Michigan Monday: Big Ten Stock Report Week 1

The Big Ten had some nice wins this past weekend and I will give my take on each team and whether they are a buy, sell or hold for the rest of the season.

BUY

Michigan beat a ranked SEC team.  That doesn't happen to often in the Big Ten.  Don Brown as mentioned yesterday is a freaking Wizard.   I think he might have attended Hogwarts.  Next game: Cincinnati

Ohio State already has a Big Ten conference win and looked pretty solid after a shaky first half.  We will know more after this weekend against Oklahoma.

Maryland beat an over-rated Texas squad with a new big name head coach.   Texas shouldn't have been a top 25 team but either way this is a huge win for Maryland on the road.  DJ is building something here.  Next game: Towson

Indiana lost to Ohio State but they looked sharp on offense and will blow a number of teams out if they can stop teams on defense.  They will need a win this week to still be a hot stock.  Next game: Virginia

HOLD

Penn State shut out the Akron Zips and should have.   They have a big upside but would like to see them play a solid team first.   They play Pitt this weekend who barely beat YSU this weekend.   Their non-conference schedule is pretty weak.

MSU they beat Bowling Green, but not sure I could name one player on MSU's roster right now.   They have a very dangerous game against Western Michigan on Saturday.

Wisconsin has players come and go and they are always the same type of squad.   They have FAU next Saturday for another easy win.

Iowa played well against a top NFL QB prospect at Wyoming and have a rivalry game against Iowa State next Saturday.

Purdue played well against a ranked Louisville team and all most pulled out the win.   This is progress for this program and could be a buy later in the year.  Purdue plays Ohio on Friday.

SELL

Illinois continues to struggle as Lovie Smith tries to rebuild this program.  They barley beat Ball State on Saturday and will play a dangerous Western KY team this weekend.

Minnesota wants to row the boat but barley got past Buffalo, it will be awhile before this program is where it wants to be.  This week they have Oregon State who will be playing their 3rd game of the year.

Rutgers showed some life against Washington early but went Rutgers in the end.  They have EMU this weekend.  I wouldn't recommend watching that one.

Nebraska vs. Arkansas State went down to the final play.   That is pretty scary, you want to know what is more scary then that?   They travel to Oregon this weekend.   The ESPN predictor has the Ducks winning this game with a 87% confidence rate.

Northwestern struggled against Nevada at home and didn't look good doing it.   They play the SAT Bowl at Duke this weekend.  We will see what the Wildcats look like on the road.

Have a great Labor Day everyone!!

Michigan victory over Florida was quite satisfying... we own them 5-0, not bad!

Some folks do not like the "banana look" uniforms, but what a target for the quarterback. The winged helmet was designed for player recognition (food for thought) Would demand using them against "white out" at Penn St vs. all that white.

Bo was a great Coach, but Harbaugh is already operating on a higher plane then Bo ever could (although Bo was winningest coach in the 70"s)

My bucket list includes Michigan being a dynasty, like USC was, Miami. and Florida State. Be nice to be as good as Alabama ( the ultimate dynasty), maybe ever.

To lose 10 starters on defense, and play like that is unbelievable!
