Wolverine Wednesday: Where Will Mo Go?

The NFL Draft 1st round kicks off tomorrow in Dallas.   Michigan's only hope for a first rounder is defensive tackle Mo Hurst.  During the year Pro Football Focus couldn't stop talking about Mo and expected him to be a top 10 pick.   Then the NFL combine happened and NFL doctors found an irregular electrocardiogram reading.  Big Mo decided to not participate in the combine and went back to Michigan for further testing.   He has now be cleared and ready to get drafted.

With his heart condition and maybe not participating in the combine, there has been little to no buzz about Mo.  He is not going in the top 10 and maybe not even in the first round.  Mel Kiper has a high second round grade on him and Todd McShay has him as a late first round or early second round position.   CBS Sports has 3 mock drafts and only one has him in the first round.

So Thursday might be a long day for the 6'1 293 pound defensive tackle from Michigan.  If scouts watched tape from last year they would have seen a player that deserves a first round grade.  He is very quick off the ball and will spend a ton of time in the backfield.   He has been coached his entire time at Michigan by Greg Mattison which should account for something as well.  He is NFL ready! I'm very confident that Mo will be a very good NFL player if he stays healthy.

Good luck Big Mo!

  • 2019 CB from GA DJ Turner enjoyed his last visit to A2 and was really impressed by the academics.

  • Michigan and ND are on top for 2019 St. Louis athlete Kyren Williams

  • I think Ohio commit Gabe Newburg brought his entire extended family up for a visit to Ann Arbor last weekend, which is really cool!
