Wolverine Wednesday: Will June be a good month for the Wolverines?

There was a lot of chatter on the Internet last night that Michigan is expecting another commitment soon.  Most folks will point to DT Maurice Hurst who has pretty much said he is going to commit to the Wolverines after or during his visit.    He is planning a visit to Ann Arbor the weekend of June 2nd.

Sam Webb from Scouts said on the radio today that depending on how the numbers work out, Michigan could take 3 more defensive line prospects in this class.

Also filed under Internet rumors: it seems Brady Hoke recently said at a coaches clinic in Scottsdale that Michigan has 3 WR's committed in this class.   As you can see from the toolbar on the left, Michigan has two "public" WR commitments.   Could that mean there is a silent commit?  Could that mean Laquon Treadwell?  We hope so.

  • Michigan has parted ways with Baseball Coach Rich Maloney yesterday.  The Wolverines had back to back losing seasons.  Rich had many job offers winning a few Big Ten Titles before he signed his last contract with the Wolverines but it seems David Brandon wants to go in another direction with the baseball program.  Is Barry Larkin next?  I doubt it, he makes too much with ESPN.  Jim Abbott would be a good choice as well.

  • Michigan made $79,000 in profit from the Sugar Bowl.  At least they didn't lose money like most teams attending bowls do.   Everyone loves the Bowl system over a playoff but if teams are losing money every bowl they attend, how is that a good long term solution?  I'm betting there comes a time a team turns down a bowl game not for football reasons but for a finanical one.

Is that $79,000 profit including TV fees, or just money from tickets?

In the Big Ten all the bowl revenue, TV revenue, etc go into one pot and each team gets an even share.

The Big 10 gave U of M $2M for Bowl expenses and basically the $79K was left over. Here is the article on the details: http://espn.go.com/colleges/michigan/football/story/_/id/7954934/michigan-wolverines-make-78916-sugar-bowl

The $79k does not include the shared Big Ten Bowl Revenue.
