Big Ten Preview Week 5

This is the second week in a row where there really isn't many good Big Ten Match-ups.  This week finally has just Big Ten vs Big Ten match ups.  Let's take a look at all of them.

Big Ten Game of The Week:

Iowa at MSU:  ABC really wants MSU to win this game so they can promote the Michigan - MSU night game next week.   Both teams are coming off home loses with Iowa losing to Penn State at the buzzer and ND running over MSU in East Lansing.  MSU is a -3 favorite, which doesn't make too much sense to me other then Iowa doesn't play well on the road.   Iowa 24 MSU 17

IU at Penn State:  If this game was in Bloomington, I would have PSU on upset alert.    Penn State is -18 in this one and Barkley will probably have 400 total yards.  IU can score and this could be a shoot out.  PSU 40 IU 31

Maryland at Minnesota:  Maryland beat Texas in week one and is now down to their 4th string QB which is bad news.  The Golden Gophers are -13 in this one just on Maryland's QB situation.  I like Minnesota at home.  Minn 24 Maryland 6

Northwestern at Wisconsin:  The Wildcats have been disappointing this year which includes a blow out loss to Duke.  Wisconsin just keeps rolling on.  Wisky is favored by 14.5, this game shouldn't be close.   Wisconsin 31 Northwestern 13

OSU at Rutgers:  Why do they put these blowouts on at night?  OSU is -30.  OSU 50 Rutgers 7

Nebraska at Illinois:  Both programs are 2-2 and not heading anywhere fast.  I think Mike Riley is in trouble if he comes home with a loss.  They are -5.5 favorite.   Nebraska 14 Illinois 10

  • Michigan assistant coaches where on the road yesterday during the bye week.   Don Brown was in West Bloomfield and Jay Harbaugh was in St. Louis.

  • 5-star wing RJ Barrett is no longer visiting Ann Arbor this weekend.

  • Michigan has made contact with 2018 three-star TE Tommy Tremble.  Tommy's top schools and offers are ND, Georgia, Tennessee and UCLA.   We will see if Michigan offers.

Does it seem odd to anyone else that Barkley is Penn State's main kick return guy? I understand he is incredible and one of the most, if not the most, gifted RB's in CF this year.

I am trying to think of other past RB's that were kick returns. I thought of Reggie Bush, but even then Lendale White did quite a bit of the heavy lifting.

I also thought of Sam McGuffie, but he probably isn't in the same category as the two above :)

Back in the day Ty Wheatley returned kicks, if memory serves.

OK. Thanks for info Scott K. I was younger when he played and never actually saw him play for Michigan live.

LOL...showing a little age on my end. Rick Leach, then Anthony Carter, Butch Woolfolk are my first favorite Wolverines, back in the late 70's early 80's.
