Wolverine Wednesday: It's Transfer Season

The regular season is over and bowl practices don't start for a few weeks.   So players have to go to class and be a regular student athlete for a few weeks.   It gives players a lot of time to think about what their future looks like.

Michigan already lost their starting QB from the start of the year to a graduate transfer and now two more players have also decided to play elsewhere.

Drake Harris who came to Michigan with a ton of instate hype as a 4 star WR never really made an impact as injuries pretty much de-railed his career in Ann Arbor.   He has decided to try to play somewhere else next year and I hope his body will allow him to do that.    Drake will graduate from Michigan and do the graduate transfer thing and be able to play next year.

Freshman JaRaymond Hall has also decided to transfer from the program.  This one was a bit surprising (because he has only been A2 for a short time) but I'm sure JaRaymond saw himself behind current guys like Chuck Filiaga, Andrew Stueber, Joel Honigford, and James Hudson and wanted a shorter route to the field.   Hudson playing on the offensive line was a bit of a surprise and reports are he is doing very well.  Sam Webb is saying he is looking at Iowa State or RR at Arizona.   If he has already two schools targeted this has been in the works for weeks.

Michigan currently has 15 spots open for the 2018 class.  So expect probably 5-6 more guys transferring or hanging up their cleats.

Update: JaRay has at least temporarily changed his mind and says he is still part of the Michigan Football program.  Since we need non-stop transfer news: Alex Malzone has made it official that he is transferring.  Fun times!

  • ESPN's McMurphy is saying that Michigan is a lock for the Outback Bowl, probably against South Carolina.   That of course would be a re-match in the Outback Bowl and counter to the reports that Michigan would be headed to San Diego for the Holiday Bowl.

  • Speaking of transfer season, Minnesota starting QB Demry Croft is transferring because he was suspended for damaging a door during the year, that he says didn't happen.  Croft started the last 6 games for the Golden Gophers.

  • West Bloomfield 2019 OLB Lance Dixon has been offered as a Viper at Michigan.

  • Michigan plays North Carolina in the Dean Dome tonight.

  • I'm sure Michigan continues to have FL OT Nicholas Petit-Frere very high on their board for the 2018 class.  NP-F visited A2 this weekend.

  • Herm Edwards is going to interview at Arizona State.

  • Some Michigan fans were hoping that Mississippi State would do the Wolverines a favor and hire Pep Hamilton.  I think they did Wolverine fans a even bigger favor by hiring PSU OC Joe Moorhead as head coach.

I like the possibility of the Outback Bowl for Michigan for the obvious reasons (New Years day, Nine wins,). My question is does "Lock" mean that it is signed, sealed and delivered or just a gentlemen's agreement that could change?

I loved Herm Edwards as a player, and he was very knowledgeable as a pro coach, however, he may be more successful as a college coach if given time. Lovie Smith was a proven pro coach and is struggling in college, but if he had the players I have no doubt that he would be successful. I wonder if more schools are trying to bring more ex-pro coaches into college ball to help with recruiting? IMHO!!!
