Michigan Thursday: Jimmy Speaks and No Spring Game

We don't love the Spring Game for the action or the great game play, we love it because we love Michigan Football and we get an early look at the Maize and Blue in the Big House. It's just a little taste before September, when Michigan starts the season on the road.   How does that keep happening?  That is a rant for another day.

We love it for glimpses of new QB's and new position players.  It was magical when Tate Forcier was hitting Roy Roundtree for long touchdown passes.   We hope that something fun happens so we can be excited about a TE or LB for the entire summer.

Due to weather and injuries, the Wolverines have shut down Saturday's scrimmage or public practice.   I hope the BTN gets some practice coverage, so at least we can see Shea throw a couple throws to DPJ and Tarik Black.

We will see.

Jimmy spoke on the Big Ten conference call and had a few call outs:

"Individual players that are asserting themselves, that are going to find a lot more playing time -- as you can see it in spring practice, you get very excited about them. Probably the No. 1 guy who's in that position of really having a great spring is Mike Dwumfour, defensive tackle, Ambry Thomas, defensive corner, and Josh Ross, inside linebacker -- those three I would highlight on the defensive side of the ball.

"And, offensively, again, just staying with guys that are poised to have a good season. Contributed some last year, but expect a bigger role this year -- the receiving corps is really coming on fast. Tarik Black is back up to to speed. Donovan Peoples-Jones continues to be an improving, ascending player -- very good. Nico Collins -- there's a name for you. Really doing a great job. Tough blocking and making tough catches. Oliver Martin is asserting himself on the scene, as well as Nate Schoenle. Another improving, ascending player -- Nick Eubanks, doing a fantastic job.

  • Speaking of injuries - Aubrey Solomon had a appendectomy yesterday.  I'm sure that will keep him out of football activities for a number of weeks.   I hope he can still make the European trip at the end of the month.

While discussing the offense he only mentions positions players? I hope he discussed his satisfaction with the line, but it just wasn't mentioned in BHB.

My biggest concern on Michigan teams for several years now (as I suspect with most) is the offensive line. His lack of citing even one player is very disconcerting.
