Michigan Tuesday: Spike Getting Surgery

News after the basketball season was that Spike had two bad hips that probably both need surgery.   He has decided to go ahead and get surgery on one (you can only have one done at a time) and he will miss all of summer conditioning.   Let's hope he comes back healthy and ready to play big minutes next fall.  Good Luck Spike!

Speaking of NCAA Basketball congratulations to Wisconsin for their run in the tournament that came to an end last night.   I don't know how you feel, but the officials are having way too big of an impact on the game.   The tipped ball out of bounds and Duke stepping out of bounds on the baseline were huge misses by the officials.

  • Coach B doesn't expect anyone leaving the program this summer outside of LeVert's NBA decision.

Since Spring Practice is over it's time for the Michigan staff to focus on camps across the US and recruiting.    The big question remains is: how many spots will Michigan have available in the 2016 class?  The numbers right now look to be in the area of 14-15 spots.   With injuries, transfers and possible retirements I expect that number to end up around 20.

Michigan currently has 5 players committed and I expect guys to jump on board before their senior season's begin.   After watching the spring game, I think the WR is a big position of need.  The Wolverines need guys that can catch the ball in traffic and take the top off the defense.  Michigan is recruiting hard two instate guys in Fitzpatrick and Corley.

In-state RB Matt Falcon is still in play even after the commitment of Alabama RB King Davis yesterday.  Matt released his top 5 on Monday which included Michigan, Tenn, Oregon, Arkansas, and ASU.

Another side note on the Spring Game:

The defensive line looks really good this year and we know Wormley, Mone, Glasgow, Henry, Marshall and Hurst played well on Saturday.   Their good play will allow the LB's the freedom to make tackles and even rush the QB.   Think about some of the guys that didn't play like Pipkins, Taco and Ojemudia.   This defensive front could be really good and create a much improved pass rush this year.

I hope you are correct. I am somewhat concerned that for his first 14 weeks at M Harbaugh was unable to secure any commits.

When Winslow stepped out of bounds it was because he was pushed out of bounds with no call. He should have been shooting 2. Also, the replay decision was because there was not inconclusive evidence. In retrospect, the official hurt Duke way more than they hurt Wisky in that game as they basically took Duke's best 2 frontcourt players out of the game on phantom touch foul calls. It was pretty embarrassing how the game was officiated (especially in the first half). In the end, Duke was far and away a much better team and if Winslow and Okafor wouldn't have been in foul trouble it would have been a 15-20 point win.
