Respect the Vest?

As Buckeye John points out in his Monday report, many Buckeye fans are feeling slighted that the media feels OSU isn't the best team in the country. Let's take a look to see why ..............

  1. Big Ten is way down this year, thanks to App. State, Wisconsin's free fall, and no other real contenders for the Big Ten Championship but the Big Two.
  2. A poor non-conference schedule. Early on the Washington win looked good, but they haven't won at PAC 10 game this year. 2-6 overall
  3. Wins over currently ranked teams: 0 (Purdue and PSU were ranked when OSU beat them)
  4. Last years National Championship Game and The Rose Bowl. Big Ten beat downs
  5. Style of Play: OSU is consistent and play very fundamental football. They are not flashy but they win
  6. The Big Ten Network. From my account the Buckeyes will be on this channel 4 times this year. That means the nation is not seeing your team
  7. Lack of a superstar. The team is solid at every position but no Heisman candidate after Troy's rise to the top last year
  8. The difficulty of the other conferences. SEC has 2 or 3 games each week matching ranked teams. The Big Ten only has 2 ranked teams
  9. The Florida curse
  10. All the upsets this year. When is it OSU turn?

So during a "rebuilding year" it seems OSU has "reloaded". OSU has Wisconsin at home, Illinois at home, and Michigan at the Big House. We might not know how good this team really is until the meet someone (from a top conference) in New Orleans.

Good grief....How many times am I going to have to say this. All those points are valid. But....every other team has equal baggage that needs to be addressed. I would not have a problem with OSU being ranked anywhere in the top 2-4 teams. However, any arguement for other teams would be just as questionable. How many solid performances do the Buckeyes need to have until people stop saying...."We might not know how good this team is until they meet someone" Do we have to win out? What if we lose a game between now and Michigan and then beat Michigan? Would the loss and the expected drop in the rankings make everyone happy?
