Wolverine Wednesday: It's All About The Drake

I really don't want to talk about 2014 kids yet but it's mid June, Michigan's 2013 class only has a few more spots available and Michigan's camp full of 2014 prospects is underway.   So I really don't have a choice!

One of them more intriguing recruits in the 2014 class is Drake Harris from Grand Rapids.  Drake is a two sport star and a good one at that.  He is rated the #47 basketball player in the nation to Rivals and is expected to be a 4 star WR when those rankings come out.

Drake is a 6'4 180 pound shooting guard and already has offers from Michigan, MSU, ND, Indiana and Florida for basketball.  Yesterday, Brady Hoke offered Drake a football scholarship.  The problem is Drake is considered an MSU lean for basketball and almost committed to Tom Izzo but he decided to wait until his senior year to consider which sport was the best fit for him.   I'm sure all the schools that have offered him will allow him to play both sports.

"I might want to do both sports at the beginning, but right now it is kind of early and I don't know what I want to do," he said in May. "I've always liked basketball since I was little. I've been playing since the second grade, so it's always been my love, watching it growing up. The same with football, too. I've been playing football since I was seven. They are both great sports, and I love to play them."

Drake's dad likes both instate schools:  "I've always been a Michigan fan," Mike Harris said this spring. "It's kind of weird because I've been a Michigan fan my whole life, but then I started liking [MSU basketball coach Tom] Izzo. It's been Michigan because of the football tradition forever, and MSU because Magic Johnson was my favorite guy. He has always been my favorite player."

Drake is expected to go to Michigan State to play for Tom Izzo but an offer to play football for one of the greatest programs of all time is a pretty special honor.  Drake could be one of the best two sport athletes to come out of the State of Michigan since Drew Henson.
