Michigan Friday: Does Rutgers Preview and a Lot of Other Stuff

Let's address the "other stuff" first:

  • If you want to understand what Jim Harbaugh is about read this detailed article on ESPN.com about him.  Very interesting and really the reason why he is a much better fit in college then with "grown men" who are millionaires in the NFL.   In college, you can live with this for 4 years and it probably will make you a better person, in the NFL it will grow old very fast.   It seems Jim has a ton of Bo in him and another reason why he is a good fit in Ann Arbor.   There are plenty of good coaches that are not a good fit in the NFL.  Good examples are Bo, Saban, Spurrier, and so on.  Jim is known for turning around programs and were in the need of his services.    Michigan should follow Alabama's example when they plucked Saban from the Dolphins.

  • David Brandon did a bunch of interviews yesterday and said what I pretty much thought he would.  He is learning from what happened last weekend, he never thought about resigning, he prefers to evaluate coaches after the season, he learned from the mistakes he has made with the student tickets, and so on.  He is clearly not worried about this job and was "sad" that so many people want him out.   I'm sad that this program continues to decline under his leadership.   Quick memo to him: stop being so cocky and blind and fix things or get the hell out.   If your a true leader, you have a plan for this.  If you don't have a plan (because it sure has hell doesn't look like it) just resign and save us all the trouble of having to get you fired.   His interviews came off like pretty much everything he does, insulting the intelligence of his fan base.

  • The logistics problem:  Michigan has a new president in Mark Schlissel and he is 100% all academics and zero athletics.   He was hired from Brown, which obviously doesn't have major college athletics.   I'm willing to bet dollar to donuts, he doesn't understand things like recruiting timelines, NFL hiring windows, why Hoke and Bradon should be fired, who Jim Harbaugh is, and so on.   It's very important to have the proper timing in all of this and I'm pretty sure he doesn't understand any of it.  He is a really smart guy, so lets hope he figures it out fast.   Desmond needs to get on the horn with him ASAP.

  • Anyone see that RR beat #2 Oregon again last night?  Salt find wound.

Preview Rutgers

Time: 7:00 EST
Location: High Point Solutions Stadium
Weather:  70/42 80% rain
TV: BTN
Line: Rutgers -2

My previews are going to very short for the rest of the year unless we see an un-precedented turn around.

Remember when we thought Michigan had a pretty easy schedule?   Right.

Devin Gardner will play and is obviously the choice since the other candidates are ripping a redshirt off a true freshman or the "where the hell is my helmet?" Bellomy.   I would assume the Michigan coaches are smart enough not to play a mildly concussed, high ankled sprained sophomore QB.   The only time Michigan can score on offense is if the other team lets them run for like 7 yards per carry.   Any DC worth it's salt will keep everyone in the box to stop the run.

DG does bring the scramble which alone got Michigan into a bowl game last year.   My advice at this point is to go "Denard" offense and try to run Rutgers out of the building.    This game will be another indication if "operation shutdown" is in effect.   There is a high probability it is.
It's hard to sell this team is still together and buying the vision.

The OL line has to be much better, DG has to play with confidence, and our RB's have to run pissed off.   If that happens, Michigan has a chance. Michigan's D will keep the team in the game for 3 quarters, if Michigan can score a couple points.    Of course, Michigan has yet to play well on the road in what seems like years.

Anyone else feel sick that it's week 6 and were already talking about next year with a new head coach?

Watch at your own discretion.

Rutgers 28 Michigan 9

Well with the right coaching recruiting apparently isn't a huge issue.....Arizona managed to land a couple of 2 stars every year and seems ok.....Better than Utah's recruiting....hmmmm

The Arizona O and D lines really got pushes and looked great against Oregon...they were motivated and Tough....Chris Allen is their S&C coach...Worked for Barwis at M as his assistant....enough said....except that for the most part they weren't very sought after recruits.

Rich Rod was lights out yesterday. Total badass. If -- if -- only he had a defensive coordinator at Michigan. Ah well.

Regarding Jim Harbaugh. You want it to happen. You wish it to happen.
It aint happening.

Oregon's offensive line and defensive front 7 are VERY banged up. Not even close to the team that Sparty played just a few weeks ago.

AZ BARELY beat UT-San Antonio, Nevada, and a bad Cal team. So anyone singing the RR praises is a moron.

Oh, and by the way, this week Michigan circles the wagons. Gardner looks good, extends drives, and plays loose now that he's away from the Boo Birds.

Michigan 24
Rutgers 13

Would a Hoke coached team beat Oregon last night? See Notre Dame 2014. So yes... rich Rod had a good win last night. That hasn't been said in Ann Arbor in a long time. Rich Rod is a good coach. The lproblem with Michigan football lies in the culture. Living in the past makes them soft with no sense of urgency.

Tonights screw up de jure was the defensive 3rd down stops. You cant win on the road if a home team is allowed to complete for 53, 24, 16, 10, 35 etc yards on 3rd down. It should have never come down to that last drive and that clear miscall by the officials AND replay booth on that michigan reception that was called incomplete. The thing was a catch and the 9 yards increases Wile's odds at the FG exponentially. But. Like i said, it should have never came to that. Rutgers should not have scored any more than 10-13 points that game.

I would now like to break my foot off in Dave Brandon's arrogant, prick ass and see him take a heap of shit media storm on that comment he made to a Michigan Season ticket holder. Bob, please feature a write up or 10 on what Brandon said to that Michigan fan to add to the media fire storm he should face for that.

Honest question (as I watch the rest of the MSU game), is MSU what Michigan used to be in the Carr days? And also, when was the last time Michigan went through this many down years?

U got it kyle we are msu from the 80's & 90's. We r little brother.

I think the last down cycle were the 18 years prior to and leading up to the Bo era. This current situation might be like a nuclear winter defining our UM football experience the remaining years of our youthful and middle-aged lives...

Brady's post game comments (I did not watch, but I would bet they sounded like this). We did some thing well, we have a lot to work on. We didn't execute, we need to do better on 3rd down. It starts with us as coaches, we have to to better. Those kids worked their butts off.

I think it was the late Ronald Regan when he was running against Jimmy Carter who asked the public, "are you better off than you were four years ago?" Of course the answer would have been "NO," which meant it was time for a change, and the public promptly changed their leadership.

If we asked ourselves this question regarding the state of Michigan football, the answer is "No, on our results... quite possibly with the quality of the kids that we've recruited." So is it time for a change?

I was listening to a football analyst comment today about a pro team that struggled last week and he stated, "football is about blocking and tackling, if you don't do it, you can't win." Giving your best effort is fine, but not being able to block or tackle shows up in the win vs. loss columns. Is it time for a change? IMHO!!!

It is without a doubt. Brady has a full slate of his recruits, two of the 'top' coordinators in the game, and is off to the worst start of his 4 years. No more excuses, this is Michigan for God's sake!!!
Time for a change.
