Juwan was struggling with his health, with his players, his staff, and winning games. That was just this past season. In 2021 which doesn't seem that long ago Juwan was the national coach of the year. Now, he is probably headed for an NBA assistant role next season. If he even wants to coach, Juwan made a ton of money in his NBA career and I assume he doesn't need to work and might want to take some time away from the game. <div><br /></div><div>The bottom line is, I don't believe Juwan had the patience for the college game which is changing every year. It used to be about "dirty money" and now its just about money and a difficult admission department. You think Coach B or Jay Wright is interested in jumping back into that mess? I doubt it. Juwan's lack of patience frustrated him and he took it out on opposing coaches and his famous S&C coach. He was lucky to get past one of those incidents, no way he survives both after winning 8 games. </div><div><br /></div><div>Now what? Your guess is as good as mine. I don't watch enough college basketball to assess who would be a good fit. What I do know, is that Michigan should not look at a big name coach. Find the next Coach Beilein. Find a guy that will recruit his ass off and run an offense that is hard to prepare for. Find a coach that can spot talent in the portal and bring coaches that teach defense and sound basketball. </div><div><br /></div><div>This is a football school and always will be a football school. The NIL $$ will flow to Schembechler Hall vs. Crisler Arena (I know its Center). Michigan Football just won a National Championship and the basketball program just won 8 games. Yes, each program is over tilted from where they have been but it's time for a reboot of the Basketball Program. Warde has a ton of leaderships faults, we surmise on the outside looking in. Though I don't think many of us would want to hire a new football coach and basketball coach in Ann Arbor within a couple of months. </div><div><br /></div><div>For those that don't understand the title of this post. Ed Cooley is a friend of Warde's. When Warde was looking to hire a coach after Coach B left. Warde got Ed a raise at Providence by showing interest in hiring his friend, when he knew all along he was going to hire Juwan. Ed is now at Georgetown. </div><div><br /></div><div>Juwan's recruits in the NBA:</div><div><br /></div><div>- Jett has played in 14 games, 3.7 minutes per game, and averaged 1.6 points per. (Orlando Magic)</div><div>- Caleb Houstan played in 51 games and averages 14 minutes with 4.3 points per game (Orlando Magic)</div><div>- Mousa Diabate played in 11 games, 5.8 minutes per, and 2.6 points per game. Greg Mattison and Al Washington come to mind. We knew Greg would flame out quickly as he was near retirement, which he did and Al didn't stay long before he jumped to Notre Dame. <div><br /></div><div>Now the reverse has happened, Tony Alford OSU's well known RB Coach is jumping from the Buckeyes to the Wolverines and replacing the role Mike Hart just left. Now we all love Mike and hope his personal situation is not too serious and he is an elite developer of talent. The issue is, he struggled on the recruiting trail. Per EJ Holland on X: Mike Hart landed 1 top 200 RB while at Michigan, Tony landed 9 while at Ohio State. This is not to diminish Mike, its to show that Tony gets it done on the trail. </div><div><br /></div><div>Since Spring Ball is starting soon, the on boarding team at U of M was able to get Tony's background check and other paperwork done in a matter of hours vs. weeks for other coaches hired. Tony is official as the new RB Coach and Run Game Coordinator. I think this is arguably Sherrone's best hire. </div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Devin Bush who has struggled after his ACL injury and spent last year in Seattle is visiting Cleveland today. </li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Michigan Basketball ended its season 8-24 last night. The 5th year safety had a great pass break up in the Ohio State game and caused a fumble in the Rose Bowl. Both plays were very memorable for Michigan fans. Q surprised many Michigan fans when he declared for the NFL Draft. He didn't get a combine invite and many fans thought it was just another hit to Michigan's secondary after Sabb headed for Alabama and the rumored $2M. </p><p>Then the rumor broke yesterday that Quinten was headed back to Michigan for his 6th season. Social media confirmed Johnson signed a new NIL deal with Randy Wise on Monday. Insiders are now confirming the intention is for Johnson to stay at Michigan. Yes, we have had recent examples where that has happened, but Michigan Football just reached the summit of the sport and Michigan Basketball finished last in the Big Ten with 23 loses. </span><div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit;">We knew Michigan Basketball would be bad between Juwan's health issue, a physical conflict with S&C coach Jon Sanderson, and a rigged admission office. We didn't know they would be awful. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit;">Juwan has pretty much used up all his good will as a former Fab 5 member and hasn't been able to keep the program at a level that Coach B left it. It seems Warde is going to give him another "make it or break it" year. I hope there are diamonds in the rough in the portal as he won't be able to recruit kids from high school for a turnaround squad for next season. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit;">This is old news by now, but Mike Hart has left the Michigan program. This one hurts for me. Mike is one of my favorite players of all time. He was Blake Corum before Blake put on shoulder pads. I don't have any insight into his personal issues but I hope they clear up and he can continue his coaching career with another program at some point. I still feel very sad that Michigan wins a National Championship and his to reboot most of its coaching staff. Mike's contract expired in January and by insider reports he stepped away for personal reasons. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><ul style="text-align: left;"><li><span style="font-family: inherit;">The Lions have re-signed Graham Glasgow for 3 years $20M! Next year kicks off the 12 team playoff system with Michigan AD Warde Manuel at the helm of the Playoff Committee. Which probably explains the report that the playoff committee is now looking to grow to 14 teams with 3 automatic qualifiers from the Big Ten and SEC. </p><p>I know it's good to have future conversations but let's see how 12 teams goes before we move to 14 and this becomes the NCAA Basketball Tournament. </p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Famous comedian and OSU grad Richard Lewis passed away yesterday. Michigan played in the last game of the year, so they had an extended portal opening. Then Jim left for the NFL and the portal stayed open for another 30 days. It finally closed on Friday at Midnight. With only one loss to the two deep in Keon Sabb who is headed to Alabama. </p><p>Now, I believe there is another chance for players to jump after Spring Practice but for now things are steady. That is some great work by Sherrone and his new staff. You know everyone and their brother were after the likes of Will Johnson, Ken Grant, and others. Keeping the core on both sides of the ball with zero defensive coaches is well done. </p><p>Michigan of course did lose one signed recruit in Jaden Smith who elected to further his education and football skills at Kentucky. That is now 3 Michigan recruits who have flipped to UK in this last class. Ironically, all 3 recruits had the last name Smith. I wonder if UK is servicing up more than Bourbon down there?</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>JJ is planning on throwing at the NFL Combine this week. </li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>One guy at CBS has Mikey in the first round in his mock draft. </li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Michigan Basketball dropped another one to Purdue on Sunday. That clearly didn't happen, my apologies.</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Will Johnson has been rumored to be getting huge NIL offers from other schools like Alabama. Michigan needed a QB with playing experience if JJ somehow got hurt in Michigan's run to a National Championship. Its seems that very thing happened but JJ played through injury against Maryland and Michigan snuck out with a win. <div><br /></div><div>Jack saw a huge opportunity for him next season but was out of eligibility. Either way he was going to stay with the program as a GA assistant or maybe the starting QB. He got part one of his wish over the weekend as his waiver for another year got approved. <span> </span></div><div><span><br /></span></div><div><span>Spring Ball will start to dictate whose Michigan's starter at QB next season, but you have to assume that Jack's playing experience might give him a slight edge over Orji at the moment. I could see a situation where multiple QB's play during the season. </span></div><div><span><br /></span></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>In another move that is different from the Harbaugh days. That happened yesterday when Stephen Adegoke decided to stay with the Texans after accepting the job of DB coach at Michigan. That is a tough one. <div><br /></div><div><span style="background-color: #fcff01;">Update: </span>Michigan is hiring Louisiana defensive coordinator LaMar Morgan as defensive backs coach. This is a good hire and the Jesse Minter recommendation. This now completes the hiring process for Michigan's on-field coaching staff. I'm sure there will still be other off the field staff still to be hired. <br /><div><br /></div><div>Then news comes out that Keon Sabb has entered the transfer portal. Word is Sabb did not expect that both Moore and Paige would return. So Sabb is probably looking for more playing time (no pun intended). Keon had 28 tackles and 2 picks this past season. This is another tough loss. </div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>There continues to be concern for Mike Hart and the private matter he is going through. Mike is one of my favorite Michigan players of all time and I hope his situation has a positive outcome and he can return soon. Please keep a good thought for Mike and his family. </li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Now some good news: Brad Hawkins is expected to come back to Ann Arbor and be a GA on Coach Moore's staff. </li></ul></div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4068822035923402169.post-27164426239180459622024-02-15T10:21:00.001-05:002024-02-15T10:26:43.119-05:00Michigan Thursday: Bob's Random Thoughts Sherrone is close to rounding out the defensive side of the football after Jim pillaged that entire coaching staff. Let us not forget, this is Michigan's #1 unit next season. The likes of Graham, Stewart, Grant, and Johnson will be 4 of the best players in college football next season. <div><br /></div><div>I like the hire of Texans Safety coach Stephen Adegoke, when he was in Ann Arbor as a GA in 2021. He impressed coaches and players with his football knowledge. He then went to the 49'ers and last year with the Texan's. Reports are his interview was a home run and sounds like a perfect fit for the staff. </div><div><br /></div><div>The last spot at LB coach is Brian Jean-Mary's for the taking. Reports are Tennessee is really trying hard to keep him him but Michigan's financial package is strong. <span style="background-color: #fcff01;">Update: Sam Webb reports BJM has been hired! </span></div><div><br /></div><div>You know how I feel about the Wink hire but the rest of the hires have been very solid and happy with the replacements. When you see Steve Wilks fired from the 49'ers yesterday, my mind went to, he would've been a better option then Wink, But, I'm trying to move on. </div><div><br /></div><div>Speaking of moving on, Tony Petitti says he and Warde have moved on. Guess what Tony, we haven't. You showed incompetence as a leader by suspending Harbaugh hours before the Penn State game and Michigan fans haven't forgot. If I were you, I would still continue to polish up that resume. </div><div><br /></div><div>Random thought: There are a lot of Buckeye fans excited about Chip Kelly having elite talent mixed with his offense. My thought is, when was the last time Chip coached an elite offense? Has the defense caught up with his scheme? Don Brown used to have an elite defense, until smarter coaches found a way to beat it. </div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>OSU fired its head basketball coach, Chris Holtmann on Wednesday. Juwan got a vote of confidence from Warde. I don't mind giving Juwan another year with his health issues to begin the season. Though he needs to have a huge season next season.</li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Will Michigan break Georgia's record by having 16 players drafted? Having the NFL Draft in Detroit won't hurt the local love for the Wolverines in the draft! </li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>CFP will continue at ESPN, which is a smart move mostly with the 12 teams now. Let's take a quick look at where we are at:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Wink Martindale has been hired as the DC. </li><li>Greg Scruggs from Wisconsin has been hired as DL coach. </li><li>Brian Jean-Mary, LB Coach from TN and former Michigan coach is expected to head to Ann Arbor but UT continues to try to keep BJM. </li><li><span style="background-color: #fcff01;">Houston Texans Safeties Coach Stephen Adegoke </span><strike>is in the mix</strike> <span style="background-color: #fcff01;">HIRED!</span></li><li>Lamar Morgan Louisiana DC has also interviewed and has the Minter endorsement. </li></ul><div>Sam Webb reports the final spot is between Stephen and Lamar. </div><div><br /></div><div>For me the only bad decision is Wink but if he can keep the current players happy by prepping them to play in an NFL Defense and teaching one of the new hires the Ravens Defense, then I guess it's worth it. If he is Don Brown Part 2, it will be a disaster. </div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Michigan is sending a record 18 players to NFL combine. That should help recruiting. </li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>JJ continues to impress scouts that are watching tape. If you think about it, JJ has had elite NFL QB training at Michigan. He should be a top 10 pick. He is not Stenson Bennett. </li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Tiger Woods new apparel line looks a little strange. Michigan has 1 defensive coach listed on Mgoblue and its Coach Clink. So officially, Michigan has ZERO defensive coaches. Wink has not been officially hired as he needs to go through background checks, etc. (please have a red flag in the background check, please have a red flag).<div><br /></div><div>It seems Sherrone has hired Greg Scruggs who Coach Sherrone knew at Louisville. Greg has coached at Cincinnati, NY Jets, and Wisconsin. He also played in the NFL for Seattle, Bears, and Patriots. He has 2 Super Bowl Rings! </div><div><br /></div><div>Other names include a familiar one in Brian Jean-Mary who was once at Michigan and is known as a great recruiter. Brian is currently a coach at Tennessee. Reports are he is interested in coming back to Ann Arbor with a nice raise and his buyout covered. Yes, please. </div><div><br /></div><div>Coach will need to hire a DB/Safety coach and reports are Sherrone wants one coach to coach both positions. There is even a rumor that one candidate has been recommended by Coach Minter. </div><div><br /></div><div>Other names out there: Syracuse LB coach Nick Williams who coached at Colorado last season, Drew Wilkins LB coach for the Giants under Wink, and Purdue DB Coach Grant O'Brien who coached that talented group of Illinois DB's. Yes please on Grant O'Brien. </div><div><br /></div><div>Either way, we need defensive coaches to keep the current roster where it is, current signed recruits, and to get on the road recruiting. </div><div><br /></div><div>Note: No word on the Mike Hart situation. </div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Wow, Nick Sheridan is expected to be named Alabama OC</li></ul></div><div><br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4068822035923402169.post-62220319981936649832024-02-12T08:52:00.000-05:002024-02-12T08:52:05.348-05:00Michigan Monday: Moody Blues I don't think it's fair to put blame on the 49'ers Super Bowl loss on Jake Moody. Yes, that extra point was kicked lower then it should've been and was blocked. Yes, it was the difference between a 3 and 4 point lead, I get all of that. Moody delivered 10 points and for about an hour even had a Super Bowl record. Jake, hold your head high today. I also feel bad for Ambry Thomas and Ronnie Bell. <div><br /></div><div>It amazes me that the Michigan Football news does not stop, not even on a Super Bowl Sunday. </div><div><br /></div><div><b>Bad News:</b> 4 star LB signee Jaden Smith has requested a release from his NIL. Which Michigan will grant. Can't blame the kid, the entire defensive staff is gone. </div><div><br /></div><div><b>Good News:</b> Sherrone looks to be hiring a former colleague of his and current Wisconsin DL coach Greg Scruggs. He is known as a good coach and a hustler on the recruiting trail. Seems like a good hire if they can complete the deal. </div><div><br /></div><div>Sherrone also made a very good hire on Saturday, when he brought back Sean Magee to be the Football General Manager and assistant AD. Great hire! </div><div><br /></div><div>This was a bit of old news but the hire of Steve Casula as TE became official. </div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Rumor is that Jedd interviewed for the UCLA job. That is a little crazy. </li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Sounds like PJ Fleck turned down the Bruins advances. </li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Remember the story of Washington OC Ryan Grubb? He did end up going back to Seattle from Alabama as the Seahawks new OC.</li></ul></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4068822035923402169.post-7473356482072379622024-02-10T15:11:00.000-05:002024-02-10T15:11:30.590-05:00Memo to: Jim Harbaugh LA Chargers <div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Jim, </div><div>I thought my last letter to you was the one prior to the National Championship game. You did this program proud and delivered a National Championship to Ann Arbor. That was only a short month ago. </div><div><br /></div><div>During this past month since the National Championship, I would not consider your actions "Michigan Man" worthy. I understand Football is a business and I understand you are doing what is in the best interest of your current employer, but my friend you have gone too far. </div><div><br /></div><div>A month ago, I would've wanted you to have buildings built on campus with your name on them and statues of your likeness next to Bo. Today, I'm almost as upset I was with you after your teams effort in the 2020 season. The University of Michigan is your school and the program that you worked at for the last 9 years. Your mentored Sherrone for this job and now your doing everything possible to block his success. </div><div><br /></div><div>Jim my biggest disappointment with you, is you not taking no for an answer. Coach Clink and Coach Herbert both wanted to stay in Ann Arbor, you continued to up your offer until they couldn't say no. DO YOU NOT CARE ABOUT THE PLAYERS STILL ON THIS TEAM? I heard a ton about family and togetherness last season, is that completely over now? </div><div><br /></div><div>What is going on here? It's just business, I'm sure you will tell friends. That is BULL SHIT. </div><div><br /></div><div>Are you sending a message to Warde? </div><div><br /></div><div>Sherrone is struggling to hire quality coaches for the coaches you are taking on a daily basis. DO YOU NOT CARE? Wink was not hireable in the NFL and is now Michigan's DC. I know Sherrone ran that hire by you. WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Michigan used to be the place for the youngest and brightest coaches in the business. We now have an elderly DC that was run out of the NFL for being difficult to work with. His first day on the job, his top assistant leaves. He is off to a great start. </div><div><br /></div><div>In every interview you do, you talk about how you love U of M but you can't earn a Lombardi Trophy in college football. Then stop treating Michigan's program like an NFL Team. These are kids that trusted you and trusted their position coaches who recruited them. You are taking that trust away with every coach you hire for the Chargers. </div><div><br /></div><div>I'm assuming you are done now as there really isn't many more coaches you can take. I assume you have noticed what Ohio State has been doing this off season? They just hired UCLA's head coach to be their OC. Spent $13M on bringing in top talent from other teams to beat Michigan. While you hire away all Michigan's top assistants. </div><div><br /></div><div>When you left Michigan, there was a lot of "Thank you Jim" posts, tweets, etc. I'm no longer at that stage. My statement to you now is:</div><div><br /></div><div>Damn you Jim for what you have done to this program since leaving Houston. Damn you. </div><div><br /></div><div>Don't you dare say, "its just business". Because you know better then anyone, that the players, this team, this program means more then that to us. </div><div><br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com25tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4068822035923402169.post-64271024622003757692024-02-09T14:35:00.003-05:002024-02-09T14:35:38.428-05:00Breaking News: Chip Kelly to Ohio State OC What is going on? Has the entire football industry gone mad? If this trend continues, I'm going to be upset that Sherrone didn't interview Nick Saban to be Michigan's next DC. <div><br /></div><div>Bill O'Brien (BOB) who has been in role at Ohio State about a month, is leaving to take over the head coaching duties at BC, whose head coach left to become the DC of the Green Bay Packers. </div><div><br /></div><div>That deal has not officially been announced yet, which promoted Chip Kelly who has been interviewing for NFL OC jobs to resign as the head coach of Big Ten newcomer UCLA to become the new OC at Ohio State. </div><div><br /></div><div>What is going on? I know Chip wanted out of UCLA but taking an OC job at another Big Ten schools is outrageous. </div><div><br /></div><div>Any chance Wink Martindale is named the head coach of UCLA? 😃</div><div><br /></div><div>Enjoy the Super Bowl!</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4068822035923402169.post-34274442558875596532024-02-09T09:27:00.001-05:002024-02-09T10:29:04.141-05:00Michigan Friday: Amoeba or Don't Need Ya There are only 2 upsides for hiring Wink Martindale as DC. <div><br /></div><div>1. He invented the Amoeba Defense that Macdonald and Minter have been running at Michigan. </div><div>2. Hopefully Michigan's talented players see this as a person to prepare them for the NFL Draft and they stay in Ann Arbor and not chase big NIL checks in the portal.</div><div><br /></div><div>That is it. </div><div><br /></div><div>I believe this is a terrible hire for Sherrone and a disaster waiting to happen. Wink was a huge problem for the NY Giants last season and that was after John Harbaugh fired him. Reports are his was disruptive in coaches meetings and couldn't get along with Giants head coach Brian Daboll. </div><div><br /></div><div>If you believe I'm being too negative. Let me ask you a question: Why didn't Jimmy hire him? Why didn't Mike Macdonald hire him? Why didn't Dallas hire him? If everyone in the NFL wants to run the Ravens defense, Why didn't any other NFL team hire him? Because the word is out and there are no secrets in the NFL. </div><div><br /></div><div>This is a huge mistake. Sherrone is a young brand new coach, he doesn't need a guy like this looking over his shoulder. He needs young hungry coaches that match his style of coaching. This isn't a Phil Martelli situation. Phil was respected by everyone and had a great track record. </div><div><br /></div><div>If you know anything about management/leadership styles this is an explosive situation with a high likelihood of not working. Remember Jimmy hired a defensive coach, I forgot his name and the reports were he didn't get along with anyone and was coaching from home? </div><div><br /></div><div>Wink is 60, he won't be recruiting, he is trying to save his career and will take the first bus back to the NFL. </div><div><br /></div><div>Another thought you might have is: Alabama does this every year and rebuilds a coaches reputation and they move on to become successful head coaches. That was because Saban was there. I would be less concerned about this hire if Harbaugh was still the head coach. </div><div><br /></div><div>This is the type of sh*t I was worried about when Jim left. He absolutely pillaged the coaching staff at the worst possible time to find replacements in college football. I love what he did for this program but he is lighting it on fire on the way out. </div><div><br /></div><div>I know I'm being overly emotional but this truly is a terrible decision by Michigan's Leadership. This also falls on Warde for letting it happen. </div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Speaking of Warde, he is now the chair of the CFP committee. With a wave of discontent from Michigan fans on the job he is doing at Michigan. </li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>John U Bacon says there are discussion about the regents extending Warde. Can someone read the room please?</li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Jordan Kovacs got promoted to the Bengals Secondary coach. Congrats Jordan! </li></ul></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com14
