If you read this blog regularly you know how I feel about bowl games, they are the 8-track tapes or travel agents of college football. With the 12 team college football playoff system they are at best the NIT tournament.
With the transfer portal and players opting out for the NFL. It leaves two types of players for bowl games. 1. Loyal players to the program and 2. backups that want their 15 minutes. I was shocked when I heard Jalen Milrose was playing, he hasn't made a decision on the NFL yet but must have a bad taste in his mouth the last time he saw the Maize and Blue. Of course, Davis Warren is also playing. I sort of wish he had the Ohio State win to ride off in the sunset with.
On the other hand, Alabama has had 13 transfers leave (2 to Ann Arbor) and Michigan's available RB's have produced a total of 64 yards of offense this year on 21 carries. Michigan has 3 available WR's that have scored 3 total TD's this season. If you thought Michigan was short handed on offense this season, your going to love this game.
Dear Sherrone,
You my friend finished the year on a heater. Beating Ohio State in Columbus and landing Bryce Underwood is some serious work. Your hire of Chip as the OC might be a good call, we will have to wait and see. You know how I feel about Wink, but with the Ohio State win he gets a pass for at least another year. Still dude, he way under preformed with some elite talent.
Now to this exhibition. I really don't have any advice for you. All your star players are working on preparing for the NFL Draft. Must be great to see Bryce in a Michigan uniform throwing around the rock. Still the goal on Tuesday will to be to not embarrass the program. Bama is a 2 TD favorite and neither team wants to be here. Clowney makes one hit in this game and has made Millions off of it for what turned out to be a disappointing NFL career.
This letter is all about advice, so here it goes:
- Get the young guys experience
Get Cole Cabana some touches- Get home with the fewest amount of injuries possible
- (Who is going to Punt?)
Give us a glimpse of next year's talent, hopefully both teams will be healthy after the game and get back to Ann Arbor so you can plan for next year. The value for Michigan Football on this trip was getting the new enrollees some practice, letting the current freshman see the field, and team bonding. Ask the officials for a running clock, so you get back to Ann Arbor for New Years Eve.
Play Michigan Football!

Not fair blaming Wink for this year when the offense is one of the worst in the league and worst in Michigan history. When your offense continually gives the ball back to the other team, and your defense has to be on the field for 45 minutes a game, it's going to wear on you. Other teams will game plan differently when they know your offense blows, is not a threat, and they will get the ball back. And if you look at points allowed, minus the Texas and Oregon games, Michigan's defense was solid.
The Michigan Defense allowed 17 points per game, omitting Texas and Oregon. Like I said, that was on a team with no offense and W.J. opting out in the middle of the season. It was also Wink's first year learning his team, which progressed, not declined, as the year went on. I'll take that.
So when I read people saying, "Winks not a good defensive coordinator", it needs to be asked, based on what? These are the same people that say "Jarrod Goff is not a good QB". Based on what?? Head scratcher. Numbers speak loud and clear.
Exhibition is right. I thought about going but between Alabama and Michigan they have over 50 players in the portal. Plus those that are prepping for the NFL. It will be nothing more than a high school scrimmage.
I personally like the bowl games. Gives the players that haven't played much some playing time, they go to a warm location and have some fun. And if they win the game they are truly excited. The college football playoffs are not really playoffs it's just a glorified tournament.
