Michigan Tuesday: Updates Some Football Recruiting

Since we are a couple days away from Round 1 Round 2 in the NCAA, I thought I would update the BHB Inmates with some minor recruiting news.

This time of year is good time for un-official visits by players interested in becoming a Wolverine.  The weather isn't the best but you get to see a spring practice and spend some more time with coaches.   Michigan has been hosting some big named players and it has been making an impact.  Here are a few updates:

  • 5 Star QB Josh Rosen from California had a great visit and it went much better then he expected.  With that said, he is announcing for UCLA on Thursday.   Close but no cigar on this recruitment.

  • 4 Star DB Garett Taylor from Richmond, Virginia also had a great visit and tweeted he now has Michigan #1 on his list.  There are rumblings he could commit to the Wolverines any time now.   He was planning a longer recruitment but the small Michigan class could push his time table way up.

  •  5 Star OH LB Justin Hilliard made his sixth trip up to Ann Arbor last weekend.   His recruitment seems far from over but many believe its a Michigan, OSU and ND battle for the young man.  Iowa is also in play because his brother is a RB there.

  • Michigan continues to be interested in 2015 Brother Rice QB Alex Malzone but has not offered him yet.    It seems Coach Nuss would like to see him throw before they offer.

  • Four-star OH TE CJ Conrad is another player the coaches are "dating" but not married to.  Of course Michigan has an offer out to Wheat's son who is a DE/TE.   I believe the Michigan coaches would prefer Wheat Jr. to play TE.

  • LB Darrin Kirkland Jr from Indianapolis is visiting Michigan today

It's very clear the Michigan coaches are being very selective in offers this year because of the small class size.  We haven't had positive news on the recruiting trail for awhile now, so it would be nice to land a 2015 recruit.

  • Orlando had a combine this past weekend where many Florida 5 star players attended.   One of the names from the past, George Campbell sort of got a backhanded compliment from a Scouts analyst.  (bold is mine)
“George has everything you look for in a wide receiver,” Brooks said. “He has all the tools. He makes plays and looks like a guy that can play at the next level. He has so much God given ability. He just needs to maximize it.”
