I'm sure most of you by now have heard the story about Kevin Hart a Nevada HS Offensive Lineman who wanted to play college football so much that he set up a news conference to announce he was going to CAL over Oregon. The problem was neither school had ever heard of Kevin and he had basically made the whole thing up. Update: ESPN last night reported that Portland State where Jerry Granville (former HC in the NFL for the Oilers and Falcons) is the head coach might offer Kevin a spot on his team. Jerry loves the spotlight and probably could use a couple 6"5 290 lbs. lineman. 6"5 290 pound guard? Why wasn't this guy recruited more?
Did anyone notice that Michigan with its late pick up's now ranks #5 nationally on Scouts for its 2008 recruiting class. That's higher then Ohio State and LSU. That's pretty good since many believed Michigan couldn't touch OSU's class.
Others of note: Illinois #19, Wisconsin #26, PSU # 41, Iowa #42, Purdue #47, Michigan State #56.

In your rush to comment on the new Scout rankings you forgot to mention how terribly skewed the class ranking system is towards overall numbers as compared to individual quality. UM signed 25 players for next year...Ohio State signed only 19. UM signed 1 Five-Star....Ohio St. led all schools signing 8 of the Scout top 100 and 5 Five-Star players. Ohio State also had the second highest average star rating behind only Notre Dame. I know your only reporting the numbers as determined by Scout. However, by any fair metric Ohio State's class blows Michigan's out of the water.
Additionally, I recognize that UM has had success pulling great offensive talent out of Ohio over the years. Manningham, Howard, Powers etc. I'm pretty sure that other than Koger and Mealer, Ohio State pretty much passed on all your Ohio (Trotwood-Madison) recruits. You can have the #43 ranked TE (Brandon Moore), the #89 WR (RoundTree) and the #87 OT (Omameh. I'll stick with our 9 players with single digit rankings.

I hope you didn't take away from my post that OSU had a poor recruiting year, in fact I think they had a very good year with a number of 5 star players. The size of the class only maters on what your needs are. Bama signed something like 31 kids, with a 25 limit I assume they know they will have a number of kids that won't qualify. When you mention the kids from Ohio how come you didn't mention Kevin Koger or Elliott Mealer? I think RR did a good job getting 25 players in this class and picking up some late recuits in a year with a late coaching change. Michigan's strong finish with the Michael Shaw's of the world helped thier overall ranking. They were somewhere ranked 12 -14 before the late finished. Michigan's only 5 Star is a 4 on Rivals. So I would say Michigan did well with 4 Star guys and didn't with the 5 Stars. Michigan did well in Ohio, NJ, Texas, and Florida this year.
BHB - Check the second paragraph. I specifically called out Koger and Mealer as two guys that Ohio State wanted but lost to UM. I did not take away that you were in any way claiming vast superiority over the Ohio State class. I like our class and you like yours. What more could two fans ask for?

PS - I checked pretty far back for Ohio State's interest in Shaw. I couldn't find much. Not sure if it was because he committed to PSU early. I agree with one of your earlier posts about coaches poaching recruits. It only sucks when your team loses a player. Everyone does it.
