Michigan Tuesday: Profile Caleb Houstan

Detroit News

Michigan's first 5 star commit in the 2021 class came from Caleb Houstan a 6-7, 190-pound Small Forward from Montverde, FL.   Juwan has been doing work in Florida at IMG and  The Montverde Academy, which are 2 huge breading grounds for elite basketball players.

Caleb is also the second "international player" in this class, if you consider Canada international.   Here is ESPN's take on Caleb's game:

At 6-foot-8, Houstan has excellent size for a small forward with a versatile offensive skill set and is considered one of the best perimeter shooters in the high school game. He was the second-leading scorer at the 2019 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, averaging 23 points in 29 minutes per game and ranking among the top players at the event in both made 3-pointers and free throw attempts. His Canada team went 5-1, losing in the championship game to the United States.

24/7 rank: #8 in the country

ESPN Rank: #10

Rivals: #11

Per Caleb on signing day: "Early on in the process, I knew there was something different about Michigan and the coaching team there. I am excited to play for coach (Juwan) Howard and to be part of the culture that he is creating -- it is something that I knew I wanted to be part of. The entire coaching and development team and the players have all reached out and welcomed me to the Michigan family. I know Michigan is going to help me immensely both on and off the court and I can't wait to get down to Ann Arbor and get to work with my guys."

Caleb's high school coach and ESPN above calls him one of the best shooters in high school basketball which I believes leads him to play the Livers role in Juwan's offense.  His length and shooting should be a match-up problem for this expected one and done forward.  I think he will become a good defender and more of a dribble drive guy after some time in Michigan's S&C program.

Just another great example of Juwan building something special in the Crisler Center.
