Michigan Friday: Program's Next Steps

Michigan Football took one step back during this shorten season.  But sometimes you have to take one step back to go two steps forward. Warde and Jimmy finally got around to discussing his future on Thursday.   He is not going to be fired and Jimmy has publicly said he is committed to Michigan.  With that said, the NFL season is not over and they won't be filling head coaches vacancy for another few weeks.

We all are waiting for the next steps.  Which led me to this post of trying to predict, what is next for this program and the momentum they gained on Wednesday.

  • Jimmy signs some type of extension.  My best guess is a 5-6 year deal

  • Major changes on the defensive side of the ball.   I believe Don Brown is done and maybe his entire staff.   I would like them to keep Brian Jean-Mary as he is proved to be very good recruiter in Florida.  But not sure they will take my advice.

  • There has been some chatter around Penn State's Co-DC Tim Banks.  He is from Detroit (MLK HS) played and coached at Central Michigan.   Strong recruiter and has pulled a ton of instate talent to Happy Valley.   A bunch of Michigan's football staff started to follow Tim on twitter recently.  Seems like a smart choice.

  • The offensive coaches stay intact for the most part.  Maybe one staff change on that side of the ball.

  • Holes on defense which there are many.  CB and DT are the most urgent.  Michigan will have to look to February for options to sign new guys or hit the transfer portal.   Rumors are swirling that instate 4 star DT Rayshaun Benny might be trending back towards Ann Arbor.

  • Michigan gets 11 or 12 early enrollee's next month, who will be available for Spring Ball.  Look for JJ to compete for the starting QB job.

That is my best guess and something I would like to see happen sooner rather then later.

  • MSU - Maryland football game has been cancelled on Saturday.

  • Quick question for the BHB Inmates - If Clemson wins on Saturday, does that mean ND makes the playoffs and we could see them play 3 times? How is that an option?

  • Remember when Belleville's OG Dobbs and CB Barrett picked Michigan State?  Both are in the transfer portal with LB Fulton.

If the N.D. Clemson game is close then yes N.D. gets in with a loss if Clemson wins by more than 14 no N.D. is left out.

I agree. If close and ND loses I think they are in. They will have to take a one loss team and their resume would be as strong as anyone's at this moment.

I have to travel to visit family over Christmas break. I love this blog, can anyone help me...how can I read it when I leave? Can someone email me a copy? I am so confused....thanks in advance.

If JH gets another 5-6 year deal that means 5-6 years of mediocre football, at best. This is the only year he hasn't lost to OSU. The string will continue in 2021. Can hardly wait.

An interesting take...this year in the SEC they completed 69 of 71 scheduled games 97%. The university of Michigan alone didnt do as well as the entire sec.

Early in the season Greg Sankey the sec commissioner stated that they will search out reasons to play as opposed to finding reasons not to. You wonder why elite football talent flocks to sec country. This is one reason they want to play. They make playing a priority. They put a high emphasis on football. It extends further than money and facilities. It's in the realm of religion in the south. God Guns & Football. I love the south.

I agree keep the linebackers coach Brian jean-mary yes he is a good recruiter and he's only been here one year and a covid-19 year at that.. getting Tim Banks would be great

Tim hilarious comment.

BucknutGirl, no one is saying what you were saying. People here say interesting and thoughtful things. You just speak you Columbus crap, and end it with “scarlet for life”. I’ll stop reacting to you, as you are a bore.

I say we try to get Durkin back as our DC, yea he had what he had at MD but I would give him a shot. He is a proven DC and he can recruit. Offense side bring jedd fish back. Our offense under him was great, no reason to recruit pro style QB’s to run spread offense. Power play with little mix of RPO. Cade I think will be the starter next year.

Bob any update on DMC? I think Milton will transfer, he needs to be gone.

He went on a "business" trip and when he returned he spent two hours reading old comments. But could turn off his interest like a switch on his "business" trip. What a douche. Hahaha. Sounds like mom took his internet away for wetting the bed too much.

Sooo, notre dame lays an egg as usual. OVERRATED.

While that may be true, there was no way Clemson wanted to / was going to, get beat again. They were motivated to prove a point that ND only beat them was because Lawrence was out the first time. Lawrence probably wanted to have a say so too. IMHO...

Not so fast there Goose, look who got in. Unbelievable!!!!

I was pretty shocked, I definitely don’t follow the committee’s logic on that one.
Honestly though, who outside of the state of Alabama or South Carolina wants to watch any of those games?
Bama destroys ND
Clemson beats osu ( the Buckeyes annual beat down)
Then a repeat of what feels like the last 10 national championship games. No thanks.
