Michigan Monday: Catches Up On News

Well, I guess it's time to move past that train wreck on Saturday.   Things got better pretty quickly as Michigan landed a 6'4 300 pound defensive line recruit in Jordan Elliott from Houston.

Jordan is a 4 star recruit to all services, except Rivals which ranks him a 3 star.   I guess Jordan didn't go to any Rivals camps and they haven't spent too much time evaluating his game.  Elliott was highly recruited with offers from the likes off Alabama, Auburn, Florida, USC, Florida, FSU, ND, Oklahoma, and many others.  That for sure is a 4/5 star offer list.

Jordan has been committed a couple of times and lets hope the third time in a charm.  Michigan needs one other DT in this class and it's a guy with two first names!

  • The Michigan coaches visited LaVert Hill and the same day he de-commits from Penn State.  He announced he will announce his decision at the Army All American game.

  • UCLA commit and 2017 GA LB Jaquan Henderson enjoyed his visit and hopefully saw a huge need for LB's at Michigan.

  • Mecole Hardman Jr. enjoyed his visit to A2 and could see himself in the Maize and Blue.   His recruitment might have taken a bit of turn with the firing of Mark Richt at Georgia.    TE Isaac Nauta also was rumored to have Georgia as his leader.

  • Keyshon Camp who paid his own way this weekend, continues to be very high on the Wolverines.   Would Michigan take him and Gary?

There are strong rumors that DJ Durkin is a finalist for the Maryland job.  I expected he would be a hot candidate but didn't exactly want him in the Big 10 and in the same division as Michigan.   Reports are that he is interviewing today.

Many also expect Michigan to be selected to the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.   Possible opponents could include: Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas AM and any other SEC team outside of Alabama.

If I were Durkin, I'd want my first HC job to be one that wouldn't require a miracle, or change of conference, to have a team that's a contender.

Not sure how much his stock dropped after the Ind and ohio state games, but it had to drop some.

9-3 is much better than reasonably expected at the start of the season, GO BLUE!

I'll admit, I was one to jump against Durkin after the Maryland rumors. It makes one wonder if the reason our defense seemed to go downhill was mostly due to injuries or because someone else took over certain duties to minimize the potential impact of a coach leaving? But one bit of info that is leading to it being the injury bug would be that Durkin is supposed to be in FL visiting a recruit. Would be strange for him to recruit for another team (Maryland) if he's going to be coaching against the team he currently works for (Michigan) yearly. Doesn't sound like good career moves. I'm betting Durkin is staying at least one more year, especially since he turned down an SEC DC job waiting for Harbaugh. Nevertheless, we'll find out eventually...

I thought Durkin was being rumored to have been offered a HC job last year, and turned it down to come to MI... Does that ring a bell? maybe SMU?

I would hope he stays another season. Just heard Richt is being interviewed in MD.

I can't recall the HC interview with Durkin last year so I googled it. Looks like he was wanted by UNC and TAMU for their DC position but couldn't find a HC interview. I forgot he was the interim HC for Florida for their bowl win (granted, against East Carolina). I also was just introduced to a website dealing with latest coaching searches. Guess Richt is being heavily influenced by his family to take a year off but is interviewing for Maryland job (maybe courtesy, good-faith, whatever it may be). I still don't think Durkin is leaving this year though.
