Michigan Monday: One More DB and 3 New Scholarships

Brady Hoke and the Michigan coaches like to receive commitments in pairs.  It's just how they roll.   They continued that trend on Saturday when 2015 Huber Heights, Ohio Wayne defensive back Tyree Kinnel picked the Wolverines.  Tyree is a 4 star prospect to Scouts and 24/7 but a 3 star to ESPN.  Rivals has let to release their ratings (but they are due out soon and Damien Harris is expected to be a 5 star player).   He is 6'0 and 190 pounds and expected to be a Safety in Ann Arbor.

“I grew up a big Michigan fan and they were the first school to look at me in my freshman year. It was unreal getting the offer, growing up a fan I was a little overwhelmed,” he said. “But I thought, why wait? It’s the school I want, why worry about recruiting when I can get it over with and focus on my season.”

Tyree has started since he was a freshman but really started to make noise on the camp curcit this summer.  He also had a very good showing at OSU's Friday Night Lights event and was rated the #2 DB there behind Damon Webb.

This is another clear example of a kid being a Michigan fan and not waiting to jump on his offer.  He knows that this is a very small class and with Crawford's commitment on Friday he didn't want to lose his spot.   It's great to have another 4 star DB in the boat for the 2015 class and the way the Michigan coaches are going, they could have the entire 2015 class wrapped up before the 2014 signing day.

  • When Tom Brady addressed the Wolverines last week, he said the greatest honor he ever received playing football was being named a captain for the Michigan Wolverines.  This weekend, Michigan named their captains for 2013 season: Senior offensive tackle Taylor Lewan, senior linebacker Cam Gordon, senior defensive back Courtney Avery and redshirt junior linebacker Jake Ryan.  Congrats to all the captains on this honor!

  • Speaking of honors:  3 walk-ons received their scholarships this past weekend as well:   Joe Reynolds, Joe Kerridge and Graham Glasgow.   All three players are expected to see significant snaps this season.

  • LB Mike McCray had to change his number from 9 to 3.  Usually they do that because they plan for him to be on special teams and the other #9 Drew Dileo might be returning punts.

  • Can you believe it's game week?  Official depth chart will be out tomorrow.

  • Da'Shawn Hand's HS Football Staff just added one new assistant coach.  His name is Presecott Burgess who also was coached by Greg Mattison when they both were at the Ravens.

  • Wolverines in the NFL:  Stevie Brown out for the year with an ACL after his best year as a pro in 2012/2013 season (In a strange twist Ryan Mundy is expected to be his back-up) and Junior Hemingway caught a TD pass for KC this weekend.
