Wolverine Wednesday: Just Waiting For Thursday Night

Michigan is still a day away from starting it's NCAA run.  So things are pretty quiet on the news front.   Here are a couple things you might find interesting.

  • The Michigan QB's are wearing "Maize" jerseys this spring to show they can't be hit.

  • Here is a very good article on John Beilein , on how he prepares for the NCAA Tournament and how hard it is to defend Michigan on a short turnaround.
In a tournament setting, Beilein likes to watch the opponent in person for five minutes -- VCU played after Michigan on the same court -- so when he studies film he has a better feel for the team. Then he brings in his assistants, who he says are terrific at scouting opponents, to gather more information before putting together the game plan. Beilein believed Havoc stemmed from the early Rick Pitino and Billy Donovan presses. "There's a lineage of coaching you sort of follow," he said

  • Auburn hires Bruce Pearl.  If you remember, Michigan was the last team he faced as Tennessee head coach before he got fired.  Michigan beat them by 30 in the first round of the tournament in 2011.  Bruce was fired and given a 3 year "show penalty" by the NCAA for lying about hosting Ohio State guard Aaron Craft at his home for a BBQ.  That 3 year penalty ends this August.

  • Mario signed a one year contract with the NY Giants.  Let's hope he is healthy again
