Michigan Tuesday: Coach B's Next Move?

The Big Ten got 9 teams into the NCAA the rest of the teams are firing or considering a change to their head coaching position.   The Big Ten this year was one of the strongest conferences ever in college basketball and of course the Pandemic.   Not sure this is a great year to make a change.

Either way, both Indiana and Minnesota made moves and let their coaches go.   Penn State which already had an opening, quickly and quietly filled theirs by hiring Purdue assistant Micah Shrewsberry who also has experience on the Boston Celtics staff.

So now the question is, Will Coach Beilein be a candidate for any of these jobs?  He is the best coach without a job and I'm sure he will get some calls.  On the other hand, he is 68 and might be happy working a couple days a week during the season for the Big Ten Network.   Also many programs might be looking for a younger coach that can relate to today's player and recruit 5 stars to the program.   My hope is, he stays in the booth and enjoys his family while being a mentor to Juwan and Michigan's program.   In fact, if John wants a job, I would like him to be the Vice President for Michigan Basketball (Men's and Women's).   I believe both the Football and Basketball programs need a full time person over seeing every aspect of those sports.

Sounds like Alabama head coach Nate Oats, who is a bit of nut and also in Michigan's bracket could be a candidate for IU.  Archie Miller is leaving with $10M still on his contract.

  • G/F Earl Timberlake (no relation to Justin) is leaving Miami after his freshman year.  Earl and Hunter where HS teammates.   No word if Michigan is interested, but probably won't have room mostly if Smith and Brown stay.

It's impressive having 9 teams from the league in, but the number should be 8. Sparty has no business in the Dance. They beat a UM team that had already won the league and was dealing with injuries but other than that....played like trash all year. The Committe gave them an invite based on name alone while some pretty good schools have to stay home.

@Rudy... Sparty got in because they are the only team in the country to beat 3 top 5 teams in the country. No, they are not a good team, but they did win some very notable games. They deserved better than Syracuse. I am Michigan fan by the way
