Michigan Friday: Big Recruiting Weekend on Deck

State of the Union

Michigan has 11 verbals commitments in the 2011 class.  I expect the Wolverines would want to sign a class of 20 players, which leaves 9 spots to be filled in 12 days.   Michigan lost it's two highest ranked commits in 5 star Dee Hart and silent commit 5 star Kris Frost.

This Weekend's Visitors

I went into more detail yesterday on this weekends visitors but Michigan with host:

3 verbal commits:  Posada, Hayes, and new commit Carter.

5 prospects:  Raymon Taylor, Frank Clark, Matt Wile, Stefan McClure, and Leilon Willingham.

All visitors are serious about Michigan and the Wolverines have a good chance at getting each one of these guys to sign in 12 days.  Next weekend will be huge as well.

Latest news to share with recruits

  • Michigan hires Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Terrell Suggs Defensive Coordinator from the Baltimore Ravens, Greg Mattison.   Leilon Willingham is a huge a Ray Lewis fan and changed his weekend trip from Texas AM to Michigan.

  • HD Video Boards:  The Michigan Regents just approved $20 million in HD video boards for the Big House, Crisler, and Yost Arenas.   With these new boards, The Big House, Schembechler Hall, and the Al Glick Field House Michigan might have the best football facilities in the nation.
2011 QB?

With Tate now officially gone, it's pretty clear Michigan would like to have a QB in this class but makes one in the 2012 class a top priority.  The rumor mill is saying that Michigan is focusing on a 2011 Boston College commit named Christian Suntrup.   Christian is a 6'3, 205 pound pro style QB from St. Louis.  He is rated 3 stars by Rivals.

Who are some new names that Michigan might be looking at?

- DE Max Issaka (6'3", 240 lbs) from New Jersey.
- TE Jamare Mills (6'5", 244 lbs) from Ohio.
- DE Brandon Alexander (6'6", 230 lbs) from Texas.

Update:  I forgot to mention that Hakeem Flowers a WR with a nice offer list will be picking a school on Sunday.  Insiders expect his decision to be Blue.  We will see.

They are going after way to many 3 star guys why not try to hit a few home runs as well (4 0r 5 star recruits). I am excited about the future but this class is going to be below average at best.

How are they going after too many 3 star guys. All the visitors this weekend outside of Frank Clark, who is from Ohio State Pipeline Glenville and a kicker are 4 stars. How can you be so picky a week before signing day with a new staff?

There is a good mix of both right now and let's be honest. They have less than two weeks to fill about 8-9 spots and I would rather fill those slots with 3 star guys (with good upside and a Michigan "fit") then save them for next year.

They are sticking around in the midwest which is fine, but they can try other areas of the US for recruiting. I've seen a few good prospects out there that would be good for us.
Example Akil Dan-Fodio is a QB in Georgia who is 6'4 210lbs and runs a 4.6 with a GPA of 3.9. he only has offers from harvard, UCF, UAB.
So tell me why hoke and co. wouldn't look at this kid.
I'm going to reserve my real comments for now, but i think hoke is doing something i'm not going to be happy with.
It is a lot kids out there with good talent that would love to play for michigan and they have us on their boards if they got the SAT & ACT scores we should at least give them a shotl

I believe we should bring Scott Loeffler back to develop the qb's. The importance of being a good coach is having the ability to turn players weaknesses into strengths no matter what star level they came in at and scott can do that.
I'm not convinced that BORGES can pull that off.

No way Former Hurricanes come to Michigan to coach. When you are from the "U", it's forever no matter what. That's like Coach K from Duke leaving to go coach at North Carolina. Not Going to happen.

Scott coached at Florida not the "U" and he was a long time QB for Michigan

kainkitizen, you need to learn your MICHIGAN history facts. Scott Loeffler has great success with our qb's .

I agree whole heartedly with you "maize n blue blood" lets get Scott Loeffler back her for the QB's, I think he's another Coach that would walk back here if he had too.....

"No way Former Hurricanes come to Michigan to coach." You read but didn't listen. Ray Lewis and Ed Reed are from the "U". They would never ever come to Michigan and Coach. I was referencing this to this statement in the posting.

Michigan hires Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and Terrell Suggs Defensive Coordinator from the Baltimore Ravens, Greg Mattison. Leilon Willingham is a huge a Ray Lewis fan and changed his weekend trip from Texas AM to Michigan.

Sorry about the confusion.

"Maize n Blue Blood" , I did check out this kid Akil Dan-Fodio, he's the real deal and a playmaker too. I saw his Jr. and Sr. Hilites on YouTube and he's a player on a team with little support which means he's productive under adversity. Can somebody close to Hoke pull his coat to this kid? He's not committed. GA Historian
