Michigan Friday: The Great Football Coaches Are In College

You know the names Harbaugh, Saban, and Meyer.  All of them are running college programs.   Here are the names that filled NFL head coaching jobs yesterday:  Koetter, McAdoo, and Kelly.   Of course, Chip is a brand name but the other teams are fishing out of the coordinator pool.

The Bucs fired a good head coach and promoted their OC, The Eagles will hire the OC from their former head coach and The Giants let go a Hall of Fame coach to hire it's own OC.    San Fran hires a former high profile college head coach that likes a lot of control.  That sounds like something that has worked and failed there in the past.   The more things change...........................

Speaking of coaching moves, the expected change on Jimmy's staff was confirmed last night.   Chris Partridge has been promoted to LB and Special Teams coach.   Many programs don't have the luxury of having just a Special Teams coach and now Michigan is combining that role as well.  This is great news for recruiting and he sounds like a good coach.

With only 3 recruiting weekends left, everyone is a big one.   Here are some of this weekend's visitors:

  • TX OL grad transfer Jake Raulerson
  • TE Chase Allen
  • Penn State commit DT Michael Dwumfour
  • PA Athlete (Safety) Khaleke Hudson
  • Maybe Kicker and PSU commit Quinn Nordin
  • DE Malcom Roach - Texas Commit
  • OT Stephen Spanellis - Virginia Commit

I wouldn't be surprised if Michigan got a couple commits this weekend.  Chase and Jake are officially on commit watch.   It also seems that Michigan might be in a bit of a battle with 3 recruits and two are PSU commits in Hudson (down to Mich - PSU), Quinn Nordin and Dwumfour.  Mike Dwumfour will get a taste of Greg Mattison as his position coach this weekend.   Penn State just lost it's popular DC Bob Shoop to Tennessee.  Mike is the person Sam Webb mentioned as the possible flip candidate that is good friends with Gary.   Mike played at an All Star Game in Daytona Beach the week of the UA game in Orlando and told Scouts that he is interested in Michigan and playing with Gary (if he goes Blue of course).

Lately, as usual I'm off topic... but Lawrence Phillips of Nebraska, (who ruined himself with uncontrollable anger issues), finally committed suicide when threatened with a death penalty trial for killing his cell mate. How some folks have it all and ruin it, and some do not have much "walk-ons", and make a name for themselves... "such is life". Recruiting articles are very informative and interesting, but when a top recruit is deciding between Michigan and another school, I try not to think about it, because it drives me crazier than what I already am!

I think you make a hell of a statement about recruiting talent with character vs recruiting talent.

I THINK Brady did that well.... and I believe Jim does also.

I remember a story about Beilema when he was in Madison. One of the assistant coaches was being interviewed about Beilema's recruiting. According to the assistant, Brett told them, "If you wouldn't be comfortable letting the athlete watch your children when you and your wife go out to dinner, I don't want them in my program. Whether or not that story is true, I don't know... but what a statement if it is! enter urban liar, i think his standards are a tad lower.

GO BLUE.

Dear Ashley,

So you want to make extra money?... all you need to do is provide "lip service"...nothing more... Ashley... you could earn 100's a week, just watch out for those pesky STD's.
