Wolverine Wednesday: Coach B Is Staying and Two Football Players Seem To Be Leaving

John Beilien announced on twitter that he is staying at Michigan.  Reports are that they are finalizing a new contract that would extend his current deal two more years for a total of 5 years.   His raise would pay him right around the $4M mark a year.

He did not receive an offer from the Pistons and reports are that he pulled himself out of consideration, then vice versa.  That should help a bit with recruiting and Michigan's basketball profile.

As we predicted (along with the rest of the internet), the two names that have reportedly left the program are running back Kareem Walker and WR Kekoa Crawford.

Both players came in with high expectations and neither lived up to the hype.  Kareem struggled with school work during his freshman year and I believe even missed some practice time to focus on school work during his red shirt year.  It seems he never could regain momentum with the team after that.  He had a few nagging injuries and never cracked the RB depth chart.   When he did get in the game, he showed some flashes of greatness but never got more then a few snaps at the end of games.

Crawford is another story, he had a ton of chances and playing time but struggled to get separation and didn't win many 50/50 balls.   To give me a break,  he didn't have Tom Brady and Drew Henson throwing to him, but it was starting to become clear that the young WR core was going to be taking his snaps next season.    Leaving is a bit of a shame as we all believe Michigan now has a QB that could get him the ball.

Please note, these transfers are not official yet and come from a journalist out of Toledo.  Either way, its a sad day when talent leaves the team, but it was pretty clear to everyone that both players were not rising up the depth chart and probably were heading the other way.

  • 2020 OT 5 Star from Oak Park Justin Rodgers left Michigan and MSU off his top 13 list.   Ok, plenty of time left before signing day 2020.
