Michigan Tuesday: Former Wolverines NFL Free Agent Updates

The UP

Brandon Graham:  This deal surprised me, I thought BG was considered a decent player in Philly but not a big money guy.   BG is going back to Philly for 4 years for $26M with $14M of that guaranteed.  That is a big money deal and I couldn't be happier for him.

David Harris - re-signed with the Jets last week.  David has become a really good NFL player!

The DOWN

Jake Long got cut by the Rams in a salary cap move.   I think Jake will be out of work for a couple of days and could even come back to the Rams for a smaller number.

Steve Schilling will not be offered a new contract by the Seahawks.  This doesn't mean they won't offer him one down the line, but as of right now Steve can look at other opportunities.

TBD

Alan Branch - My guess is he will sign a contract with the Patriots.  He would be smart not to chase money and stay with the Patriots if that is an option.

Stevie Brown - Ended up being a good pro.  He has been with the Giants and will be a solid edition to any team.

Jonathan Goodwin - Former Saint looking for a new team.

Jason Avant - Was with a couple teams last season, could be considering retirement.

Jay Feely - Was with the Bears for 5 minutes, might be heading to retirement as well.

Tim Jamison - With the Texans had 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks

LaMar Woody - Recently cut by the Raiders - Is retirement an option?

Larry Foote - Played last year for the Cardinals, always seems to earn a spot on a roster.

  • I got a few emails regarding yesterday's post that when Bo was coaching football and Johnny Orr was coaching the basketball team, Michigan had two top tier coaches.   I think that is a great call out, my only question is:  Was the late Johnny Orr considered a top 15-20 NCAA Basketball coach back then?   So I decided to do some research:
- He was 209-113 at Michigan, taking the Wolverines to the 1976 NC game.

- When he left Michigan for Iowa State in 1980, he was offered the largest salary of any basketball coach at the time:  $45,000, he was making $33,600 at Michigan.

- He won 76% of his home games at Iowa State

-He took Iowa state to 6 NCAA Tournament in 14 years

Yes, I agree Bo and Johnny were the closest we have had to Jimmy and Coach B.   Well done BHB Readers!!!
