Michigan Friday: DT Help on The Way?

Oregon State DT Grad Transfer Jordan Whittley is expected to announce this morning on where he will play next season.  JW is 6'2 333 pounds and this would be his 7th year in college.  That isn't a misprint, he signed with San Jose State out of high school in the 2014 class.   Transferred to Oregon State, had some medical issues and now hopefully will spend his last season in the Big House.   Jordan did have a tumor removed near his heart last season but seemingly has been cleared by doctors to continue his football career.

Here is a quote from Beaversedge.com:  "Whittley, who last played in 2019, showed flashes of being a very effective nose tackle for the Beavers as he recorded 14 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss in addition to a quarterback hurry and a pass breakup. However, he struggled to consistently stay on the field before ultimately missing all of 2020."

Michigan really doesn't have anything to lose at this point and needs bodies on the DL.  I doubt Jordan will be a starter but every defensive lineman on the roster is probably going to get plenty of time next season.   If this big man can clog up the middle and let the talented Wolverine LB's make plays, then this will be a worthy gamble.

Fun fact:  Michigan's 2014 recruiting class had members like Jabril Peppers, Drake Harris, Chase Winovich and Mason Cole.

  • The Big House should be at full capacity next season!
  • Will Mohan is transferring to Tennessee to play for BJM

MEH! It's not like Michigan has done all that well with transfers. Jake Ruddock might of been the high water mark. He ended up being better than expected. I know some will argue, but Shea Patterson was a major disappointment. Willie Allen was here long enough to have a glass of kool aid. So forgive me, if I'm underwhelmed by this addition.
