Under RR, it seemed Michigan had a defensive back curse. Players were getting hurt in practice, during games, going to the NFL before they were ready, transferring or not even making it to campus. What could go wrong in the defensive backfield depth did and Michigan had to play freshman and even converted a running back and a wide receiver.
An Mgoblog user gave us this image to remember all the fallen DB's:
A similar situation happened at Purdue where many of their offensive weapons continue to go down with ACL's injuries. Even the basketball team was effected with the multiple ACL injuries to Robbie Hummel. This ACL curse caused someone at Purdue to create "Perry" a new mascot for the Boilermakers. I prefer Perry to that big drum or train whistle.
Now there is another curse in the Big Ten and this time it's pointed at the Iowa Hawkeyes running backs. The best way to phrase this is from a recent ESPN article: Iowa's leading rusher from 2011, Marcus Coker, transferred in the offseason to Stony Brook and his backup, Mika'il McCall, also left the program this winter. Potential successor Jordan Canzeri tore his ACL in March and is out for the season.
Iowa's top RB recruit Greg Garmon who is expected to be on campus this week to start summer conditioning to take over the RB role next season, was just arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and driving without a registration. Time for a new mascot image!
