Michigan Thursday: Donovan Edwards and Michigan

Donovan Edwards is the #2 RB in the country and a high 4 star prospect on 24/7.   He also lives in-state (#1 player in Michigan) and plays his football at West Bloomfield.   He has offers from all the top programs and should be the top recruit on the Wolverines board.

Having such a highly rated RB in-state is pretty rare and Michigan has been recruiting Donovan for a long time.  Many Wolverine fans have been watching this recruitment very closely and there was even an OSU scare earlier in the year (before the Buckeyes took commitments from 2 RB's).

Donovan says his recruitment is still open and that Michigan is a player in that recruitment.  I had believed that until I read this Detroit News article this morning:

Edwards said he’s been a fan of Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan State while growing up, and he has teammates from West Bloomfield – linebacker Cornell Wheeler and safety Makari Paige – who will be playing this fall at Michigan.

While Edwards wasn’t a Michigan fan growing up, he is a fan of the program now, especially with his former teammates following the footsteps of his West Bloomfield coach, Ron Bellamy, to the Wolverines. Bellamy played for Lloyd Carr at Michigan from 1999-2002.

Donovan continues in the article talking about how it would be cool to play with friends at Michigan.  If that is the only reason your considering U of M,  then he probably isn't coming to Ann Arbor.

He wasn't a Michigan fan growing up, was a fan of Michigan's rivals, almost committed to OSU, and wants to see a bunch of other school across the nation.    I could be wrong but that doesn't seem like a winning combination on getting the state's #1 player to commit.   My best guess is he heads out of state to a football power.

Hope I'm wrong.

See this puzzling to me. He is the #2 rated RB in the country, #1 in the state of Michigan but only a 4 star overall. Something is off kilter here.

That’s why this 4 and 5 star thing is very frustrating to me... I don’t want that guy.... RBs...dime a dozen... get a O line and you have great RBs

I agree with Cmfgo... build that line baby! And I guess with stock market down, we won't hear from TitanMan. So on his behalf, "fire Don and Jim."

GoBlue you are wrong my friend..
I said I cashed out on my position yesterday.... nothing goes up forever eventually it must come down.... I don't think you read yesterday's post.... anyways Donovan Edward if that guy's smart he would go to Alabama or Oklahoma hopefully start for maybe a year or two go to NFL... last 1000 yard Runner we had Higdon he did not even get drafted.... maybe open up a small position see how the market react tomorrow

That's what I love about that douche. He hopes for four star rated players to go to other programs, but then bitches when they don't come to Michigan. Or should I say he hopes I don't go to Michigan.

If UMich hadn't made an impression he might have well committed elsewhere already. If this drags on it may take root with all the benefits of being close to home and the prospect of being a tackling dummy behind the bottom dwelling o-line of MSU.

Just had most of the O Line drafted into the NFL with the only other player looking like an early round draftee for next year....struggling to think it's the o line keeping the ground game grounded. The RBs have been good, just not difference makers. Put Dobbins behind UM's line and I think you'd have seen a difference. Have to add the QB to the mix though; Shea just didn't give Ds enough to worry about on the pass so they challenged the run. Jimmy gets solid recruiting classes however, the level of talent that has left the state the last few years is bewildering. Got to win those home battles and pick off a few of the best from other states as well.

Yes things would have been very different for Dobbins... he would not have been drafted as high, or at all if he had played for Michigan...if he had played for MSU he may have been injured... Barry Sanders is a “difference maker”.....Emitt Smith is “good”, We have yet to see on JK... he may be special... but I know his o line always was....

The thing that worries me is that Hoke won with rich rods players, then harbust won with hoke's players, it's a cycle of michigan's coaching staff not being able to develop players. every good ass. coach we get leaves after a year or two because they cant tolerate harbust and his outdated coaching and ego. players regress under this staff, but harbust keeps promoting his inept son jay who is not a running backs coach. this is why we can't recruit top end talent at running back. Harbust idea of speed in space is four tightends and five fullbacks in the game. time for a fresh modern coach who understands todays football !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
