Michigan Tuesday: CMU Gets a NOA Regarding Stalions

This is the story that never ends.  Now Central Michigan is involved and the NCAA are coming after them as they were not 100% forthcoming during the investigation.

Per the Freep: Per the NCAA's Division infractions dashboard, the Chippewas were served the NOA on June 27, which opened the 90-day window from that date for CMU to respond, which would be on or before Sept. 25. ...

According to the database, the investigation began on Oct. 31, 2023 − the day that pictures began circulating online showing a man, who appeared to be Stalions, wearing a disguise including facial hair, CMU coaches clothes and sunglasses that had a light in the corner of them, appearing to record something.

Four days later, on Nov. 3, there was a notice of inquiry. The process lasted for 387 days and was delayed multiple times after the party provided "false or misleading information" or due to "withholding requested materials by enforcement staff" until a review board met more than a year later on Nov. 21, 2024.

I guarantee the NCAA will try to tie that former CMU Head Coach Jim McElwain was on Michigan's staff for one year.   We already know from the Netflix documentary that Connor said he didn't recall or wasn't on the CMU sideline to the NCAA.  I just don't understand why he would even be there, couldn't he had been just as effective in the stands?

It continues to shock me how advanced scouting is such terrible thing.  In every sport at every level, scouting is very common.   Sign stealing is not illegal, only if your in person watching it.   The NCAA continues to waste money and becomes less relevant everyday.

  • 4-star QB Malachi Zeigler is close to a decision and has Michigan is his top 4.
  • RIP to Gregg Glenn III, former Michigan basketball forward, dies in tragic accident at age 22
  • 4-star CB Davon Benjamin will announce his commitment on Aug. 2, Michigan is in his top 4.
  • Transfer Justice Hayes is on the Maxwell Award Watch List, College Football Player of the Year

The only reason they made in-person sign stealing illegal is bc smaller programs complained that was too expensive to send people to so many games. So NCAA made that illegal like 30+ yrs ago. But you're correct, sign stealing is both legal and common. I think it's fair to say that prior to Conner, Michigan was pretty behind other programs in doing that.
