Did Michigan get a win on Sunday? Let's hope they did.
The 49'ers lost to the NFL Champs Seattle Seahawks and the Detroit Lions won when the Vikings decided to try nearly a 70 yard field goal. Those wins will keep the 49'ers out of the playoffs with two games to go.
That means it's time for Jimmy to make a decision on his future. Mgoblog reports that there are people very close to the search that Hackett is very close of getting Jimmy to come home. It's time to close for Hackett and team.
Why now?
Because NFL teams can't officially contact Jim about coaching for them for at least two weeks. Jimmy still has a year on his contract and the 49'ers would have to give permission for any team to talk to Jimmy and to discuss a trade. Michigan has a two week window to close him before someone like Miami or Oakland starts to negotiate.
The latest reports are that Stephen Ross might want Jimmy to come to South Florida. He mentioned earlier in the Fall that he preferred to have Jimmy go to Michigan. Even though he gives hundreds of millions of dollars to U of M, his name will be dirt with fans and some alumni if he gets into a bidding war with the Wolverines. In fact, he might already be lined up to cover some of Jimmy's salary if he does come to Ann Arbor. I don't see Ross doing this, but if he is involved it's probably a clear sign Jimmy wants to stay in the NFL.
Buckle up because I see Michigan having a head coach or a very good idea who the head coach will be this week. I'm still sticking to my two candidates: Jimmy and Les.
BTW: The recruiting dead/quiet period starts today.

Role-reversal.
The basketball team has lost three in a row. NJiT and EMU were really bad losses, AZ probably went as expected.
Coach B has been magical overcoming the loss of talent to the NBA the last few seasons... This season will be proof that he can't do that every year. This is a strong, young team and will be a force next season. Funny how these struggles really aren't alarming because there is a head coach that we trust on the bench.
I for one, am looking forward to when there is a head coach we trust on the sidelines and we can lose a game we're favored in and not feel panic.
Lets hope and pray that Hackett doesn't fumble this ball.
At this juncture I sure as hell hope J.H and Hackett have a certain "understanding" that J.H wants this job, and that J.H is not using his alma mater to negotiate himself a phat NFL contract. This search has been going on long enough at this point that if the latter is true. J.H would be one evil, manipulative son-of-a-bitch for sabotaging our current search. When you read J.H's history with this program and with Bo, my brain and heart both tell me that is not the case. So, I am bullish on J.H right about now, this wait is indicative of a backroom deal already in place that will now be hastened by the 49er’s playoff elimination, and I do think J.H will be our Head Coach. The alternative requires J.H to be a completely narcissist, such a opportunistic evil program crushing A-hole, that its just too horrendous to be fathomable... One thing is for certain, the nation LOVES it when Michigan shits the bed, and there are thousands of NCAAF folk out there that are just waiting to rub this in our collective faces if this coach search derails and this waiting game compromises our Plan B...

There has to be an amount that will bring JH here? Is it the 8 million that Bob mentioned? How much is 8m a year really? Maybe Ross will kick in for half and we will be good to go? All the good NFL teams are not firing their coaches...If JH wants the NFL he will have to take a team that he can turn around in a few years before his welcome wears out. I wonder if there are any teams that will give him full control?
