Michigan Tuesday: Don't You Visit Ann Arbor!

The Michigan coaches are working the United States very hard.   They are visiting prospects and trying to get kids on campus for the last official weekend before signing day.    When Harbaugh calls people pick up the phone and listen, they will even welcome him into their homes or schools.  The problem is, it all falls apart after he leaves the building.

Case in point:

  • 2015 DE Daishon Neal and Nebraska commit was visited by Michigan on Monday and started to plan a visit to Ann Arbor for this weekend.   He changed his mind and now is announcing his commitment this morning.  Update: Neal picked Nebraska after being offered by Michigan yesterday and also said that Mattison told him, the only way he gets into Michigan is through football.   That doesn't sound like something Mattison would say to a recruit he is trying to get to visit.   ESPN's TomVH called it a win over Harbaugh.   I think highly of Tom but not sure you can call it a win when he was already a Nebraska commit and Michigan just offered 24 hours ago.

  • 2015 CB and UCLA commit Colin Samuel took a visit from Michigan on Monday, started to schedule a visit to A2 and then re-confirmed his commitment to UCLA.

  • Reagan Williams a visitor to A2 last weekend has re-confirmed his commitment to Stanford.
So it's clear that other coaches are not the biggest fan of Jimmy and his bandit of coaches flying around the nation and trying to steal their recruits.   When you are trying to do make up for 18 months of recruiting in one month, that is how you have to roll.

Jimmy met with Iman Marshall and Dad yesterday and his dad is comfortable sending his son to Michigan.   I'm not holding my breath on this one and expect he will end up at USC.

Jimmy will fly out to the snowy Northeast and will meet with Chris Clark and family on Wednesday.

Mike Weber visited OSU this past weekend for the National Championship party.  He hitched a ride with Damon Webb's family.   Mike is still very conflicted and tweeted out how stressed he is.    It will be interesting to see if the Michigan coaches can get him on campus this weekend for a visit and meeting.

Guys who could commit soon?
  • DE Jake Pickard visited last weekend and seemed to really enjoy his visit.  He could be on commit watch.

  • TE Matt Snyder from California has been following Mike Riley around the country this year.  He first committed to him at Oregon State and then followed him to Nebraska.   He visited Ann Arbor last weekend and now has some thinking to do.  “I’m thinking about it,” Snyder said of his decision to stay with the Cornhuskers or not.  Coach [Jim] Harbaugh is supposed to coming over the house [on Monday]. So we’ll talk about it some more. But yeah, I’m interested. We’ll see."
New Offers:

It's clear that Michigan wants some more CB's in this class.  They have just offered CAL commit and 3 star CB/Athlete from Alabama Keith Washington.  It's also clear they are targeting guys at good academic schools, so that grades are not an issue.   (they also like tall corners, Keith is 6'2)

  • Justice Hayes has decided to take a graduate year transfer.  He said that Harbaugh let him know he could have a 5th year if he wanted but it's his decision to move on and look for a new opportunity.   I always liked Justice and thought it was a mistake not to get his speed on the field more often.   I hope he finds a good situation for a ton of playing time.
With Justice out, this should open another spot in the 2015 class.

A thought for the day:  Is Brady Hoke and Central Michigan a match made in heaven?  This needs to happen!  CMU actually has a good candidate on staff and there is also a good candidate in Big Rapids with coach Tony Annese.

My bet is all these schools are quickly adopting Brady's philosophy, 'if you visit another school, we no longer consider you committed to us' as an 11th hour insurance policy protecting their 2015 class....

Do you really want to visit Michigan, and risk finding out it isn't what you're looking for, only to lose your spot in our recruiting class?

and who could blame them?
Whatever Jim manages to do with this years class will be as good as could be expected... After this year he'll get his fair share of the brightest and the best.

GO BLUE.

recruiting note to self:
If you're ever meeting with a potential commit, try not to imply that they aren't smart enough to go to your school, but football will give them a free pass.

Not likely you're best approach.
