A job well done.

He also took a shot at his social media critics yesterday. Warde you have done some good things as AD at Michigan but also some head scratching mistakes. We don't need to list them as its a decent size list. With maybe the highest profile, not locking down Jim Harbaugh over the past two years. Yes, he was always interested in returning to the NFL but your lack of relationship and management allowed him to leave. Good leaders don't take shots at its critics when the sun shines on them, bad leaders do.

Dusty said he is going to hit the portal to rebuild the roster in his introductory press conference.

Frankie Collins is on the move again, this time leaving ASU

JJ continues to move up draft boards, many believe its not realistic to think he will still be there at 11.

Surprised Michigan hasn't hired a DL coach yet. For the most part, the Wolverines did that last season. The year prior with a very talented team, they clearly missed their best player on offense in the CFP when Blake Corum went down with a knee injury against Illinois.

We are just a couple days into Spring Practice and have already gotten some bad news in that starting Safety Rod Moore has gone down with a serious knee injury. The internet is speculating an ACL and MCL tear. Which would clearly put him him out for the entire 2024 campaign. We already know Michigan has already lost Sabb to the portal and Alabama's NIL effort. Not only does this hurt the starting lineup it hurts depth in Safety/DB room.

With English heading to the portal and now Moore's injury. Michigan will need to make an effort finding maybe 2 DB's and 2 WR's in the portal. Getting 1 of each is now the very minimum. Hearing the young DB's are playing well this Spring which is good news and might take some sting off this news.

Fox is going to televise the Michigan Spring Game. Have they ever watched a Michigan Spring Game?

Donovan Edwards says he is up 14 pounds and finally fully healthy.

Michigan had Ohio 4-star RB Bo Jackson on campus this weekend? Shouldn't he be a 5-star? 😃

Mason Graham confirmed he wants to stay at Michigan and continue on with his teammates in a program that he knows. He must of had some huge NIL offers from other teams.

Dallas Cowboys Michigan Draft Picks Mazi Smith and Luke Schoonmaker both have shoulder surgery.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4068822035923402169.post-48376328840975085742024-03-25T11:27:00.000-04:002024-03-25T11:27:12.773-04:00Michigan Monday: May Day in March When it was clear Juwan was heading out of the program, I said Warde should make two phone calls. #1 is to Jay Wright and #2 to Dusty May. I don't' know if Jay was ever in play but many insiders have said, he has no interest in today's NIL world. Which would make FAU's Dusty May, mine and Warde's #1 pick.

Warde quickly pulled the trigger and got Dusty a day after FAU lost in the tournament. I'm uniquely qualified to discuss Dusty. My son just graduated from FAU and he and my wallet went to the Final 4 last year. So I've watched more then my fair share of Owl Basketball.

Dusty came from Florida where he was a long time assistant for Mike White. Dusty built the FAU Basketball Program from nothing. FAU was built on football with a line of famous football coaches including Lane Kiffin and now Tom Herman. Football has had limited success but Basketball made it to the Final 4 last year and lost by a basket from making it to the National Championship. To give this perspective, FAU plays their home games in a basically a Gym not an Arena. FAU has a football stadium that hosts a bowl game.

Dusty built his program by finding gems in the portal. I used to joke with my son, he found these guys in a local YMCA. He runs an offense that has ties to European Basketball that can confuse an opponent with talented players. As you might imagine, Dusty did not bring these kids in with huge NIL checks.

I've seen comparisons online that Dusty is a young John Beilein and I agree 100%. His is an offensive coach and I hope he brings in a great DC. He is a great face of the program and I hope is in Ann Arbor for a long time. Louisville thought they had him on Saturday night, but Warde and Coach B convinced him to come to Ann Arbor. OSU was interested before hiring its interim coach and Vandy was also involved. Dusty was clearly the top guy that was available right now.

I've been very critical of Warde for many reasons but he did an excellent job here and even passed on getting his buddy Ed Cooley another raise. Dusty will have his hands full in this job, he has to save the signed recruiting class, bring in a new staff, and hit the portal hard. I hope he has a ton of success in all areas.

Dusty signed a $3.75M a year - 5 year contract

JJ was sharp at Michigan's Pro Day. It was interesting they were showcasing Blake's downfield WR skills.

Michigan Women's Basketball and Michigan Hockey both had tough results on Saturday.

Class move for Juwan to attend the Women's NCAA game

Karmello English who was true freshman last season and caught 1 ball for 1 TD. Is jumping into the portal in April and no longer with the team. With the lack of depth in the WR room, this is a curious decision in my opinion. I would assume there are other issues here at play other then playing time.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4068822035923402169.post-58304035206002373432024-03-22T10:36:00.002-04:002024-03-22T11:59:17.894-04:00Michigan Friday: Pro Day and Coaches Coming and Going
My expectation is that there will be a ton of NFL executives in Ann Arbor today for Michigan's Pro Day to watch JJ and all the draft eligible Wolverines participate in drills. Jim will be attending with Jessie Minter and Ben Herbert. 7 NFL Head Coaches and 9 GM's are expected to attend as well. Plus a ton other NFL OC's, DC's, and other position coaches. Update: Matt Miller from ESPN says he expects there are 150+ NFL Personnel at today's Pro Day.

JJ is probably the most discussed QB on ESPN right now as NFL team decide if he is a top 5 pick or a lock for Minnesota at 11. I'm truly biased but I watched a lot of Caleb Williams and didn't watch Heisman winner Jayden Daniels at all, I think JJ makes the best decisions out of any of them. Good Luck to all the guys today and I hope everyone's stock goes up!

Michigan's Athletic Department must be paying a ton of money for background checks on all the coaches they have been hiring lately.

The news breaks on Greg Scruggs arrest and he immediately resigns his position. There are two candidates that come top of mind to fill that role. #1 is Illinois Terrance Jamison was supposedly the runner up to Greg Scruggs a few months ago. Fan and program favorite Ryan Osborn who was very popular on staff a few years ago and is currently with the Ravens as a defensive line assistant coach. Tarris Reed and Yo Yo are the latest two to the portal. The new coach is going to have a blank canvas and the promise of playing time for portal players. Tarris averaged 26.5 minutes a game and 9 points. Youssef Khayat under 6 minutes and 1.4 points a game.

I heard yesterday that there are about 4000 D1 Basketball Players. Which I say, good luck at your next stop! The Michigan Basketball program needs a complete reboot and losing players or recruits is not a concern at this point. Bring in new coaches and get new players in.

Dug, Michigan's top scorer who struggled in the classroom hit the portal as soon as it opened. Khani Rooths a 2024 recruit decommitted. George Washington 3 had jumped in the portal first. Good luck guys! Update: Tarris Reed has jumped in the portal as well!

Michigan's first Spring Practice as National Champions and under Sherrone Moore kicked off on Monday. Juwan was struggling with his health, with his players, his staff, and winning games. That was just this past season. In 2021 which doesn't seem that long ago Juwan was the national coach of the year. Now, he is probably headed for an NBA assistant role next season. If he even wants to coach, Juwan made a ton of money in his NBA career and I assume he doesn't need to work and might want to take some time away from the game.

The bottom line is, I don't believe Juwan had the patience for the college game which is changing every year. It used to be about "dirty money" and now its just about money and a difficult admission department. You think Coach B or Jay Wright is interested in jumping back into that mess? I doubt it. Juwan's lack of patience frustrated him and he took it out on opposing coaches and his famous S&C coach. He was lucky to get past one of those incidents, no way he survives both after winning 8 games.

Now what? Your guess is as good as mine. I don't watch enough college basketball to assess who would be a good fit. What I do know, is that Michigan should not look at a big name coach. Find the next Coach Beilein. Find a guy that will recruit his ass off and run an offense that is hard to prepare for. Find a coach that can spot talent in the portal and bring coaches that teach defense and sound basketball.

This is a football school and always will be a football school. The NIL $$ will flow to Schembechler Hall vs. Crisler Arena (I know its Center). Michigan Football just won a National Championship and the basketball program just won 8 games. Yes, each program is over tilted from where they have been but it's time for a reboot of the Basketball Program. Warde has a ton of leaderships faults, we surmise on the outside looking in. Though I don't think many of us would want to hire a new football coach and basketball coach in Ann Arbor within a couple of months.

For those that don't understand the title of this post. Ed Cooley is a friend of Warde's. When Warde was looking to hire a coach after Coach B left. Warde got Ed a raise at Providence by showing interest in hiring his friend, when he knew all along he was going to hire Juwan. Ed is now at Georgetown.

Juwan's recruits in the NBA:

- Jett has played in 14 games, 3.7 minutes per game, and averaged 1.6 points per. Greg Mattison and Al Washington come to mind. We knew Greg would flame out quickly as he was near retirement, which he did and Al didn't stay long before he jumped to Notre Dame.

Now the reverse has happened, Tony Alford OSU's well known RB Coach is jumping from the Buckeyes to the Wolverines and replacing the role Mike Hart just left. Now we all love Mike and hope his personal situation is not too serious and he is an elite developer of talent. The issue is, he struggled on the recruiting trail. Per EJ Holland on X: Mike Hart landed 1 top 200 RB while at Michigan, Tony landed 9 while at Ohio State. This is not to diminish Mike, its to show that Tony gets it done on the trail.

Since Spring Ball is starting soon, the on boarding team at U of M was able to get Tony's background check and other paperwork done in a matter of hours vs. weeks for other coaches hired. Tony is official as the new RB Coach and Run Game Coordinator. The 5th year safety had a great pass break up in the Ohio State game and caused a fumble in the Rose Bowl. Both plays were very memorable for Michigan fans. Q surprised many Michigan fans when he declared for the NFL Draft. He didn't get a combine invite and many fans thought it was just another hit to Michigan's secondary after Sabb headed for Alabama and the rumored $2M.

Then the rumor broke yesterday that Quinten was headed back to Michigan for his 6th season. Social media confirmed Johnson signed a new NIL deal with Randy Wise on Monday. Insiders are now confirming the intention is for Johnson to stay at Michigan. Yes, we have had recent examples where that has happened, but Michigan Football just reached the summit of the sport and Michigan Basketball finished last in the Big Ten with 23 loses.

We knew Michigan Basketball would be bad between Juwan's health issue, a physical conflict with S&C coach Jon Sanderson, and a rigged admission office. We didn't know they would be awful.

Juwan has pretty much used up all his good will as a former Fab 5 member and hasn't been able to keep the program at a level that Coach B left it. It seems Warde is going to give him another "make it or break it" year. I hope there are diamonds in the rough in the portal as he won't be able to recruit kids from high school for a turnaround squad for next season.

This is old news by now, but Mike Hart has left the Michigan program. This one hurts for me. Mike is one of my favorite players of all time. He was Blake Corum before Blake put on shoulder pads. I don't have any insight into his personal issues but I hope they clear up and he can continue his coaching career with another program at some point. I still feel very sad that Michigan wins a National Championship and his to reboot most of its coaching staff. Mike's contract expired in January and by insider reports he stepped away for personal reasons.

The Lions have re-signed Graham Glasgow for 3 years $20M! UMass was in the MAC from 2012 -2015 and had a record of 7-25 in league play. Don is trying to turn around one of the worst football programs in America.

JJ and Blake have a big opportunity this week at the combine. Michigan played in the last game of the year, so they had an extended portal opening. Then Jim left for the NFL and the portal stayed open for another 30 days. It finally closed on Friday at Midnight. With only one loss to the two deep in Keon Sabb who is headed to Alabama.

Now, I believe there is another chance for players to jump after Spring Practice but for now things are steady. That is some great work by Sherrone and his new staff. You know everyone and their brother were after the likes of Will Johnson, Ken Grant, and others. Keeping the core on both sides of the ball with zero defensive coaches is well done.

Michigan of course did lose one signed recruit in Jaden Smith who elected to further his education and football skills at Kentucky. That is now 3 Michigan recruits who have flipped to UK in this last class. Ironically, all 3 recruits had the last name Smith. I wonder if UK is servicing up more than Bourbon down there?

JJ is planning on throwing at the NFL Combine this week.

One guy at CBS has Mikey in the first round in his mock draft.

Michigan Basketball dropped another one to Purdue on Sunday. That clearly didn't happen, my apologies.

Will Johnson has been rumored to be getting huge NIL offers from other schools like Alabama. His family says he is staying in Ann Arbor! Thank you! He also said on IG that he will be in the new NCAA 2025 that is expected to be released this summer.

Donovan Edwards also signs an NIL deal with EA Sports and is expected to be in the game and endorse it.

Speaking of Alabama, you know that Keon Sabb transferred there early this week. He had a great game against Alabama in the Rose Bowl, but the coaching staff now of course is from UW. I'm sure there was 0 tapering going on here and everything was above board. 😠

Former Michigan LB coach twice, Chris Partridge has gotten a job with the Seattle Seahawks, I love how Mike MacDonald has taken care of his boys. I know it was a messy break up with Chris, but I think he is a good coach that players love.

Adrian Peterson who I walked by at the National Championship is having some money issues.

Mazi Smith's didn't pay for his storage locker and some lucky guy got a ton of his old Michigan Jordan PE shoes, Legos and much more. The guy who won the auction is going to make a killing. Michigan needed a QB with playing experience if JJ somehow got hurt in Michigan's run to a National Championship. Its seems that very thing happened but JJ played through injury against Maryland and Michigan snuck out with a win.

Jack saw a huge opportunity for him next season but was out of eligibility. Either way he was going to stay with the program as a GA assistant or maybe the starting QB. He got part one of his wish over the weekend as his waiver for another year got approved.

Spring Ball will start to dictate whose Michigan's starter at QB next season, but you have to assume that Jack's playing experience might give him a slight edge over Orji at the moment. I could see a situation where multiple QB's play during the season.

In another move that is different from the Harbaugh days. Sherrone hired Zach Higgenbotham as the Director of Football Sports and Science. I have no idea what it means but it sound very cool.

No need to discuss the Michigan - MSU Basketball game over the weekend.

Michigan walk-on Jerome Nichols who got 11 snaps in 4 years has transferred to Florida A&M.

Roy Rountree got a new gig as the WR coach for Miami of Ohio.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com15
