The Freep has an article today about Michigan's only instate commitments who happen to be on the same Cass Tech high school team, 5 star DT William Campbell and the very fast 3 star running back (look for this go up to 4 stars if he stays healthy during his senior year) Teric Jones. The article is mostly fluff but had a interesting quote from William Campbell about playing on the Offensive Line when he gets to Michigan:
"Most likely I am going to play wherever there is lighter depth at,” Campbell said.On a side note, Cass Tech is implementing Coach Rod's offense so both William and Teric will be prepared when they get to Michigan next fall. Sounds like a great breading ground for other future Wolverines. William plays both OT and DT for Cass Tech.
- Pearlie Graves the best DT in the state of Oklahoma is saying he has a Michigan verbal offer and the written one is in the mail. Pearlie is 6"3 265 and also has an offer from Ok. State. (IMO: Mostly likely will stay close to home)
Tight End? Most people believe the position of Tight End doesn't exist in Rich Rod's offense. It also happens to be a current deep spot on the Wolverine Roster. So the question remains: What do you do with these guys if it is a dead spot? Here are some random thoughts on what the coaching staff might do with the 8 Tight Ends currently on the roster. 6 of the 8 have either Freshman or Sophomore eligibility.
- If they are athletic enough, they might play some WR. I think Carson Butler (photo above - he is now #5) could fit that bill. (RR has always said his offense is flexible enough to take advantage of his teams personnel). Carson is in good shape and ready for a break out year.
- What about other "need" positions for the Wolverines: Offensive Line: In Rich Rod's offense, Offensive Linemen need to be very athletic to get up and down the field and back to the line of scrimmage. This might be a good fit for a couple guys if they can add on some weight and get into a Barwis "change position" program. Defensive End - Michigan has had a problem recruiting this position with a lack of Midwest high school talent. As mentioned above many tight ends play Defense in High School. Most TE's have enough speed to play this position and they could see much more playing time if they adapt to a new role.
- There is always that pounding Fullback that RR loves and loves to throw to as well.
