Fix the Wolverines

This is my regular Tuesday feature on how to fix the Wolverines. As we all know, Michigan came back from a 10 point 4th quarter deficit to beat their instate rivals Michigan State Spartans.

What can be improved for the remaining 3 games (Wisc, OSU, Bowl game) of the year? Here are some thoughts.................

  • Carson Butler needs more touches. This guy is a huge weapon. He should be the perfect guy to throw to on first or second downs. He did have a good touchdown catch against MSU but we need him to have about 5-8 catches a game. I think MM will be doubled the next two weeks and he should be wide open.

  • Health is an issue on the team right now. Chad and Mike are no where near 100% and they have an early game in cold Madison on Saturday. The training staff needs to hire that guy from the Karate Kid , Mr. Miyagi to work some magic.

  • We have to find a way to stop the run. The defense played really well in the 1st half and got run over most of the second with pretty basic power football. Could it be that we have seen nothing but spread offenses this year and forgot how to stop the power run game? English and the boys need to work up something new for Wisconsin and OSU. Bennie will run wild if we give up that kind of yardage against OSU.

  • Mike Hart needs some more press for the Heisman, being out a couple of games doesn't help his chances, but he did get over 100 yards on one leg against MSU. Jake Long for Heisman isn't that far off if there isn't a front runner. Ok, it's a stretch but Jake maybe the best player in college football right now.

  • The Slow Starts - this time it didn't happen until the start of the second half but it looked like the Wolverines thought their lead was pretty large at 14-3. We need to continue to be aggressive on both sides of the ball the entire game.

  • Line Backer play as to get better. If Crable is just going to rush the QB we need the other guys to shoot the gaps and stop the running plays. We can't have our DB's making all the tackles. We have 3 solid LB recruits coming in next year.

  • Ryan, Ryan, Ryan. Love the upside dude, but hold on to the damn ball. I hope Chad gets a 100% of the snaps the next two games. But if he doesn't we need you to be ready and ready to hold on to the ball.

  • Brown and Minor didn't get a ton of touches against MSU. I don't believe Hart will be has healthy as he says on Saturday. We need you both to have big games.

  • Don't sleep on Wisconsin, they have nothing to lose and will pull out all the stops to get a win at home. They played OSU close for 3 quarters.
