This is one of my favorite posts every year! The long off season is over and we are back to Michigan Football this Saturday. I wish it was a noon start but the program needs that TV money when they have to bankroll current and future Bryce's.
I thought Week 0 was a bit of a let down. The Ireland game had two ranked teams but the weather and the field played way too much of an impact on the game. That field looked like a high school field whose law mower is broken. The 2nd half was much better then the first. No sure I have ever seen a game without snow where you couldn't see any of the lines or field logos.
How is Alex Orji not on TV? If you wanted to watch UNLV struggle against Idaho State, you had to tune into the free stream which is the MT West Conference TV channel. Alex's first run he fumbled on the goal line for a touchback. He did do some good things during the game but the Virgina transfer looks to be the future starter this year.
Stanford @ Hawaii was all about Hawaii's QB playing on one leg and Andrew Luck looking like he wanted to put on a helmet from the coaches box and run down and save his team. Hawaii won on a last second field goal.
Kansas opened a new stadium against Fresno State, it was a blow out. Mikey Keene left the QB job to Kurt Warner's son. That was the most interesting thing from that game.
Way too early look at New Mexico:
Nickname: Lobos
2024 Season record: 5-7
Best Win: Washington State
Worst Loss: Montana State
New QB: Jack Layne from Idaho.
2024:
Pass yards: 230.7 (61st)
Run Yards: 253.6 (2nd)
Points Scored: 34 (27th)
Points Given Up: 38 (130th)
Was very surprised how much they ran the ball in the Mountain West last season, #2 in the country is a good run game. The team started slow with 4 loses in a row. They got better as the year went on with a win over WSU late in the year. Jake Layne played well in the FCS playoffs last year and he got the New Mexico gig. Like Michigan, they will look to run a more balanced offense in 2025.
- CBS Sports reports that Bryce is getting the start on Saturday night. Shocker! I hope we get an update on Mikey health in Sherrone's presser today. I'm very worried about the depth at this position.
- I'm also hoping there are no other camp injuries to report.
