Wolverine Wednesday: More Basketball Departures

Like I mentioned yesterday, whoever Michigan hires as their next head basketball coach will have to rebuild this entire roster and I expect Michigan fans welcome that rebuild.   Tarris Reed and Yo Yo are the latest two to the portal.  The new coach is going to have a blank canvas and the promise of playing time for portal players.  Tarris averaged 26.5 minutes a game and 9 points.  Youssef Khayat under 6 minutes and 1.4 points a game.

I heard yesterday that there are about 4000 D1 Basketball Players.  Over 2000 are expected to be in the portal.  There will be a ton of players to pick from.
  • The rumor has been confirmed former Raven Pernell McPhee will be on Sherrone's staff
  • Harbaugh had a garage sale over the weekend.
  • Former Alabama 5 star OT Kadyn Proctor who transferred to Iowa, spent a couple months in Iowa and now is back in the transfer portal before Spring Practice starts.
  • ESPN has extended their deal to broadcast the CFP
  • Clemson has joined FSU's lawsuit on getting out of the ACC
  • OSU Pro Day is today, Marvin Harrison Jr. will not participate. No combine, no Pro Day.

comment on old news: If Michigan keeps Scruggs, the chances are small ....
but if he runs over a little kid on the street after one of his binges > Michigan would face a lawsuit of gigantic proportions (50 million). For keeping a known drunk under employment, Mich would lose that trial if the jury is peppered with MILF's that had families of lit-Lins.

Understand the concerns about Scruggs. FWIW, also think it's useful (esp in the age) to give someone a chance to fix themselves. We seem to have a very disposable society - canceling for all and every reason.

Just my very uninformed opinion on the Scruggs situation. He could be a horrible guy, but maybe not either.

That said, I am very OK with canceling bucknut boy... :)

In regards to Scruggs. Three occasions of alcohol related driving arrests.
You can't fix stupid.....It's a gift.

Scotty,

so you're tell me if I get arrested for drunk driving and hurt someone my employer would be liable? that makes no sense unless I did it at a company event and my employer was aware and did nothing to prevent me from getting behind the wheel. If an employee is a bonehead and does something stupid it doesn't mean the employer is liable. Now if an employee does something that embarrasses they organization, sure the organization can fire that employee, but it be a stretch for someone to sue the organization based on actions done while the employee is on their own personal time.

Chowman: A lawyer is much more capable than me to answer your question. Me thinks that if a mother lost a kid to this drunken sailor, I am sure she would find a lawyer that would handle the case.... Myself, I would argue that U of M knowingly hired a drunk and brought him to Ann Arbor where the threat to children should have taken priority The jury awards 55 million to Mrs. Plaintiff. Case closed.

Not sure what law school you went to but employers aren’t on the hook for the personal lives of their staff. If Scruggs were driving a UM car, or maybe in a coaching capacity like a recruiting trip then the school might be liable. But driving home after a Saturday night bender, no….not the school’s fault. Hell, think of how many employers would have to jettison their staff if that precedent were set.

Scotty, not saying they won't try and sue. We live in a litigious society and lawyers typically apply the shotgun approach when it comes to entities with deep pockets. That all being said, they would have to show Michigan exercised gross negligence. But the point is moot now, Scruggs just resigned!
