Michigan Doesn't Peter Out - They Peters In

Michigan quarterback Brandon Peters throws a pass in
John Grelick, Det News
It seems like I have had this feeling already this year. A back-up QB enters the game and give the Michigan offense life when it looked lifeless.

It was O'Korn at Purdue but this time it was Peters over Rutgers at the Big House.  JOK couldn't have played any worse to start the game,  he threw a terrible pick, fumbled two snaps, and completed 3 balls for 13 yards.

Lets be honest, Brandon Peters didn't light the world on fire but a strong running game with his 124 yards passing was enough to knock out Rutgers.   What he did do was look confident in the pocket,  threw an accurate ball, and moved the Michigan offense.   The real stars of the game was both lines.

The O line was got two Michigan RB's over 100 yards and 334 yards on offense with no sacks.
The defensive line had 5 sacks, 11 TFL's and held Rutgers to 94 yards rushing.

Yes, it was Rutgers and yes it got a little weird when it was 7-7 but lets hope this was a glimpse of Michigan's future.  Peters will have some redshirt freshman moments but from what we saw today he sure looked comfortable under center.

Cheers
  • Brandon Peters
  • 2 Michigan RB's over 100 yards
  • Michigan offensive line!
  • Michigan Defensive line
  • Solid play calling when Peters got in the game
  • Kareem Walker looked really good
  • Devin "The Missile" Bush with 11 tackles
  • Gary and Hurst were un-blockable
Jeers
  • Slow start
  • Terrible play call on 2nd and 18 early
  • 7-7 in 2nd Quarter
  • Injuries to Big Mike and Kareem Walker
  • Losing the turnover battle
  • Couple bad penalties

We need to be careful knighting Peters but I liked how steady he looked.  He didn't play nervous and seemed confident out there.  Maybe his quiet personality and his presumed lack of leadership, actually translate well on the field because he doesn't get rattled.

Michigan took care of business today and maybe we have seen the QB of the future.  Jimmy has already named him the starter for next weeks night game for the Little Brown Jug.   Let's hope Jimmy has a couple 7:30 practices this week to get the Wolverines ready for another night game.

First off I’m glad we won...look at Florida and Florida st...No games are guaranteed..This win was a great breath of fresh air...the fact that Friday night our highest rated recruit canceled his family visit and essentially ended his commitment..really put a damper on Saturday..Add in O’Korns start of the game..plus the pick..Peters came in the game..looked poised and confident and we won the game..I have a good feeling for the rest of the games on schedule...but that Ohio State game, after what they did to Penn State looks like quite the challenge for us..There were rumours all day about Jimmy wanting Dylan to be our starter next year and essentially pushing Peters to transfer..Now it looks like it will be quite the battle next spring for starting QB..

Who cancelled?

Let not get ahead of ourselves. Remember the John Okorn Purdue game and how that new qb change turned out. I hope Peter's doesn't peter out. I'm very optimistic though.

Peters looked good. He had nice touch on his passes, and the near interception, I think was a miscommunication more than a bad pass. Perry stopped on his route and Peters threw as if he was to cut the middle. At any rate he looked about as good as he could have in his first real game time.

What the fuck were they thinking, running a 4th and 1 with anyone other than Hill? Jezus H. Christ!

PSU really coughed up a win in the shithole, that sucked!

Things are looking up for Michigan!

Ohio State is proving they are still a juggernaut!

Michigan State lost a close one (yeah!)

State of Florida was untouchable in the 90's, and Miami squeaked out a victory over a poor team, by one point, or the State of Florida would of been 0-3!

Rich Rod won a big game, could we have done that? Rich is having a good season, got miss treated here by a goon squad (old coaches and Detroit free press > caused the Hokey debacle.

We have a chance to win over Wisc. and Ohio State... a chance!

Rich Rod got mistreated here by the goon squad? LOL!!! He was the worst hire in the history of Michigan football and the man that hired him, Bill Martin, was an idiot for that one reason only. I refer to the RR era as the Michigan Dark Ages. I'm glad that he left town and it wasn't soon enough.

If RR was a bad hire how come none of the old coaches, etc tried to stop it? Rumor was parinoid Lloyd befriended him to come then dropped him like a hot apple after the hire. Didn't want RR out shine him.

Cormac said...

Really? I heard the opposite that LC didn't want him to come to AA. If, in your opinion, RR was such a great hire why isn't he still here? The man couldn't spell defense even if someone gave him a dictionary. LC didn't have to worry about RR outshining him. He's a crap coach, at least at Michigan as his 15-22 record shows. Btw, LC was the only "old" coach that might have opposed RR's hire.

Pick on Ol' rich all you want, but he has won a Pac 12 championship, and we are still sucking hind titty-bo!

RR is twice the coach Hoke will ever be. The difference is Hoke is a "Michigan Man" who could only win with RR's kids. RR's record improved every year, Brady's record was the opposite.
All the ney sayers will tell you spread option football won't work in the big ten, yet that's exactly what osu plays and they've done pretty well.

There was plenty of blame on both sides in the RR tenure. He didn't do enough to learn and embrace the history and culture, but the 'old guard' didn't help or support him at all. Read "Three and Out" if you haven't already.

At any rate..... There is a glimmer of hope in the Big House, we'll see if BP looks as good against the Gophers at night as he did against the scarlet knights during the afternoon.

LC didn't want him to be more successful that's why he got him there then got all the old guard to oppose him at every turn. I believe LC also got in the way of the Les Miles hire. And where did I say he was a great hire?

Scott K said...

It wasn't that Lloyd wanted RR, it was that Lloyd wanted ANYONE other than Les. Then as soon as RR was hired, Lloyd told players that they should transfer if they thought they didn't fit RR's type of football. DICK MOVE!

Cormac said...

Wow, we got ourselves a genuine RR fan! I'll pick on a 15-22 record all day long. So will anyone else who is honest.

Whoever said anything about Hoke? I never have. Btw, since you are touting RR's record over BH's Hoke's 3 yr record is 26-13 vs. 15-22. RR went 9th, 10th, and 7th. BH went 2nd, 2nd, and 5th.

OSU may run it, but it didn't work here and that's what is important. The culture shock was too much. No thanks for the reading tip. RR would have never fit in. He was a square peg in Michigan's round hole. He was an experiment that never should have been conducted.

He was and still is a lousy coach.

I guess you could consider the fact that RR is winning in AZ and Brady was fired from his last two jobs and is about to be fired from his current job, but what does that matter?

And again.... Brady's only good season was his first, with RR's team.

I don't consider myself a RR fan, but I do think he's a good guy and a good coach. Brady might be a good guy and a "Michigan Man" but a good coach he isn't.

Who gives a damn about DickRod! All I care is that he left town.

I thought this thread was about BP? Talk about off subject!

Btw, we agree that Hoke wasn't a good coach. You brought up RR.

Well said Scott K...

Holy smokes... the number of posts! You think this was MGOBLOG.

Does this require a WWE cage style match-up? Although it's 3 to 1 against Cormac... really need 2-2 even match!
