Wolverine Wednesday: Get Your Red Shirts Here! Hot Red Shirts Here!

Michigan fans weren't holding their breath on the medical redshirts for Jabrill Peppers and Desmond Morgan as both guys got hurt early in the year.  They were officially approved yesterday.   This is great news for a defense that could be special next year.

Speaking of the Michigan defense, it seems that Stanford DB Wayne "Fontes" Lyons will be joining the Wolverines as a graduate transfer.  Since he is graduating from Stanford in the Spring, he will be fully eligible next year.   Michigan will have a solid secondary with the likes of:

Peppers at FS
Countess and Lewis at CB
Lyons at Nickel
Wilson, Thomas, Clark at SS

Look for some of those at SS to become a speed LB.  With spread offenses, it becomes more important to have faster playmakers on the field.   Having a 5th year MLB in Morgan replacing Jake Ryan is another huge plus!

  • The Mike Weber saga is over but the real win for the Wolverines was that Urban Meyer burned a bridge at probably the top HS program in Michigan for D1 talent.

  • When you look at all the new editions to the Michigan program in the last few weeks (2015 class & transfers), they filled 16 slots.  I know what your thinking - - Yes, there would be room for Roquan if he surprised many and picked the Wolverines.

  • The 2016 class will probably round out in the low to mid 20 player range.   Look for the Wolverines to focus on the defensive line, offensive line, 1 QB and some speed wide receivers.

Can anybody clarify how Urban is able to oversign? I thought that was not allowed in B1G. And what happens to those kids?

well, three scholarship athletes were told that they suffered career ending injuries, and were no longer on scholarship. Its been reported that two of the three were on the active roster for the NCG, not listed as injured or unable to play.

Dude is a sleazeball, he isn't going to change. Keep in mind this is the same guy who schemed with Drayton and was on the phone with weber until 1am convincing him to come to ohio over michigan, all the while knowing that drayton was gone, and if Weber learned of it, he would surely commit to Michigan.

Totally agree. Urban will not change nor will OSU. Urban has not interest or desire to coach boys into productive members of society all he cares about is winning with the kids and could care less what happens when they leave OSU. And OSU just wants him to win and could care less about kids...it is a perfect match.

Let's all hope Jimmy and gang can do to them what Saban and company did to Florida. Maybe in a year or two Urban will leave for "family issues" again and pop up on Big 12 or Pac 10?!?!?!

That's exactly what I said when urban liar took the job at ohio. if he thought there was pressure and fair weather fans in gainesville, wait til he has a bad season in columbus!!! Herbstriet, a favorite son, finally tried to be unbiased on game day and said something that wasn't gushing about ohio.... and his sons were threatened in school, his house was vandalized.... he actually sold his house and moved to cinncinnatti to get away from the hate.
urban has a bad season or two and he'll develop health issues forcing him into retirement, mark my words.....

We just need to beat those thugs a couple seasons in a row to make that happen.

I think Herbie moved out of Ohio, somewhere in Tennessee I believe. He is a big Cincinnati Reds fan though.

They also had a number of guys that enrolled early, which means they can use the 14 class scholarships if they are available. With the injuries and back dating, I think they got to the Big 10 limit of scholarships for the year.
