Wolverine Wednesday: Lands #3 in 2014

We will leave last night alone.  Nothing really to comment about.

Now on to the good news!   Michigan has landed it's 3rd player in the 2014 class and it's a guy they have been recruiting for about 14 months in DT Bryan Mone.

Bryan is a former teammate of current Wolverine FB Sione Houma from Salt Lake City and as a soon to be senior is 6'4 and 315 pounds.   Bryan is ranked 4 stars by all the recruiting services (ESPN 2014 rankings are not out yet) and outside the top 100 on all 3 services overall  (#111 scouts, 172 Rivals and 114 on 24/7).  His offer list includes Boise State, BYU, UCLA, Ole Miss, Utah, Washington, Oregon State and others.  He was getting interest from the likes of FSU, Bama, ND, Stanford, Nebraska and others.   It seems Michigan got in early and he  committed right before he was about to blow up on the recruiting trial.

His stats from the internet as a Jr. include: 70 tackles, 10 TFL and 3 sacks.

My guess is the Michigan coaches saw Bryan early and just loved his upside.  He went from 255 to over 300 pounds in a year and is now clearly a DT that can play inside.  I expect the Michigan coaches to take one more DT in the 2014 class.   WR continues to be the top position group that needs to be filled.

  • Rivals 250 came out and Michigan's new QB commit Wilton Speight was not in the top 250.  One reason is that Wilton re-classified for the 2014 class after he left with an injury early in his 2013 campaign.   I expect many of the services hope to see him at camps and combines this summer before they rank him.   He is not ranked on Scouts either.
