Michigan Thursday: Are There Still Options In 2015?

Most of us expect that the 2015 recruiting class is complete.   Michigan signed 14 high school players and it looks like they will take two transfers.   That would be 16 spots filled with scholarships and probably the number of openings right on the number.   Of course there could be more attrition,   more players could be transferring or have a career ending injury.

Roquan Smith announces his choice on Friday and Michigan is in the top 4 but is not expected to be the final choice.   Another surprise name popped up on the internet yesterday is Alabama athlete Kenterius Womack.   Besides having a great name he is a 6'3 185 pound athlete that played QB in high school but is probably a WR or DB prospect at the next level.   This guy sounds like one of those players that the recruiting services missed:

As of this weekend, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Womack had no scholarship offers and was looking at lower-level programs with prestigious academics. Just a few days later, he's received interest from 54 schools and counting, Brown said, many of which have offered.

The most high-profile program looking at Womack is Michigan, though the Wolverines have not yet offered, Brown said. Womack is working on setting up a visit to UM as well. His offer sheet includes Nevada, Eastern Michigan, Connecticut, Army and Youngstown State, Brown said.

"He fell under the radar," Brown said, "but it's nothing to do with him and nothing to do with us. Sometimes South Alabama, a rural area, you just get lost. We really thought he would be highly recruited."

Womak is expected to visit Ann Arbor this weekend and was taking a visit to Syracuse on Wednesday and Thursday.  Syracuse has offered.

If you ask me, do I want a 6'3 guy that can run a 4-4 or 4-5 and could play WR or DB?  My answer would be YES!  Is a preferred walk-on an option?  Sure, but I would imagine he would take a full ride at Syracuse over a walk-on position at Michigan.

Umich out of state tuition can be brutal. If he can get a full ride at another D1 school, he needs to take that

Question Bob,

Michigan Live had a piece on Karan Higdon today. Apparently he's a 4.0 student, and what closed the deal on his flip was the chance to get a degree from U of M..

Can they get him on academic scholarship, freeing up an athletic scholarship?
I wasn't athletic or smart enough to have to worry about either, I don't know.
