Michigan Friday: Big Recruiting Weekend on Tap

This is the first big 2014 class recruiting weekend for the Wolverines.   Recruits will get a chance to spend time with coaches, watch film from SDSU, chat with academic advisors, take a tour of the campus and watch the #7 ranked basketball team take on Illinois.

Here is the run down:

  • Commit LB Michael Ferns: Will be looking to hand out a few T Shirts.

  • Commit QB Wilton Speight will be looking to recruit a few WR targets.

  • The Florida 3:  OL Mason Cole, WR's Artavis Scott and (2015) George Campbell.  Mason Cole could be on commit watch.

  • WR Drake Harris (soft commit to MSU) is also a highly rated basketball player and could play both sports at the school he picks.  Wilton has already been in Drake's ear.

  • LB Kyle Berger is 6'3 205 from Cleveland.  Ferns got Berger to visit.

  • DE Malik McDowell maybe the best player in Michigan.

  • RB Elijah Hood 5 star RB and coming to Ann Arbor for an early visit.

  • DE Lawrence Marshall committed and de-committed to OSU already.

  • 2015 prospects coming in also include 2015 DB Shaun Crawford and 2015 WR Brian Cole

The word is that Dennis Norfleet is heading back to offense and going to play a Vincent Smith type of 3rd down back role.  He might also spend some time at slot WR.   Greg Mattison wants to keep him on defense but it sounds like he prefers to play on the other side of the ball.

Here is a tip for Big Al:  Get him the ball in a number of different formations and see what he can do.   On a side note, I wonder what this says about our young CB's like Terry Richardson and Delonte Hollowell.

  • Illinois struggled with Penn State last night and got a 5 point win at home.  They travel to Ann Arbor to play the Wolverines on Sunday.  They are 7-7 in the Big Ten and have 20 total wins and will be looking for big win over the #7 Wolverines to help their NCAA resume.   Let's hope the Wolverines fixed some things during the week of practice.
