Fix the Wolverines

This will be my regular Tuesday post on what I would do if I controlled the Michigan football team or was in Lloyd Carr's shoes:

  • Do something different on first down: This is the best down to throw on and you maybe have the best receivers in the nation. Everybody and their brother is looking for you to run. Throw the Damn ball!

  • Run Some Play Action: Since everybody knows that Michigan runs the ball a ton, you would think play action would freeze the linebackers and give Chad or Ryan big passing lanes to throw the ball in.

  • Dress Hart and Henne. I believe both of these guys will be ready to play this week but both should have been dressed this past Saturday. For goodness sake, we all most needed Henne to go the the dressing room get changed and hand the ball off.

  • Throw to the tight ends and use the center of the field. Is the center of the field haunted? Is the middle of the field just for running? What's the deal? Throw it down the middle and stop running those WR screens.

  • Fix the center snap issues.

  • Play everyone like your playing OSU. I don't care how bad the team is across the field, crush them from the kickoff. Don't wait to turn the page of the playbook until your down two scores. You would be 8-1 and ranked #4 in the country if you did.

  • Play to win and not to lose.

  • If it's 3rd and 6. Make sure you have a 7 to 8 yard pass play called. I can't stand it when we throw a 4 yard crossing route on 3rd and 6.

  • Play a night game, at home once every two years. I know the old alums cry and moan, (they can afford a room at the Holiday Inn) but there would be nothing bigger then a Michigan - ND night game at the Big House.

  • Recruit a kicker every year

  • Recruit speed

  • and most importantly after the bowl game, take the assistant AD job and hire Les Miles for $3M a year.
