Wolverine Wednesday: The ACC Wants To Play Itself in the Non-Conference

Notre Dame decided to end their relationship with Michigan and will get the last home game in the series this season.   The main reason they ended the rivalry was their new relationship with the ACC.   They will play some ACC teams and can take a bowl slot but they won't really be in the confernece.   They want to protect all that NBC/Comcast money.

Since having ND with one foot in and one foot out of the conference gives many ACC teams a scheduling problem.   The solution?  The ACC is discussing playing conference teams in the non-conference:

"I think all the coaches felt like playing each other more, if there was a model for that, we'd be open to it," NC State coach Dave Doeren said. "They are going to allow us to use that plus-one game in the conference as a nonconference game so that will be interesting to see where it goes. When we don't have to play Notre Dame, playing Duke or Virginia or somebody from the Coastal that we don't play will be a discussion we want to have."

"It's going to be more challenging to find nonconference games," James said. "A conference like the SEC doesn't want to play us. Florida has Florida State, so we're not going to have an opportunity to play them."

I can see David Brandon, in his pizza shaped office, laughing at the ACC and not understanding they can play Appalachian State or ship home games to Dallas.

  • Pistons hire Stan Van Gundy,  I like him as a head coach, not sure as a President.

  • IU at Michigan time is set for 3:30.  It's homecoming and I hope the defense finds it way back home for that game.

  • We like Roundtree's:  Michigan has offered 5 star safety Rashad Roundtree in the 2015 class.  (no relation to Roy)
