Don't Call It a Come back, I've Been here for Years

In the 100th meeting between Michigan and Michigan state, I think that line from the rap legend LL Cool J is going through the minds of Mike Hart, Chad Henne, and Jake Long. Then again, I wonder if Mike, Chad, and Jake even know who LL Cool J is? Either way, they again picked up the Michigan football program and put the entire team on their shoulders and crushed the hopes and dreams of Sparty once again.

They were down two scores with less then 8 minutes to play in the game, the Wolverines looked like a beaten team. Then the final nail in the coffin came when Chad leaves the game with a twisted ankle and Ryan Mallett comes in and gets blind sided and fumbles the ball. That was it, the game was over and Sparty had finally beat Michigan. Well, something funny happened on the way to this Spartans victory, Mike Hart picked up the fumble and ran for 19 yards and a Michigan first down. The drive and the season saved.

That play seemed to energize the Wolverines and Henne came back in and started to pick apart the Spartans defense. Scoring in less then one minute on a beautiful pass from Henne that dropped into Mathews hands. That pass was so perfect, it looked like Greg just caught a loaf of bread that just dropped off a Kroger's shelf.

With 5 minutes to play, the Defense had to get the ball back. Which is exactly what they did. Then the magic happened with 2:25 left on the clock, Henne lofted a third down pass to Mario Manningham who picked it out of the sky and crushed Sparty once again.

Again, Michigan showed a ton of Hart and Henne to pull this win out in East Lansing. I wonder about this team as the memory of the opening loses starts to fade away. Is this a team of density or just a team that is getting by as their All Americans are beat up? Either way, I will take the 8 wins in a row with battles against Wisconsin and OSU coming up next. Hold on to your hats, because this is going to be a wild ride!

Big Ten Winning Football Lives here!

Cheers.......

  • Hart and Henne for playing through pain

  • Jake Long for just being Jake and dominating everything

  • Mario for being a game breaker and the best WR in the Big Ten

  • The Defense for getting 2 key stops late in the game

  • For the entire team for not giving up after being down 2 scores late in the game

Jeers.......

  • Line Backers and Defensive Line for not being able to stop the run in the 2nd half

  • Entire team for being "asleep" for all put 8 minutes in the second half

  • Crable, made a big sack and ran down Ringer on the 76 yard run, but didn't have a very good game overall (he should of had Ringer down for a 7 yard loss on the same play)

  • Schilling got man handled by Saint-Dic all game long

  • Ryan for having at least a one fumble per game rule

Look for the Buckeye Update from Buckeye John on Monday.
