a pledge. It was a rare lighthearted moment during the heated competition.
- Most recruiting insiders expected Michigan's next verbal commitment would come from a player on the offensive line, but now it just may come from the kitchen! As TomVH from Mgoblog reports Michigan has given Daren Kitchen a CB from Louisiana a verbal scholarship offer from Fred Jackson who recruits that state. He can't get a written offer until RR gets back from his vacation. When he gets "the paper" when might he commit? "I'll probably just commit right away, because that's the one I've been waiting for." Daren has offers from the likes of Nebraska, Stanford, Kansas and others.
- QB Marquise Williams picked UNC this weekend. Michigan pretty much was out of the running after Kevin Sousa committed but Marquise did have Michigan in his final group.

Michigan Friday: Dee Day Next Week?
As it stands right now it looks like Demetrius Hart will take another un-official visit to Ann Arbor next week. His dad won't be with him but he will be with his current QB a 2012 prospect. Insiders don't expect Dee Hart to publicly commit to the Wolverines next week (because his dad won't be on the visit) but another trip to A2 can only been seen as a positive sign.
- One sure sign on where your mom wants you to attend college is (in bold below): Here is an interview with TomVH from Mgoblog and Offensive Guard prospect Jordan Walsh: JORDAN: Well, my mom always liked Michigan. She was a big Michigan football fan, and she told me when I was younger that I should go to Michigan. When we went there, I really liked it. She loved the junior day visit, too. When Coach Rodriguez offered me, she started crying. I guess my mom saying that all those years really got me interested initially. She's a fan of everybody now, though. She wants me to make my own decision, so she's a fan of everybody. I like Michigan's chances of landing Mr. Walsh. I would say that is a good sign.
- Michigan vs USC in the Chick-fil-a Kickoff Game? This report says Michigan and USC are under consideration (along with other teams) to play in this game in 3 years.

Michigan Thursday: The Phone Keeps Ringing for Dee Hart
ESPN did an article today on Orlando's Dr. Phillips players. You may recognize some of the names like Demetrius Hart and Michigan Freshman Ricardo Miller. This article gives us some insight into Demetrius recruitment and how many teams are after him. "It can be a little crazy," Hart added. "The phone never stops ringing."
Current teammate and Alabama verbal Clinton Dix is calling Dee everyday and Ricardo is doing his best to recruit the young man to Ann Arbor as well: "Yeah Ricardo is always calling me up and talking up the Wolverines," Hart said. "It's all in good fun. Everyone knows it's my decision and they respect that. We are just a big family at Phillips and we want to support each other."
What's the next for Dee and another Dr. Phillips prospect LaQuentin Smith? He is planning to take in the Michigan-UConn game at the beginning of the season with teammate LaQuentin Smith, and both might also go to Ann Arbor for the Michigan-Iowa contest. Smith, a linebacker/safety product who has more than a dozen offers himself, might have tipped the hand of both players.
"You know we've always wanted to play together," Smith said. "I mean if we get up to Michigan and everything is going well and we feel comfortable … you never know."
I like the sound of that!
- Sam Webb gives us a Detroit News update on the State of Michigan prospects. Most of the article focuses on Jake Fisher. Here is Scout's analysis on the young man that just got his 4th star and continues to move up the rankings: "He is a high-school tight end growing into a tackle," Scout.com midwest regional analyst Allen Trieu said. "He is already strong, considering he still has room to fill out, and he uses that strength to drive and finish defenders. He sets up with a good base in pass protection and does well against the bull rush. He is also a high-effort, high-intensity, tough guy who looks to bury his man. He has a great frame, is a good athlete for his size, and really only needs to learn the position." He could move up even further," said Trieu. "He has great upside and his summer performance was incredible considering he hadn't played tackle. This may sound crazy, but if we had a draft, and the pool of players was just kids from Michigan, I can't say I wouldn't take Fisher in the top three. That's simply because of his upside and the position that he plays. He has made tremendous strides this summer, and I think he will have an outstanding college career not only because of his physical tools, but the toughness and work ethic he has shown this summer."
- Meet The Rookies on Patroits.com: Zoltan Mesko : Around 9 a.m. Saturday morning, April 24 — the third and final day of the 2010 NFL draft — Tony Gibson was heading to his office on the University of Michigan campus. As the Wolverines Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Backs Coach/Special Teams Coordinator approached the doors of the facility, out came punter Zoltan Mesko. Coach and player stopped to chat.
When Gibson inquired what Mesko was doing there so early on a weekend — draft weekend, no less — the top-ranked punter in this year’s draft class said he’d just finished a workout and was headed back home to wait by the phone.
“You haven’t been drafted yet?” Gibson asked.
“No, not yet,” Mesko replied, “but I’m hoping to hear something this morning.” Shortly after their brief exchange, Mesko’s phone rang, a 508 area code on the other end. It was the Patriots, welcoming him as their fifth-round draft choice.

Michigan Tuesday: Wolverine 2011 Recruiting Blitz
It seems there are two offensive lineman that are close to giving their verbal to the Wolverines in the next week or so. Many recruiting insiders expect Tampa's Tony Posada and Traverse City's Jake Fisher to call Coach Rod and say they want to be Wolverines next year. Tony is 6'6 and Jake is 6'7 come on down or up to Ann Arbor boys!
If Tony and Jake jump on board Michigan will have 9 verbals for 2011 with probably just 8-9 more players to go.
- Seantrel Henderson is free of his LOI from USC but it doesn't seem likely that he will re-consider the Wolverines.
- MI RB Justice Hayes was named to the Rivals All Nike Camp recently. His final list includes: Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame and Tennessee. Most insiders believe he is headed to East Lansing.
- PA DB Keyshoen Jarrett has Michigan in his top group which include: Illinois, MSU, U Conn, Penn State, Pitt, Stanford, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Jarrett is rated 4 stars by Rivals and is 5'11 and 182 pounds.
- Cyrus Hobbi a 6'4, 285 pound OG from Scottsdale is planning a Michigan visit next week. Rivals ranks Cyrus as a 4 star prospect #72 player in the nation and #2 OG in the country. As you might expect Cyrus has more offers from just about everyone.

Michigan Tuesday: Woodley and Hart Rising
When NFL teams passed on LaMarr Woodley in the NFL draft, I knew they would end up regretting it. If you remember, LaMarr was a second round pick and the 46th pick overall in 2007 draft to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his short NFL Career, LaMar has had 136 tackles, 29 sacks, and 1 interception. The USA Today says don't be surprised if LaMarr is the highest paid defensive player next year. LaMarr is on a list with a number of other young stars in the NFL. Congratulations to Wood and I hope he gets that big check!
- RIP to Bob Probert. Sad to see a guy pass at 45.
- Mike Hart is ready for new NFL Season with the Colts: "I'm always happy and this is probably the healthiest I've been since I've been on this team," he said. "I'll be fighting for a position on this team, just like always." Head Coach, Jim Caldwell weighs in on Mike: "He's a guy who has a real solid football instinct about him," coach Jim Caldwell said. "He has a knack for understanding how the game should be played. He's got a great knack in terms of his vision and ability. He knows himself. He's obviously a guy who has great passion for what he does."

Michigan Monday: What's a Half a Mill between Friends?
I don't either. We all know what I am talking about and who the real "guilty" party is.
With that said, comes the report that the University of Michigan paid nearly a 1/2 a Million Dollars in legal fees to investigate what turned out to be mis-communication and a couple of guys asleep at the wheel in the athletic department. The exact figure is $446,971.
I can think of a number of ways to spend a half a million dollars if I was the U of M Athletic Department. I bet you could as well. So in the spirit of the band "Bare Naked Ladies" famous song, "If I had a million dollars". Here are my thoughts on how to spend the money:
10. Hire a few coaches from Detroit Southeastern and Southwestern. (Sorry Sparty, just had to go there.)
9. Construct a petting zoo for Mike Barwis wolves.
8. Buy maize "We Believe" Towels for every Michigan fan entering the UConn game.
7. Hire a private plane and keep it near USC's campus with free flights to the Ann Arbor Airport.
6. Put permanent lighting in the Big House. (I'm sure it would cost a few dollars more)
5. Help fund Tedd Ginn, Sr. Football Camp Tour Bus.
4. Fund a Rich Rodriguez Football Camp in Orlando, Florida.
3. Repaint the numbers (farther apart) on the seats in the Big House. Give us at least one "cheek" more.
2. Pay it all to Keith Jackson to announce one more game in the Big House.
1. Build a "Ring of Honor" and have a half time dedicated to the induction of the late great Bo Schembechler and Bob Ufer. Michigan wouldn't have to "retire" numbers but this is also a place were we could recognize great Michigan players and Heisman Trophy winners of the past.

Michigan Friday: A Firecracker Recruiting Blitz
News Hotter Then a Bottle Rocket:
The new Scouts Michigan 80 is up and one guy "shot" up the rankings! That player is Traverse City's own 6'7 Jake Fisher. Jake has been playing well a camps and just earned a Michigan offer. He is now rated #6 in the state and a 4 star prospect by Scouts. Look for Jake to move up e en farther on the list, with a good year a OT. I could see him as high as the State's #3 player overall.
1) Lawerence Thomas
2) DeAnthony Arnett
3) Brennen Beyer
4) Anthony Zettel
5) Justice Hayes
6) Jake Fisher
7) Valdez Showers
8) Onaje Miller
9) Ed Davis
10) Delonte Hollowell
11) Shawn Conway
Michigan has verbals from Conway, Hollowell, and Beyer. There are offers out to Arnett, Zettel, Hayes, Fisher, Showers and Davis. I would say Michigan has a fighting chance with Zettel, Fisher, and Showers. Davis has been hot and cold lately and has been buying into negative recruiting from other programs.
Guys that got too close to the Roman Candles and prefer the Snake:
Michigan lost out on some guys this week that they were hoping to be Wolverines.
- TE Ray Hamiltion picked Iowa over Michigan and other schools. Ray is good friends with new Michigan verbal Jack Miller. Michigan will continue to recruit the TE position and would like to add one to this class.
- DT Corey Marshall picked Virgina Tech. It's close to home for him.
- S Ron Tanner will pick the Buckeyes this weekend. The kid lives in Columbus.
- OL Andre Yruretagoyena picked Nike Town instead of Adidasville. This is a tough one, since Michigan needs offensive lineman and he was a former teammate of Taylor Lewan and Craig Roh. I wonder if he will change his mind after Taylor Lewan dominates this year?
Could still see the Maize and Blue colors in their eyes as they watch the Ann Arbor Airport Fireworks!
If I had to guess at Michigan's board right now, here is how I think it would stack up on guys they hope to be Wolverines in 2011:
- D. Hart
- Anthony Zettell
- Kris Forst
- Jake Fisher
- Avery Walls
- One more WR
- Tony Posada
- James Adeyanju
- Ray Ball
- A linebacker
Hey are you new to the neighborhood? Your a big fella, would you like a hot dog or two?
Some new Michigan offers:
- 6'5 330 pounds Chris Bryant a 3 star OT from Chicago. I bet he could put down a few Chicago dogs!
- 6'5 260 pound OT Nick Martin from Indy. I bet he is hoping for the Big Ten Championship game in his hometown.
- 6'1 209 pound LB from Houston, Kellen Jones has had an offer from Michigan but is now planning a trip to Ann Arbor soon.
Happy Holiday Weekend!

Michigan's Basketball Team is Heading To Europe
Today must be basketball day as the Michigan men's basketball team will be heading to Europe this summer to get in some international games, see the sites, and hopefully gel as a team with 10 extra practices and 4 games. I think the most exciting part of the trip, will be that John Belein's squad will get to play with the 4 new freshman players in real game competition.
Here is the announcement:
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball head coach John Beilein announced today (Thursday, July 1) plans for a nine-day trip to Europe, including four exhibition games in Belgium, with the members of his 2010-11 U-M squad.
"This is an outstanding opportunity for our team to get an early start on the season," said Beilein. "With a young team, we hope this tour will not only help us grow, but will also be a springboard to the upcoming year. Even more important than basketball is the wonderful chance for these young men, coaches and staff to experience an overseas trip throughout Europe. The cultures, traditions and rich history of the countries we visit will be educational and provide lasting memories."
The Wolverines will depart from Ann Arbor for Amsterdam on Aug. 20. After arriving the following morning, U-M will continue onto the northern part of the city of Brussels for its first exhibition game. The Wolverines will take on Gent in the first of four exhibition contests on Aug. 22. The next day (Aug. 23), U-M will head to the southern side of Brussels and will square off against Leuven in the second of four games.
Before their final two games, the Wolverines will take a day trip and tour Paris on Aug. 24. Returning to Belgium on Aug. 25, the Maize and Blue play its third game against Oostande, a city located in northern Belgium on the southern side of the English Channel.
The Wolverines close their four-game schedule facing newly hired administrative assistant Travis Conlan's former team, Mons, on Aug.26.
With the basketball schedule complete, the Wolverines will travel back to Amsterdam to tour the city, the Anne Frank house and Diamond Factory before heading back to Michigan on Aug. 28.
The trip is the second foreign trip for U-M in the last six years after U-M spent a four-game exhibition tour throughout Toronto, Canada, prior to the 2003-04 season. The NCAA allows teams to take foreign trips once every four years as long as competition will be a part of the travel. Teams that take foreign trips are allowed an extra 10 days of practice together before the trip.
New NCAA legislation now makes it possible for newcomers to participate in preseason foreign trips. Those newcomers must meet NCAA initial eligibility requirements while completing a minimum of three credits of coursework during the summer term.
Michigan will travel 13 players including the four newcomers -- Tim Hardaway Jr., Evan Smotrycz, Jon Horford and Colton Christian -- on the nine-day tour.
Michigan Thursday: LLP IS Out of Gas at Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball head coach John Beilein announced today (Wednesday, June 30) that redshirt-junior guard Laval Lucas-Perry (Flint, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic HS) has been dismissed from the program.
"The University of Michigan and our men's basketball program has established expectations essential to the success of all students and athletes," said Beilein. "These university and team standards have been clearly communicated to the team and Laval on numerous occasions through meetings, conferences and mentorship.
"Unfortunately, Laval has violated our team standards. Therefore, I have decided that he will no longer be a part of our basketball program. Given the fact that Laval is near the completion of his degree, he has been extended the offer to remain on scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year and graduate in May with our 2011 class."
