Michigan Thursday: Will Weber or Won't He

Jimmy's top target seems to be RB Mike Weber.  "Harbaugh has been calling Weber since he got here," Wilcher said.

That is Thomas Wilcher former Michigan RB and current Cass Tech head coach.   Jimmy met with Mike at a restaurant in Royal Oak yesterday afternoon before he flew out to met with Chris Clark.   Mike said he wasn't planning another visit to Ann Arbor but it would be great is he took one this weekend.

On a side note, Ty Wheatley was the first person to show interest in Mike Weber when he was RB coach at Syracuse.  So there is a long relationship there and another reason for Mike to be torn.

Why Michigan?

  • School he was already committed to
  • Probably would never have de-committed if he knew Harbaugh was going to be hired.
  • Close to home so his family can see every home game
  • Relationship with Ty Wheatley

Why OSU?
  • I heard they had a good season last year
Both teams have very good RB's on the roster, so he will have to compete at both schools.   Remember Brionte Dunn?  He was in a similar situation between Michigan and OSU and Urban Meyer came in a picked him off last minute.   Reports are he is going to transfer to Youngstown State to play for Bo Pelini and Tressel (who is the President).

Michigan has been looking to add at least another WR to this class to join enrolled Brian Cole.  Yesterday, Michigan made two offers to guys that will probably visit this weekend.

  • Van Jefferson is a 4 star WR that just committed to Ole Miss.   He is 6'1 and 166 pounds and his dad is the former WR coach for the Detroit Lions, so he grew up in Metro Detroit.

  • 2015 WR Deontay Burnett is the other WR getting an offer yesterday.  He is 3 star WR committed to Washington State.  He is a 5'11 166 pound WR from California.

  • Another new offer and probable visitor is Wisconsin CB/RB Titus Booker.  He is a 3 star athlete that could play either position.
When you include Rutgers CB commit Jarius Adams that seems the official visitors that are expected in this weekend.

I have this sneaky feeling that this staff is going to knock it out of the park on NSD. I can see Weber, Clark, and Marshall all coming to A2 to start what is really truly going to be something special both on and off the field.

A BIG splash on NSD would be great, no doubt.

It's pretty tough to make up for two years of recruiting in just two months. Jim has his work cut out for him, trying to overcome two years worth of relationship that these other coaches have forged with these 18 year old kids.

I think we end up with Clark, and if he's the only big fish, that's a pretty successful effort.... Marshal and/or Weber would be icing on the cake.
