Wolverines in the AAFL

Have you heard of the All American Football League? No, me either. Not until I ran across it on the Internet. This is a new professional football league with 6 teams in Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, and yes Michigan. Games start in mid April. Team Michigan will play at Ford Field and be coached by a Fontes (John Fontes).

This league has a very interesting qualification: League teams will employ only those players who have both completed their college football eligibility and earned a four-year degree. This policy is expected to have a very positive impact on universities' NCAA Graduation Success Rate and their Academic Progress Rate. To the extent practical, graduates of host universities will play for the team hosted by their alma mater.

The first thing I did was check out how many former Wolverines were on each team. Team Michigan has of course the most Wolverines and Team Tennessee has one.

If you’re interested, check out each roster. You will find a number of names you'll recognize from all major programs across the country. You will find names like Heisman Winner Eric Crouch, Woody Dantzler, Ryan Hamby, and many more.

Wolverines on:

Team Michigan:
  • Willis Barringer, S

  • Jeremy Lesueur, DB

  • Dewayne Patmon, DB

  • Garrett Rivas, K

  • Adam Stenavich, T

  • James Whitley, DB

Team Tennesse:

  • Darnell Hood, DB
