Wolverine Wednesday: Kareem Walker De-Commits From OSU and Should Wilton Play Saturday?

The news from last night is the #1 RB in the country Kareem Walker de-committed from Ohio State.  This was expected as he is planning a number of official visits and completed one to Michigan a few weeks ago.   He considers Jabrill a brother and Michigan will be a factor in his recruitment.  This by no means a lock for the Wolverines, but we weren't even in the discussion say 6 weeks ago.   We will see how Kareem's visits go.

  • LB/DE Caleb Kelly Carlo Kemp is expected to announce this week between Michigan and ND.   This race is too close to call. When that happens I usually give a slight lead to the place he just visited which was South Bend.  Let's hope he makes a decision for A2!

Michigan hosts Rutgers on Saturday at 3:30 (BTN) and is a 3 touchdown favorite. Michigan did lose to Rutgers last year and has plenty to "work out" after an inconsistent performance against the Golden Gophers.   As we sit here midweek a couple questions still remain for this weekend:

Is Jake Rudock healthy enough to play?

If Jake can go, should Wilton play anyway?

At this point in the year, we know what Jake is and isn't.   Yes, he still needs more work in this offense and if he didn't go down last week, he would be playing and starting.    Wilton is coming off the best drive as a Wolverine and needs more live snaps.   If Jake is banged up and sore on Saturday, the Michigan coaches should let Wilton play and see how it goes.    If Michigan can run the ball, they should be able to beat Rutgers and give Wilton the game experience he needs.

After Saturday Michigan goes on a two game road trip to IU and PSU and Michigan will need a healthy Jake in those games.   Give him a clipboard this weekend and give Wilton the ball.

  • Coach John Beilein gets a much deserved contract extension to 2020-21.

  • Former Jimmy OC at Stanford, Pep Hamilton got fired from the Colts yesterday.  I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up on Michigan's staff if a guy like Jedd Fisch gets another job next year.

  • Starting to plan your New Years vacation?  Many bowl predictions has Michigan playing in either Orlando or Tampa.

Carlo Kemp, not Caleb Kelly.

I'd like to see Wilton get more reps. Whether it's getting the start or getting some time in the 2nd half (provided we've taken a couple score lead)

I think we have seen what we have with a healthy Rudock. His good is ok, his not good is... not good. Maybe a hungry back up would seize the opportunity. Remember Tom Brady was a back up, for us and for the Pats.

GO BLUE

BTW, I really like the way Walker is trending. Since his official visit he's make three statements affirming his commitment to ohio. the rumor is he plans to enroll in January. I think saban is probably the one Jimmy's going against on this one, not urban liar.

I think Speight should start. Not only to preserve Rudock for later games, but for down the road. I don't want a QB with no in game experience under Harbaugh starting next season.

The coaches' overwhelming willingness to drill it into our heads that Rudock will start sends me into the opposite direction. Due to health concerns, I don't think Rudock will start. But Rutgers will game-plan for Rudock, not Speight. Hopefully that will help us.

I hope Rudock starts, but I don't see it happening.

As for Speight possibly starting next year? I could be wrong, but I don't see him beating out O'Korn, Gentry, or Peters.

Go Blue!!!!
