I Don't Care

You shouldn't either.

This wasn't Michigan, this was Michigan's 3rd and 4th team players on defense.   At one point, I wondered if Michigan was going to have enough guys on defense to finish the game.

After Michigan left 10 points off the board on the first half and the pick in the end zone to start the second half, it was over and everyone knew it.

Bowl games aren't about the better team, its which team wants to be there.   Michigan lost this game before they even left Ann Arbor.   Florida wanted to play and Michigan didn't.   It was just the opposite in the Citrus Bowl a few years ago.

I really don't know how these games are beneficial to anyone.   If you traveled to the game and spent thousands on travel costs and tickets, I feel for you.   Been there, done that.   Never again.

Cheers:

  • Christian Turner looks legit
Jeers:
  • I'm sorry but Don Brown needs to go back to defense school.   If you have time to prepare for his defense you can pick it apart.   I know he was under manned today but his defense has given up 100 points the last two games.   That is not the #1 defense in the nation or even a good defense.

  • Michigan's offense is predictable and bad.  They give away one down to the defense every 4 downs.   Where are all these plays we have heard about?

  • Shea won a lot of games for Michigan this year but he played poorly today.

  • Jimmy has to start believing in another offensive philosophy.   His way of doing things is outdated and I don't believe Michigan can be elite with it.  Michigan has the best set of WR's maybe ever and he isn't aggressive at all.

Thank goodness we are a basketball school.  They play at noon on Sunday.

I wonder if coach Harbaugh will sing for coach brown now?

We have good play makers in the offense and we need to utilize them. We are a 1 dimensional team on offense. Our secondary is horrible! No speed at all! So disappointing to watch this team today. Coach Harbaugh really needs to wake up and make some changes now!

1st your right..thank god we are a basketball school now..There are so many things to say...I just want Jimmy to say that the QB competition is OPEN..our WR’s are elite and need the ball...If Zack is as good as I see then I believe all will fix...Don Brown will be motivated to be better..I’m sure his almost leaving to coach elsewhere had his focus..I’m not calling for Jimmy to leave.but next year we are home to Notre Dame, Michigan st, and Ohio state..WE BETTER be at least perfect at home or else... or we accept we will always finish outside top 4 and get used to it

I am actually glad this game turned out the way it did. All the areas of concerns were exposed (again). Now it is obvious Michigan moves on from Pep Hamilton. His play calling rivals a middle school team. And what is up with the clock management? I am not completely down on Shea but do think it should be an open QB competition next season.

Bold Wish list: Hire Bobby Petrino as the Offense coordinator.

Shae is lucky he’s not going for the draft this year, after that performance. He seems like a nice kid, and wish him the best. But I’m fingers crossed that Dylan era is starting. It’s fair but easy to say our D (specifically backfield) blew it today. But when you have zero offensive Mo and really don’t care about the game... maybe we were lucky with the result.
My vote, for whenever the NCAA asks... get rid of the bowls and switch to an 8 game playoff starting early Dec. Too much time lapses between season end and now, anyway.

The bowl games absolutely need to go or be converted to playoff games.

Coach Harbaugh just said he doesn't expect any changes to the staff. Wtf coach! Are you watching the same games we are?

What really disappointed me was not seeing guys like Mcgrone, Gray, Mayfield and Thomas. Yeah Thomas was in at the end, but during meaningful time, he wasn't out there. I could care to see Furbush, Glasgow, Watson, Perry or any other 5 year Sr that played their last game for M! I saw all I needed of Jon Runyan Jr. He can't pass block to save his life. Yeah Stueber on the other side struggled, but I'd rather see guys that will be suiting up next season than guys that will either be in the NFL or packing groceries next year. It's one thing to get stomped in a glorified exhibition, but its another to not use this game as a jump start to see what you'll be working with next season!

Once again Don Brown looked bad against an athletic offense and the Offensive play calling sucked! Jim hire an effing OC and step aside and let them call the game.

Bob, in your bowl preview Tale of the Tape, you listed Michigan as having a "coaching advantage". I did not see any coaching advantage today, more like a coaching disadvantage. Time to stop drinking the blue kool-aid. I expect more from a coach making a salary of $7 MM a year.

Goblu said...

Being fixated about his salary is really missing the point, Alex. If the coach is paid $1 or $1m, he needs to make the right calls, employ the right assistants, and scheme to his available players.

There was a time when the service academies were the Alabama's of college football. Now you don't even hear about them except an occasional decent season. Afraid that's where UM is. Under Jimmy, it'll be a good team year in year out but it's not going to be elite. Look at the teams in the playoffs, even the Domers who are getting annihilated are on a whole different plane than UM. Never thought I'd see a Saban team that passes so much....but he adjusted to the game and that's why he's elite. UM won't adjust. Sears never really adjusted either and it's now bankrupt. Maybe Jimmy is an NFL coach after all and not meant for college.

It pains me greatly to admit this, but if Urban the Cryer had this UM roster, he would be in the playoffs this year.

Could be worse. We could have played Clemson or A!! Wow, they just play a diff game. Their depth is just insane.

Didn't someone on here want Lincoln Rily? Tell me again how great he is.

Goose—- nice memory!! Ha :)

Stop making excuses. Don Brown and Harbaugh were like deer in the headlights. The team's body language was negative and they appeared to be going through the motions. Best thing to happen at UM is Harbaugh goes back to the pros, Brown gets a head coaching gig and Patterson graduates. McCafferty and Milton are the future but as long as Harbaugh is there that won't happen. Replace RT and LT they were beat like drums, very sad!

Total disfunction, both sides of the ball were unwatchable. You can run slants against that D all day long and gain big chunks. The offense lacks any misdirection, it is predictable and bland. I need a break from this terrible team. Just aweful...

EzmoB said...

Makes you wonder if coach Harbaugh is starting to wear his welcome out? The players did rally around him and told him they had his back.

2 people showed up today to play. Khaleke Hudson and chase everyone else just coasted.

We need a real OC and coach Harbaugh needs to stay away from play calling.

EzmoB said...

How much do we miss not being able to land Najee Harris and AJ Dillon as RB's. Both turned out to be studs.

Chowman said...

We get the recruits I just don't see Harbaugh and co. doing much with them. How long will it be before highly touted recruits start shunning Harbaugh's program because of lack of development. Look at Gary. He was ok, but I think everybody expected more for the #1 overall recruit. Now Devin Bush did develop, but how much of that was him wanting to excel? For every Winnovich and Bush, how many Gary's and Solomon's are there?

Huge defensive let down. Brown needs to be on the hot seat.

The defense, especially in the 2nd half, was a turd. The tackling in the 2nd half sucked and it’s pretty clear to me that Brown can’t adapt. Back to back games with zero adjustments when there are massive holes is pathetic.

Spread Michigan wide and a) run the QB or b) throw slants because Michigan won’t adapt to stop them because of a weird obsession with man coverage. When playing against a team that like to run the QB and or has elite speed on the outside zone needs to be the base coverage.

I think Don Brown will become an insomniac after the last two games.

The overall offensive approach was decent. I think there were a few too many inside runs and terrible time management. They need to stop running Evans up the middle. He’s best utilized as a receiver out of the backfield and for trick plays.

It was nice to see some pistol and a good amount of 3 and 4 wide shotgun formations. A little more RPO would have been nice. If we could get that 3rd drive of the game for 80%+ of the drives that would be awesome.

They have 3 NFL caliber WRs (Collins, Peoples-Jones, and Black), 3 dynamic athletes (Bell and Evans), 2 solid backs (Turner and Wilson), and an OL that’s decent and improving …they need more consistency at QB and a 60-40 pass to run ratio with a lot of pistol and or 3 or 4 wide formations.

There needs to be a QB competition for next season. Patterson isn’t consistent enough to be given the job. There were some WTF moments from him in this game…What was with that throw on 4th and 15 with 2:18 to go? How can an upper classman be so terrible with time management? How can an upper classman get a delay of game on the first play after a kick off?

The best unit was special teams. Good work special teams.

I'm not too hyped about shea coming back. I really wanted to see Dylan run the offense. The times he did play, he was poised and in control of the offense. He has a stronger arm than Shea. He reads the D better, his check downs are better and he can drop a dime plus he can run. I hope coach Harbaugh opens up the QB competition. Our LB's need to be faster and so does our secondary. Coach brown needs to draw up zone defense next year.

Overall it wasn't the ending we wanted but that's how the cookie crumbles at times. We learned our weaknesses now we can address them. I'm proud of our boys, proud of our university. Looking to see more Michigan men in the NFL.

Coach Harbaugh needs to be better next year, he needs to hold his assistant accountable and maybe make an example out of one if need be. Our hardest games are gone hands next year and we must defend home at all cost.

Go blue!

Temple job just opened up again. Wonder if they will call coach brown? We maybe in the market for new OC and DC. Todd bowls is avaliable for DC lol.

This sitting out crap only started a few years ago. At what point in the season do you start sitting out if your team doesn't have a chance to go to any sort of championship? Yes Jake butt got hurt in the bowl game. But he also said he would do it again if it was given the chance.
As far as the bowl games being meaningless. Ive watched a lot of bowl games over the years and every team that won seemed pretty happy about being the champion of that bowl. I remember for years and years the Rose Bowl being a source of Pride for the Michigan team even though there was nothing more on the line than being the champion of the Rose Bowl. I was at the Peach Bowl and believe me the Florida players and fans seem pretty happy about winning that bowl game. I don't think it was meaningless to them. The Mercedes-Benz stadium was a pretty cool place and I met a few Florida fans that seemed like they're pretty cool as well. I don't think the vibe for this bowl game was that good coming out of the Michigan camp. But you know damn well they wanted to win that game as bad as anybody. I don't think anybody on this message board can say that that team quit. They don't know.
