Recuiting News and Notes

In a week where Michigan gained two commitments, IN LB Jordan Barnes and TX WR DeWayne Peace, Michigan still needs to address some needs at Defensive End and on the Offensive line. With most likely less then 20 spots open next year (Michigan took 25 last year and has 12 verbals this year, OSU has already 23 verbally committed for the class of 09), Michigan needs to focus on only elite skill players, Offensive Line, and Defensive Ends/Line.

What's the deal with Tate Forcier? (pictured above) Does Michigan really need 3: 4 and 5 star QB's in this class? With Kevin Newsome and The Beaver verbally committed to the Wolverines, Tate Forcier is still considering Michigan and has the Wolverines in his final/Top 10. He also attended Michigan's camp a couple of weeks ago. Maybe he is waiting to see if Kevin bails on his Michigan commitment before making a decision. The good news is he doesn't seem to be in a rush to make a decision. My best guess is that Michigan takes two QB's either Newsome or Forcier and The Beaver. Here is Matt Hayes from the Sporting News take:

Rich Rodriguez continues to recruit quarterbacks to Michigan despite oral commitments from two of the nation's top dual-threat players: Kevin Newsome and Shavodrick Beaver. Dual-threat stars Tate Forcier and Eugene Smith have Michigan high on their lists. If incoming freshman QB Justin Feagin doesn't win the job this fall or struggles to pick up the system, Rodriguez will sign three quarterbacks in February. . .
  • Michigan loses a punter to NC State. I can't believe we are losing top rated punters to the ACC! Ok, just a little over reaction on a slow news day for the Wolverines. Chris Ward a punter who averaged 41 yards last year picked NC State over Michigan and others yesterday.

  • Craig Roh a 4 star Scottsdale DE visits Ann Arbor during his family vacation to Northern Michigan.
