Michigan Friday: Big Recruiting Weekend Could Bring Big Results

We know the 3 Rebels will be on campus for a visit.  It seems that Shea Patterson is a lock and even some insiders are reporting he is already in the Michigan's Active Directory.   "Moving" Van Jefferson and Deontay Anderson are also expected to pull the trigger on a Michigan commitment.  My expectation is all 3 will be enrolled in January, but I haven't heard any details on when they will be getting to Ann Arbor officially.

Another insider is expecting 1 more commitment this weekend as well.   Here are my best guesses:

Top Guess:   2018 Athlete Michael Barrett.  Mike is rated as a 3 star athlete as he is a 5'11 218 pound dual-threat in GA.  He is expected to play RB or LB at Michigan.   His offer list includes: GA Tech, MSU, Tennessee, LSU, Memphis, UCF, Maryland, South Carolina and many more.

Next Best Guess: 4 star 2018 OT Jarrett Patterson, who just de-committed from "You Play To Win The Game".   Jarrett is planning to visit UCLA next weekend, even though he has been out there already.   With the numbers being tight in the 2018 class, Could Michigan could get two Patterson's this weekend?

If Michigan pulls this Ole Miss transfer situation off and all 3 become eligible for next season, this could be the college equivalent of the NFL Cowboys - Viking trade of Hershel Walker.  Stay tuned.

  • Big Mo is considering sitting out the Outback Bowl.  Can't blame the big man at all.  I would love to see him play one more time and it sounds like he got an insurance policy, but it was heart breaking watching Jake Butt tear his ACL in the Orange Bowl last year.  That one play cost Jake a couple of rounds and his rookie year in the NFL.

  • Nik Stauskas was traded to the Nets last night.  He will get to play with Caris again.

  • Instate 4 star OT Antwan Reed de-committed from PSU last night.  Michigan doesn't seem to be interested at this point.

  • Big Mo and the Missile were named to the Walter Camp second All American team.

My best stab at the recruiting numbers to date. We have 62 underclassmen eligible to return. This does not include any possible 5 year returns...

If only 3 come back for a 5th year (Winovich, Mone & Watson) that number goes to 65...

That leaves 20 open spots for incoming players and the possible transfers...

Assuming all 3 Ole Miss players transfer which sounds highly likely (Patterson, Anderson and Jefferson) the scholarship number goes to 68 leaving 17 spots for incoming class...

We currently have 16 commits which would mean if they all stick (Only Reese concerns me) we can only take 1 more HS player.

Alot of what if's but that's basically what we have.

The numbers (whatever they are) don't lie. However, if they are even close to being accurate, then what it tells me is that the coaches know more about more guys that are leaving the program than has been made public. Since Harbaugh said that we have to get better because we're currently not good enough, then whatever move he makes will hopefully make us "good enough." IMHO!!!

Most national recruiting analysts say Patterson is a done deal.... Nothing official yet that I see...
